I had something similar happen about 15 tyrs ago at a low water bridge. 13 flathead in a few hours in the middle of the day after extremely high water. Assuming it was pre spawn. I've been back to that spot every year since at the same time, and it's never happened again. It was dam near a spiritual event!. Great video! I'm so glad you captured it.
@BackroadsAngling4 ай бұрын
Sounds like an epic experience. Spiritual is a good way to describe it. The flatheads completely disappeared after about 6-7 days at this spot. I'm thinking I will be lucky if I ever see them as piled up as they were during these days. I felt lucky to have gotten the experience. Thank you!

Ya it's a good point. I often find myself thinking what would it take to just fish instead of work. In a different life it would be a fun adventure! Thanks for watching. The biggest fish are coming in part 3!

Truly epic stuff! Nice flatheads, bite after bite! Great video and video series. Awesome meanmouth too! I've been catching a lot of small meanmouths in the river pond near there recently, more than I've ever caught before.

Thanks, it was one of those epic bites that I might never see again. The meanmouths are super cool fish. I might have to give the pond a dangle sometime.

As a buddy of mine said when I took him to my spillway spot years ago. Where's everybody at? Lol. That was after we had put 20 crappie in the cooler on our way to a 60 fish limit between us. No one else that early morning. If I lived where you are fishing that would be the only spot needed for your own catching hole. Love it❤

This has become quite the popular series. Those cats were so massive the mean mouth looked like a bait fish. Epic fights.

Ya, these videos took off more than expected. I might be sharing the fishing spot with couple hundred friends! Flathead cats are so cool. The color patterns, the huge mouth, their huge size. I might be ruined from fishing for other species for awhile because I got used to catching 10+ lb fish every time! Thank you!

@@shaartvader4830 I caught some of those this spring. There's usually about 1 week every year where they get really aggressive towards lures right before they spawn. They are pretty cool I agree.

@BackroadsAngling I've read that the blues below the shack tavern dam in CR are very distinct subspecies and a rare catch in the world as a whole. Minnesota fisheries website if I remember correctly

@@shaartvader4830 Yes, in general they are very rare. We are lucky to live in one of the only areas where they thrive. i haven't heard about the rare strain. I will have to read about it.

I'm convinced that at least at this spillway artificials work better than live bait. I see guys down there fishing live sunfish all the time but I rarely see them catch anything. The guys fishing swimbaits and flukes are pulling them out all the time. The big ones also like the artificial lures. I've caught a lot of 30+ and at least one 40+ on flukes. They like to get up in the rapids and chase the shad as they come off the spillway.

When was this? Loving your content. Water is so high right now and moving fast

It was a few weeks ago when the water was lower. The water is too high right now. The fish can still be caught but they've dispersed into different locations.
