I appreciate your emphasis on the tools being a means to an end, and the important thing being our creative output. I started learning beat making back in the Sony Acid Pro era (5.0). Then, I transitioned over to Reason for a time. But I had a realization that my output was better away from the computer entirely. Now, I use a Roland MC-707 for composition, arrangement, and gain staging, then do a 2-track out to my trusty field recorder (Tascam DR-05X). Whatever process gels with you as an individual is the right process. DAW of choice, dedicated hardware workstation, and so on.

Having used different DAWs in my time, FL Studio will remain as my main DAW, as someone who uses a lot of the "things" that make FL's workflow "unique" as my bread & butter methods i.e.(peak controller, mixer link automation, envelope controller, patcher, pianoroll "limit" tool especially it's basically the 'autotune' of chords lol, automation clip system, keyboard controller...) there's simply no replacing it. The secret for me has always been to try to make different genres of music every now and then, that forces you use your DAW differently then how you're used to doing it regularly, that's one of the ways I discovered some of these "weird" tools that are available in FL that many people don't seem to know about or use.
@leinexkeith291 Жыл бұрын
These people know nothing about FL STUDIO. They only know basic stuff. Piano roll alone has tons of magnificent & unique features. It doesn't end there, there are many others even in arrangement & plugins. There's great integrated linkage between them. Patcher alone also is huge enough to stand for FL STUDIO. People must use whatever they want but they must say no to conspiracy theories

Great point about the "clicking in every note" workflow in FL Studio vs the "playing your keyboard" workflow in Logic - THIS is a major reason why I'm considering switching to Logic after 21 years in FL Studio. I feel like my workflow has been stagnant and more mental/theory based and I want to play more, utilize my MIDI keyboard more, etc. So interesting that you say Logic lends itself more toward the latter, which I'm hoping it helps bring more life to my tracks.

It's worth noting that you can use FL Studio as a plugin in any other DAW. I use Cubase for recording and anything audio and mixing but i use fl studio for MIDI. I learnt on cubase wayback on version 3 and used that exclusively until i switched to Ableton for a while. Then i figured out that a lot of workflow issues and things i didn't like could be fixed by combining FL Studios excellent piano roll and beat making workflow with Cubase's Audio, Routing and mixer.

Man you worded everything precisely how i felt using logic. Originally i started with GB so you can kinda say i started with logic, but im fully delighted within fl studio for years. Recently i purached logic pro, and it felt like going back to your roots while living in another country. The points you're making like the clicking in fl studio is very true, i noticed myself touching more knobs in logic than drawing things, even when i dont have the keyboard, instead of drawing notes in PR i usually first use the build-in key board from logic and play around, something you would not see me doing in fl, unless i really want to have that sound i have in my head, have it captured before i 4get. My workflow also changed, that feeling of being stuck is less common, when i come back to fl i feel more like i know what i wanna do, and then i also realise how crap fl's stock plugins are (VSTs are still fire tough) I also finish tracks more often than having dozens of unfinished beats in fl. Also in fl it felt indeed like i was in a sort some of loop lol but thats only when i switched to logic that i realised that lol Ofcourse there're things i prefer more in fl its also more user-friendly and straightforward sometimes if i need things done quick and i cant achieve the thing i want in logic, transfer the sample to fl and it gets done, i still use both daws to create music but am leaning more into my roots. Besides its also good for film scoring. Im not yet ready to sweat my butt of in protools

I've used the Korg triton, mpc, cubase, nuendo, studio one, reaper, acid, Ableton, koala sampler on my phone, and many others, but NOTHING, and I mean nothing is as powerful or as intuitive as fl studio. That’s my character after 20 years of beat making and producing I’m finally so dam happy not thinking like “shit I need this and that to do what I want to do”. Believe me I was stuck thinking I don’t have the right equipment. Then one day I met some real OGs, I’m thinking “shit I’m done”… they asked me what I’m doing and why I’m running around the block. Told them I was looking for a studio and my man “Double Dose” was already waiting. The situation become one I’ll never forget. The suddenly hugged me fist bumped and stuff. They knew Double Dose and knew he was working on some music. They brought me to the studio and asked if they could have a listen. When my beat tape stared and Double Dose skipped through them they just became silent and looked me like “What the fuck !” And started calling me WhiteNigger. They liked them. And the real interesting part of course was: which beats are the hitters? I tell you it was 70% FL and 30% the 3k. Double Dose later explained me that they were jealous because of course they were repping as well but didn’t had the right beats. ( we talking hood tech aight } If you like tattooing and Looking for one that’s for ever : It’s not the machine - you kicked it I know you can jungle around with this but you catch my point. I’m tired if “the talk”! Real passionates don’t talk about that - they’re make music. The Mpc 3000 reached my about the importance of work flow and using what’s there. Sold if last year cause if coronavirus. Even if I wasn’t t using it like for real no more, it was. Ice standing in the corner. Pece

For me I would say Fl Studio is for beat making. Logic Pro is for recording, mixing and mastering.

Studio One is a gamer changer! But……lemme put this out there. With the latest FL version, if they add a more solidified “recording” layout like Studio One or Logic, GAME OVER!!!!

Logic is better as it’s made by apple and only available on their own platforms and can work with your computer to get the best out of your Audio like the fact I can start a song on my iPad on Garageband and now Logic Pro for iPad and finish it on my desktop Mac or my MacBook Pro using Logic Pro X it’s seamless integration is 2nd to none or I can use my iPad to control the mix when I am not around my 27” touchscreen monitor or when I am not in the room

So Fl Studio I’ve been using for the past year. It’s a pain to learn! It’s become a breeze for me to record vocals and use plug ins and set them up. I love the breeze of Fl studio where you can save your own mixer presets. Saves plenty of time. The reason I’m considering logic is because I’m horrible at producing and haven’t been able to learn at all. I have more fun trying to learn the piano on GarageBand. Maybe I should use both!

Logic’s overall quality is unparalleled. The threshold when you master is better. You have to push harder to distort.

I started to make Beats on Soundtrap and once I realized that FL has a Trial Version, I instantly switched to FL. It was pretty confusing at first, because it was so different to Soundtrap, but I eventually got the hang of it. I'm still far from good, but I'm better than at the beginning 😅

Writing songs in FL is an absolute nightmare : mapping controls is probably the worst : patterns are as well a nightmare : as the composition grows larger ..... but like you said FL becomes not enough after a while ..... I simply cannot stand the pattern workflow Cheers 🥂

What I've done : I chose Maschine, learned well : and ditched everything else: and now I have peace ✌ because everything gets done in Maschine software + fantastic JAM controller ... Any software is all about accessibility to the interface and the plugins you use to expand or extend the variety of VSTs, like Kontakt, Nexus, Omnisphere, and more. I hardly use FL's basic sounds anymore; at least, that's my view. All software has its strengths and never defines your professionalism. they all use VSTs or something like

i will say that, as of february 2024, FL Studio might run on macos- but it's a huge headache to run and very unpredictable. I've been using FL since FL 9... and FL 21 on mac has that 2012 era stability😂 been eyeballing Logic but i primarily use ableton on my mac and fl on my pc

What i can say is that, FL studio is for beginners, it's something that can easily give you a core base of audio production. When it comes to real music industry, FL is only good at EDM. If you're not an edm producer, then you rather opt for other DAWs like ProTools, Abreton and Logic pro.
