Week 13 of pttd surgery and calcaneal osteostomy. My foot was terrible before. So swollen and pain all the time. Even when sitting. Tried orthotics, lots of stretching and trigger points. Cam walker. Crutches when it all got too much. Recovery is going well. I’m glad I finally had surgery. I didn’t realise how much this has affected my life for four years.

I have had PTTD for 15 years, special shoes as kid and orthotics for decades. At 50 pain was strong, Dr ordered an Arizona AFO molded boots to mid calf to wear morning to bed. Took ALL the pain away! If I overdo, feet ache/swell. I know my limits. It's a little ducky to walk on grass. No flexibility in braces. I'm 66 and pain free. Bought New Balance Nitrel sneakers with mesh on sides, a size bigger to accommodate. I am glad I can walk, could not walk without these AFO's!!! I'm on my 3 rd set of AFO's. Please have your Dr write script to take to Prosthetics office near you. They are casted to fit your feet perfectly.

I am developmentally flat-footed or have fallen arches. My arches are not fallen as much as for the individual you present; I'm usually referred to as flexibly flat-footed. I am relatively active person. I do a bit of jogging and a bit of drumming. I don't have pain or issues per se in my feet or ankles, but I have a right lower calf muscle hernia related to the pressure from the fallen arches. However, I've stretched my calf muscles so well over the years that I no longer have to wear a neoprene sleeve or need to ice it after I run... it doesn't hurt or give me any pain at this point. I have some knee valgus and also struggle with issues with my SI joint... the struggle just continues up the kinetic chain. I've 59 now, I've worn orthotics since my mid-twenties. I think the genesis of many of these issues is excessive pronation. Stopping foot abduction is relatively easy, but then there's just more pressure to evert the ankle and perhaps rotate the knee inward. The issue I'm currently frustrated with is stability on plantarflexion. So, calf raises... I believe I have sufficient strength per se, but my right ankle shakes. This instability is not helpful when I run, but when I do my drumming it's exceedingly difficult to build up any intuition about how my right foot and ankle are going to move. Particularly, not surprisingly, the more I plantarflex, or the more the heel goes up. It can often just seemingly 'wobble' unpredictably. I've seen several podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons over the years. It's my impression that many of them have less experience with surgery and prefer to stick to conservative treatments, like prescribing a new pair of foot orthotics. I think over the ankle orthotics are probably too restrictive for drumming, perhaps even for running. And some of these issues are not sufficiently responsive to physical therapeutic means, at least to perform certain activities to some sufficient degree of proficiency. What I believe I've had difficulty finding is a doctor with sufficient experience over the full range of treatments from conservative to surgery for these kinds of issues. I'm never going to be a world-class runner nor a 'world-class' drummer, so even if surgery is likely the only way to gain substantially more ankle stability, I understand how one might still not recommend that course. But if a doctor doesn't have sufficient experience over the full range of treatments he/she is not well-positioned to make that kind of assessment. How do I find a doctor who has substantial experience over the full range of treatments for issues of this nature?

Thank you so much for your answer ! The tendon does not hurt, but the foot is weak and hurts, due to this tendon. Since it has gotten much worse this last year I am afraid that in some more years I will not be able to use the foot. at all. Long walks, hiking have always been very important to me, that’s why I am considering surgery. Are there good resultat from such surgery, does it take long time to heal ?

oh god guys, just make the right exercises and movements, if u use orthopaedic insoles or even surgery without really really trying to do the right exercises over a really long period of time and if u're only trying to correct the symptoms and not especially the cause, then you cannot be helped ...
@DrPelto4 жыл бұрын
Exercises can help but for more severe cases is not enough to increase intrinsic muscles or the posterior tibial tendon.
@profie244 жыл бұрын
Of course there may be such cases. But how do u know for sure without trying exercises that this is not enough? So many many people have themselves operated on without really trying out exercises or changes in their lifestyle. I would convince my patience to do exactly that in the first place before recommending them a surgery.
