CJ what do you think OCD is? it's an obsessive compulsive disorder, and can manifest itself in anyway including needing to capitalise every word, it is something you have no control over. But on the other hand it could just be being picky.

Hey man just trying to gather some information on the 328i e46 on some compatibility for turbo components and other engine bits.
@MrJesse1587 жыл бұрын
Why did you delete the vanos?
@AzureCrux7 жыл бұрын
Cost of tuning, reliability. Variable valve timing requires tuning the VANOS system, and that means more dyno time to gain little more than bringing boost in a few hundred RPMs. Deleting vanos means static timing and predictable tuning
@AzureCrux7 жыл бұрын
I guess to further elaborate... It's great to have if this was a street car. You'd be able to dial the torque band back and would make low RPM, around town driving much more pleasant. Since this is a track car, he doesn't need to tailor the car around different driving habits. The vehicle is meant to spend a good deal of time near the limiter, and having an electronically controlled hydraulic system fail at high RPM is an easy way to break some valves.

Bob Sagit well this but VVT isn't designed for the stress of racing anyway. I'm a big BMW guy and I dislike vanos if I'm putting forced induction into the whip. For this reason I'm putting a M50 in my E30 (mostly because I got it got next to nothing)

As someone who is looking at options as to how to go about to build a m52/m54 conversion track car..not drift but track car...why not go with the n54 84mm DIA already built for turbo application piston/connecting rods? Cost? No need given the boost you plan on running? Just curious...thank you.
@drewdavis2392 жыл бұрын
N54 rods are 144mm. Same as a m54 b25 (2.5 ) but tge 2.5 m54 has a cast crank and lighter rods. The m54/ m52 has 135mm rods.

Why do you even delete your vanos ? You can get more torque across the board with it after tuning the maps for it.
@sw967 жыл бұрын
Several reasons I'd imagine, 1) He doesn't have to tune for it now. 2) It's a drift car, it'll be driven mostly at the top end of the rev range where vanos wouldn't be giving him much extra, especially considering the car's turbo'd. 3) Vanos seems to have a reputation for unreliability, I don't know how deserved the reputation is but this way there's one less thing that can go wrong.
@msengineeringdavid37027 жыл бұрын
He just was tuned, and BMW uses VANOS in almost all their engines currently, camphasing gives a lot of torque under the curve, so I'm not sure what you're saying here. He must not have an after market ECU that supports active cams.
