To be honest I liked the part when Johnny Cage died. People hate that part but honestly the way it was executed was so dark and brutal that it could've been the setup for an awesome movie. It makes Shao Kahn feel intimidating and it creates this atmosphere that the conflict of the movie is way more serious than the previous one. Liu Kang and Sonya basically have to avenge their fallen comrade, it creates buildup to the battle between Liu Kang and Shao Kahn. I dunno I always liked movies/stories that will go pedal to the metal and show that "death is allowed", like the combat here is real. It's not just the bad guys that can die but the good guys too. It added tension because the thing with the first movie is that none of the "good characters" died. You have Mortal Kombat where the whole theme is "death", and you kinda cheapen it if you keep it too lighthearted by having nothing bad happen to any of your characters, so they chose to make it darker and also show the "intimidatingness" of Shao Kahn and the invasion of earthrealm Pretty much Johnny Cage dying was one of the only good parts of the movie imo. It's not that I "hate" in Johnny Cage but like bro this could've been a badass movie. We should be more pissed off that the movie was so terrible so the decision to kill him off became a waste

I like this movie. It was my favorite MK movie growing up, because it had a lot of characters, and they were all very well depicted for the time. I grew up through the Genesis and SNES era, Gaming Magazines and Cartridges for Rent were still a thing, so any live-action adaptation were a reason to celebrate. Good ol' times. 😢
