If you wanted to mount it the "traditional way", the screw tightener of the Gobo head should go on the arm, leaving the Gobo head to spin around. If you look at the Matthews catalog you'll see how the traditional setup is, well, setup. But really, having the arm and Gobo head as separate components allows you greater flexibility in solving your needs. Also, Kupo makes a Grip Arm Support that you use in conjunction with a 4-way clamp that will secure the Grip Arm when extended. I find it very helpful when using the Grip Arm to hold an overhead camera to keep it stable and prevent bounce. And, of course, don't forget to sandbag your C-stand and keep the highest leg pointed towards the load and your Gobo Head knob always to the right!

Nice - didn't realize Adorama made their own branded c-stands. I have a handful of the Matthews c+ stand with the turtle base and I LOVE them - don't love the PRICE of them but once you use a real c-stand it makes everything else seem like a joke. Very likely they will stock C-stands from Kupo because that brand is from South Korea. But, even if they do not stock Kupo, I am sure they will have professional grade equipment. If you do not know a film/ television equipment house, find people who are in film or television production and ask them where they get their equipment. And, you might make some new friends! Every c stand made that is a real legitimate manufacturer are made of steel. This is for longevity when On set you can abuse them for years. Every aluminum stand made will wear and break down as the metal is not close To as durable as steel. Steel is real and working on larger productions around the world the c stand Is one of the foundations of every set. The weight is a standard. Not light but worth there weight in gold. Always Make sure to sand bag the large leg. Always

I not a fan of that spring in the C Stand and I think that spring would not last a lifetime but rather wear out over time. I would go with a Matthew C Stand instead. It would cost me $156.

You have the arm set up on the wrong side. The arm needs to be on the right side to follow the right hand rule to the arm with self tighten under load. You don’t need the extra baby pin you can just use the side of the arm opposite the grip head

06:20 that's wrong setting up. The weight of the camera will loosen the gobo. Always put the weigh on opposite side and that will tighten the lock.
@Tom_YouTube_stole_my_handle3 жыл бұрын
That's a grip head, not a gobo. Also, lefty loosey, righty tighty, before there's an accident.

You keep calling the grip knuckles "gobos", thats not what they are. They are "grip knuckles" {just FYI....}

Not sure how this is supposed to be a review especially since you clearly didn't seem to have any prior experience with c stands never mind an in depth understanding or experience of using different brands to formulate a proper opinion. More importantly there's no mention of how to properly setup this type of stand to ensure SAFE operation and avoid accidents which is a serious concern IMO I seriously recommend anyone watching this / contemplating getting their first c stand to go find and watch videos by pro photographers who have been working with such stands for years showing you how to properly setup c stands. IMO this is absolutely vital before attempting to use one for the first time, otherwise you could be asking for trouble !

Your advice would be more useful if you describes what's wrong with the advice in the video.

@@oneeyedphotographer reviews should be done by competent individuals who know how to use equipment being reviewed and with more than enough experience of using the type of equipment being reviewed IMO and unfortunately this is clearly not the case here. Person isn't even sure if it's mounted correctly and is asking for peeps to put info in the comments if he got it wrong ... hmmm, this doesn't fill me with any confidence whatsoever; hence my not so positive critique

@@vickosis You critiqued the reviewer, I asked about the video.

@@oneeyedphotographer to say here is a product and it works should be a given, but if you are going to do a review then at least compare it against other similar products and how it fairs & pros/cons. Also if any product can cause accidents and damaged if used incorrectly I would hope for a section on safe usage with some appropriate demonstration if possible. Also saying I'm not sure if this is the correct way to mount something and asking for feedback on this in the reviews doesn't bode well, it lacks proper recearch. All in all I felt that I needed to say something and to advice anyone thinking of getting a C stand, especially for the first time, to do a bit more research and to look at other videos before rushing out and getting one. I have no issues recommend C stands in general, but I'd advise caution and would ask anyone to get to know them and how to use them first.

@@vickosis Thank you. Now the KZbinr has some advice to help make better videos in the future. For me personally, I was looking for general advice I could apply to a C stand I already own. For comparing, I have reservations. Posing the question "Which camera is best for you" is generally unhelpful. There maybe one or two camera systems best for a particular camera, for me for years that was Canon DSLRs, and that was because of particular lenses. Today I am now using those lenses on a mirrorless body of a different brand and I have lost nothing, and now I can make photos I could not before. Regarding C stands, for me it's too late to worry about quality, features. I need to know how to assemble it and use it safely. Videos addressing my needs are surprisingly scarce.
