In an NPR special on the production of this album, Fleetwood explained how he hit the accents on 2 and 4 on the early takes, which is standard for rock. The song wasn't going anywhere, so he tried it on 1 and 3, on the front of the beat. That raised the energy and sense of urgency, and set the palette for the rest of the song.

During the most famous part of Fleetwood Mac's history, they had three lead singers. Stevie Nicks, the guitarist Lindsay Buckingham & the keyboardist Christine McVie. All three of them had big hits. Hardly one of the guitar greats and a bit of a 'thrash merchant.' Strangely enough though you were correct to say that Fleetwood Mac had one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but it wasn't Lindsay Buckingham. Peter Green (RIP), their original guitarist is consistently voted into the higher reaches of 'best guitarist' polls when these polls crop up. Peter was the founder of the band and the writer of all their early hits, including "Black Magic Woman," which was later covered by Carlos Santana (the original version by Fleetwood Mac is much better).

THIS era of Fleetwood Mac did yes. Prior to Mick Fleetwood being the luckiest guy on earth to stumble upon Nicks & Buckingham together while looking for a replacement for Peter Green who established Fleetwood Mac & then lost his way in the world. For original Fleetwood Mac check out "man of the world" "Albatross" "the green manalishi" "need your love so bad" the latter song almost causing a fist fight between my dad & his best friend over what one particular line said. And they were both wrong. Lmao. "And I'm at an end" was the line.

It's been used for an Xfinity ad for their mobile app and also for an Izuzu ad. Fleetwood Mac's singers were Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham (guitarist/singing lead), Christine McVie (keyboardist). This song is about the personal strain of the band members at the time. Lindsey wrote this because he and Stevie had broken up and he needed to come to terms with that and a lot of pent up anger for her that had been going for years. Stevie was mad about the "the packing up/shacking up" line because that's not what was happening but Lindsey wouldn't change it. The entire album, Rumours, is the result of everybody breaking up. Mick Fleetwood's wife had been having an affair and they broke up. Christine and John McVie broke up after 8 years of marriage as well. They only talked about music and the band and through all the turmoil they made one of the best selling albums to date. They may not have been able to stand each other in various ways but they knew how to channel that into something amazing.

Stevie Nicks is singing background vocals on this along with Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, (they are known for their layered background vocal harmonies) Lindsey is singing lead vocals....the wonders of having a gazillion dollars to spend in the studio. Each of the singers in fleetwood mac do double duty....lead on the songs they wrote and background vocals on the songs the others wrote. Many times they are even heard singing background vocals on their own songs....multi-track recording and over-dubing made all that possible. Live versions of Fleetwood mac are typically a little thin when it comes to the background vocals because it's usually just two singing them.

Prior to joining Fleetwood Mac, Lindsay and Stevie did their own songs and had an album called, "Buckingham Nicks" in 1973 which was released on Polydor Records. She was 19 and he was 18. The cover shot is both of them topless which she didn't want to do. Mick Fleetwood, while evaluating recording studios, heard "Frozen Love" played back through studio monitors at Sound City by Keith Olsen. Fleetwood would go on to invite the duo to join his band, Fleetwood Mac, on New Year's Eve 1974. That's how good that album was. I have a copy from back then. Buckingham is a very underrated guitarist, partly because he’s essentially a song-driven guitarist in the vein of a Robbie Robertson, where it’s less about showing his chops and more about shaping the song as a whole. Ironically it seems to me that his more contemporary performances emphasize his skills more overtly, so I wonder if he’s been feeling under appreciated. Anyways, yes his style is unusual and he is able to achieve things that required two guitarists to replace when they fired him.

The crazy thing about how he plays that song live is that it's even more difficult to play than it looks. Neither part is very complex by itself, but getting both going at the same time is more than we mere mortals can achieve.

