2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 Toyota Camry 2.4L inline 4 cylinder.
My wife's 2004 Toyota Camry. Replaced the ignition coil pack on #4 cylinder because it was causing a misfire. The car was running rough and struggling to accelerate. I also replaced the spark plugs because I felt it needed it. Besides, I want to see how long Bosch spark plugs would last.

What a good husband he is! My 2016 Toyota Camry acted up again early this morning after I dropped my girls off at school. It was really busy on the roads at 8:05 a.m. Car was fine and then all of a sudden I try to accelerate some after just leave I got a stop light, headed for on-ramp to interstate and my car would not go above 25 mph and it was revving very loudly. It has done this 9-10 times over the last year. And I wanted to catch it on video super fast for my husband to see and hear so I hit video on my phone. Traffic was everywhere and I was almost to ramp and there was nowhere to pull over until I got on ramp. Line of cars behind me wanting to accelerate to get on interstate but my car wouldnt let me. I continued to video so he could see the speedometer and hear how loud my car was revving but I knew what to do to fix the issue just from previous times my car doing this. I pulled right over and put my car in park and then back in drive and got back on the road as soon as all cars passed and the issue was fixed. I later sent my husband the video once I had parked at the store I was headed to. My husband got mad and told me I was going to blow my car up getting the rpm’s so high. Lol. Like I can help what my car is doing!? Like I could help there was traffic all around me with nowhere for me to pull over. The entire thing lasted 30 seconds tops. I also pulled over as soon as there was an open space when I hit the ramp. He was cussing and mad as a hornet at me. Ive told him five times my car has been doing this every blue moon for close to a year now(maybe 8 months or so actually). So I told him forget it and from now on I won’t bother telling him squat! I have a fabulous husband in so many ways but every time something like this happens, it’s MY fault. How?! It’d be nice if my husband had responded the way this husband in the video responded. Of course, my husband is traveling for work a lot and he is 7 hours Away so it isnt like he could rush to me and I’m used to dealing with stuff myself anyway but I just thought I’d let him know. What a jerk!

I was leary about aftermarket coil packs when a Toyota service tech advised me not to use them because the resistance he measured was higher than the 14 year old original Toyota coils. Glad to see your experience with the aftermarkets was good.

I recently helped the Mother in Law with her 08 Avalon with similar issues. Turned out she had a bad #3 coil which it’s towards the firewall. I had to remove the intake manifold for access. Car has over 250k and recommended to install new spark plugs and coils since it was going to be disassembled. She’s on a fix income so I bought the plugs and one coil. She wanted to pay me, I told her nonsense, we are family. But, I did request her famous fresh coconut cake as my payment 😃 Glad you’re okay Angel, keep the family safe including all your KZbin fans out there, keep safe as well 👍

I don't know how you do it day in and day out. I changed out two rear bearings with my son, 14 yro, and I was so sore the next day from bending over and beating on that stupid rusted bearing/hub assembly. Much respect! 🤙

here is my story about my car that had a very very strange problem i think it is important to learn about it since you are a mechanic it might help you later as it did to me. *my car stopped working and coudnt start anymore* , it was cranking fine. i checked the compression it was great and injected propane and starter fluid into the intake it woudnt start. i then removed the coil pack and EIM (one piece) in order to see the sparks discharging i hooked up the sparks plug with copper wire and everything worked fine, i saw the sparks working. at that point i disassembled the engine thinking it was a timing issue. long story short *it turned out to be the dedicated ground wire for the Electronic Ignition Module* on the coil pack that rusted and broke beneat the engine . i also learn that the computer calculate compression on each cylinders by measuring the resistance and current waveform from the coil pack firing and it send the information to the main computer. they added a dedicated ground wire to the EIM and when it broke the computer coudnt make his black magic work anymore and the car woudnt start. my car is a 2003 cavalier and i had no code except a evap thing (leaking gas cap).

Love your videos, watch em even though I already know how to change my own spark plugs/ignition coils etc. Watching these videos is what taught me! Changed the plugs on my old 2001 Camry (V6) - with the intake manifold/plenum in the way and all, what a pain in the ass lol, 4 Cylinder looks way more convenient for that. Was a good car but I'm glad I have something more fun now. RWD + V8 all day!

I had my #3 coil go bad on my way to work, I pulled over and pulled the plugs on the coils to see if there was a difference, then called an Uber to an Autozone for the coil, Ubered back to my car on the side of the highway and swapped it. Definitely was not expecting that but at least it's an easy fix!

What I usually do is disconnect each spark plug boot and see which one didn’t effect the motor while it’s running. The one that didn’t effect motor running, check the spark plug and boot/wire. If it looks fine, ground a screw driving and put the spark boot near the screw driver and see if a spark comes out of the boot end. If it doesn’t then the coil is bad.

Great Video. Sweet ending. But my OCD is kicking in on the Coin Spark Gap Tool @9:27 being used on Iridium Spark Plugs. I'm sure your careful not to touch the center ELECTRODE with it. A Wire GAP tool would have been safer.

You could save some money not using tow truck. I drove approx 200 miles home on 3 cylinders due to bad coil pack. It's hard, but I can't think of any damage was made to the engine. Sold it few years later and it was quite OK not showing any signs of malfunction.

I inherited a 2004 350z and the coil packs started to go bad at 58k miles. After the third coil pack went bad at 61k miles, I just replaced the rest of the old coil packs and I haven’t had any misfires since then. BTW, I replaced my original coil packs with Hitachi coil packs from Rockauto.

I have always used Bosch Platinum or Iridium as OE replacement. You don’t need to gap them and you don’t apply anti-seize. 👌

Had this happen to my '02 recently. 320k miles on it. If you haven't replaced the others, I would recommend getting a 4 pack online and just replacing them all. A second one failed on Mine about a half year later and I had more time, so it was like 85$ for the pack instead of like the first time was 90$ for one.

Hafa Adai!! Awesome video Angel. I4, easy the coil packs are on top. We have a 3.5 V6 in my wife's 05 Avalon and same issues like yours but a P0301. I had to remove the air surge tank to get to cylinder #1 and switch the coil pack with cylinder #2. It was the pack so I replaced it with a Denso pack from Rock Auto.

Awesome vid man and no I did not think of blowing spark well before removing plugs...lol! But I did think it’s a good idea to also add die electric grease to boots to prevent arcing, probably why is misfiring boot is burnt from arcs. Glad to see in the end a safe and healthy recovery....and yes we are all Guamians in Guam the pure Chamorro bloodline is lost BUT never forgotten...peace out and keep up the vids. Love watchin

Love the vids !!!! to your viewers your I radium spark plugs are pre gaped .... so no need to gap them due to the point can easily break or bend just fyi and I would recommend Autozone parts due to there lifetime warranty no hassle .... and another FYI if the part you bought at Autozone doesn’t work it could be that it was re stocked as a good part instead of damaging out the part due to the inexperience of the employees ...