The dude your referring too is Lindsay Buckingham. He wrote this song in reply to Dreams that was written by Stevie Nicks. They were breaking up at that time and not on speaking terms, so they wrote songs to express their point of view. It was a very tough time in the bands history with Bassist John and Keyboard/Vocalist Christine were divorcing, Drummer Mick Fleetwood was also going through a divorce. The title of the album was Rumors and sold millions of copies as a result of putting their emotions to music. What makes Buckingham so unique is his pick less finger style known as a Travis Pick more commonly used in bluegrass on a banjo and allows him to play multiple parts at the same time and sounds like 2 guitars instead of one. When he left the band they needed 2 guitarist to replace him to get the same sound. He also produced their most success albums and the group struggled to hit the charts when he wasn't in the band. He is definitely the driving force behind their success, a fact that Nicks deeply resents him for. The current line up has guitarist/vocalist Neil Finn of Crowded House and guitarist Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and Heartbreakers replacing Buckingham.

The singer is guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, who wrote the song. Stevie and Christine are on backing vocals. This song is directed straight at Stevie Nicks, whom Lindsey messily broke up with during the recording of "Rumours". Stevie also wrote a song about the breakup, "Silver Springs", but that song was dropped from the album. So then they go out on tour to support the album, and Stevie has to sing back up every night on a song that calls her out. Talk about professionalism. And the drugs probably helped. So, maybe have a listen to "Silver Springs".

Great song though as musical structure and complexity goes the highlight of that was likely Big Love. The studio album's version pales in comparison to the arrangement he did for playing solo. If you play finger-style guitar it's not just a complete work-out harmonically and melodically at the same time, Buckingham does it while singing on top of it all.

The singers were Stevie Nick's Lyndsey Buckingham, and Christine McVie. Lyndsey also is the guitarist. Christine is on keyboards. Mick Fleetwood played drums and John McVie bass. Christine and John are divorced. Stevie and Lyndsey joined the band as a couple and then broke up. This song was written by Lyndsey. Stevie had to sing backing vocals while Lyndsey sang main vocals.

Fleetwood Mac have had more than one different configuration of members, but the most successful was when there were 5 members: Mick Fleetwood (Drums), John McVie (Bass guitar) were two of the founder members and from where the group got their name. Then there was John's wife Christine McVie (keyboard/vocals) (no longer his wife, they split but both stayed in the group). All of these are British. They then invited Americans Lindsey Buckingham (guitar/vocals) and Stevie Nicks (Vocals) (also partners at the time but not for long!!!) to join the group. It's Buckingham who sings on this, and who wrote it I believe. The vocals are shared among the 3 vocalists, depending on the song. A lot of their best songs are borne out of and about the romantic/emotional issues going on between the members, especially Buckingham/Nicks, whilst still somehow all remaining in the group.

Lyndsey Buckingham is a superb guitar player. He plays a lot of Travis style picking (very difficult to do well), and then uses his fingers like guitar picks for his heavy leads. He's probably not the best place to start on guitar.

One of the great things about Fleetwood Mac is they have three premier song writers in Stevie, Lindsey and Christie, but so often the drums and bass are front and center setting the theme. They all seem comfortable letting someone else shine.

Brad & Lex, always remember when you guys listen to any song from their Rumors album, it's directed at someone in the band. Nearly every song was about lovers fighting their battles with song lyrics! It's the 8th best-selling album of all time! It was so volatile that the only way they could speak to each other without getting into a screaming match was through song lyrics! By doing it that way, it let the other person know what the other wanted them to know without being interrupted or cut off. Brad, that dude you heard was the guitarist who also was her boyfriend at the time. There are three singers within this group. So, Brad and Lex sit back get some popcorn and listen to the whole album and try to see which song was written to who from who!

Fleetwood Mac has 3 lead singers…Stevie sings lead on most of the songs and back up vocals on the rest…Christine McVie sings lead a good majority of the other songs (songs like Everywhere and You Make Loving Fun), plays the keyboard, and does backing vocals…Lyndsey Buckingham who sung lead on this song (and other songs like The Chain and Big Love) he plays the guitar really well, and does backing vocals…Stevie and Lyndsey used to go out so a lot of their songs are about their relationship…This song was Lyndsey’s response to Stevie Nicks’ song Dreams (both songs are their breakup songs with each other)…On a Fleetwood Mac song even if they’re not singing the lead, you’re pretty much always hearing Stevie’s, Christine’s, or Lyndsey’s voices…Lyndsey was also in the We Are the World music video…

You guys really need to hear their song “Tusk.” Original/studio version first- then the live version from their reunion/concert- The concert called The Dance- both versions very different- and fantastic! The studio really shows the tribal chant with drums, etc.. In The Dance concert performance, they bring in an entire marching band..as they all just start entering the venue doors - Very impressive, so the video for the live is absolutely necessary-! Both versions are a musts- I’m sure it’s already been explained that Lindsay is singing lead here..and you can hear Stevie backing up on this one-

In August 1967, Fleetwood Mac made its live debut at the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival in England. Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer made up the group’s lineup at the festival......Fleetwood Mac’s name comes from the last names of the original drummer and bassist: Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. But neither of them suggested that name. Original guitarist and singer Peter Green came up with the name and Fleetwood later said it was an example of Green’s selflessness.

I think Fleetwood Mac had duel singers (female and male). They were a great band during the late '60s, '70s and '80s. Tons of good songs and videos. Different styles. Rock, folk/hippie rock, pop rock, artsy rock, dabbed in a little disco for a bit, etc.. Yall probably heard this song on commercials, movies like Casino and Forest Gump. radio, grocery stores, etc. Very popular group, yes Nicks has a great voice. Talented musicians on that group. They had some good solo albums, too during the '80s/'90s after their breakup.

Since Stevie wrote songs aimed at Lyndsey Buckingham, he wrote this song as an answer to hers. They were lovers and had a massive breakup during the taping of their best album Rumors. This song actually bumped one of Stevie’s that she wrote to deal with her heartbreak over their split called Silver Springs, another great song written by Stevie. I believe this one was the longest top ten hit they ever had also. And yes, Lyndsey Buckingham is one of the best guitarists ever though he gets little credit for it. I was privileged to see them on-stage in their reunion tour. They were, are and remain one of our generations greatest groups ever.

Stevie was the lead in the majority of their songs, but Lindsey Buckingham (who you hear here singing and he's the amazing lead guitar) has his songs that he sings ("Go Your Own Way" is probably his most famous, but there's also "Second Hand News" where you can hear Stevie a lot in this one, and "Don't Stop" is another well-known one of his. Christy McVee (the keyboard/pianist) has her songs as well, her most famous being "You Make Loving Fun" and there's "Daddy" and "Everywhere" and more. Her ex-husband, John McVee is bass guitar and the amazing drummer is Mick Fleetwood. I'm waiting for the movie about their whole history to come out at some point, because it's been quite a ride!

Just listened to your reaction, some quick infos for you concerning the different singers. Fleetwood Mac started in the late 1960s ... and they are still there! From the mid 1970s to the 1990s, they had mainly three lead singers: Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and (you heard him here) Lindsey Buckinham. They also wrote mostly texts and lyrics each for their on songs. There are some rare duets. I recently saw a guitar learning video for the Fleetwood Mac song "Looking out for love". Is that the guitar video Lex was talking about here? It is also by Lindsey Buckinham, and there i s a good live version here on youtube of that song, him singing and playing the guitar. And then there is the legendary live version of "Landslide", Stevie Nicks singing. I had known the band since the 1980s, but I really only started to enjoy their music some years ago, and again during Covid. So much beautifully arranged music to lighten up my days. I really do enjoy both your views and opinions here, thank you so much for doing them.

Whenever I hear this song I always think back to one particular time in my high-school days. This was back in the day when Rumors was still a new release from Fleetwood Mac. Me and two friends were driving down the highway, it was summer, the car windows were open and this song was blasting on the car stereo. Life was so much simpler then. It's a favorite memory of mine, and this is one of my favorite songs. One final thought - Lex mentioned this sounded like a movie song. I've long thought that this whole album could be turned into the sound track of a movie. I know there is a real life dramatic backstory to the making of Rumors, but I envision a coming of age film, set in summer where every song is part of the soundtrack.
