I've always enjoyed your films particularly of Alaska. Your trip up the west coast of Scotland is equally interesting. Just a point to note. The Cuillin, more specifically the Black Cuillin and the Red Cuillin are mountain ranges that contain various hills. The word Cuillin is normally used in the singular and it is pronounced " koolin". Thanks for great films.

I always hoped to visit places like this , but alas I fear it will never be. So , Thank you Tony and crew for this visit to the land of my ancestors (McClung) who left that place back in 1620's to come to America. For some reason it was very moving to me and I believe I know now why the mountains have called me to live amongst them in New Hampshire . Maybe my ancestors dreamed of a place free of persecution of the times they lived in and had the calling to move to the new world to be free . When I hike in the mountains I get very emotional very deep in my heart and now I know why. Your detail and history documentation of these places pleases me beyond anything I could imagine. If I never see these places in person , at least you helped me see them and feel the history they have. Well done Sir , Well done !

In the beginning of this video you mentioned the volcanic erruptions that closed down air travel for a week or so. We are Americans but were living in Portugal and were vacationing in Cork when the world came to a stop. What a beautiful place to be stranded. We traveled daily to Kensale to eat and shop. We were almost dissapointed when we finally had to leave. It is a beautful part of the world. Thanks for this video. We had also, on another trip, visited Scotland but didn’t realize how much of the north of Scotland is wild country. Such beauty. It is breathtaking. We’ll just have to make another trip.

I have a question (a land lubber but fascinated by all your videos especially the Sahara trip). Very often you say ‘this will be an overnight voyage ‘ I often wonder why you would choose to travel overnight with the extra hazards incurred. Is it weather, tides of just schedule. Thanks ASH

If one is traveling along the coast where there are anchorages to choose from then generally one would not travel overnight. But if traveling long distances then you have no choice but to keep going. You cannot just drop anchor and stop out in open waters. Traveling at night you need to take turns to keep watches - generally two hours on watch followed by 6 hours off with a crew of four.

Within U.S. waters, nav markers are a mixed bag. Inland waters differ from ocean coasts. The ICW and the Great Lakes differs still. Even among ocean ports there are differences in marking systems.

On the Outer Herbredies, were there ever forests on these islands? Did the forests disappear because of the grazing of sheep and cows? Or is the weather too intemperate for trees to thrive? Trees don't grow in the USA midwest because the weather is too severe: too windy and cold, ice storms breaking tree limbs. As a result, from Chicago to Denver you don't see a tree more than about forty years old and more than 60 feet tall.

Dear Mr Fleming. Your Videos are Simply Stunning, Your Editing, Narration and Information are Truly Delightful, and as good as anything I have seen on the BBC. ( sorry Mr Attenborough ) I live in England but due to ill health (cancer and angina) and my inability to save means I will probably never travel again. Please do not feel sorry for me as I worked in Motor Racing (F1) for 27 years. I have visited 33 Country`s on 4 Continents, and have drunk enough to sink a Fleming!!! And seen some Beautiful places. Your videos take me to places that I will never see but make me feel that I have. Thank You. Seeing this, can you imagine aseries off Viking ships from Norway sailing the same waters, but open boats with no coverage, just ors and sails! They fought and settled in scotland and ireland! as well as England and Wayles. 1300s@1400s. how they ever knew where they were going with no GPS! is a wonder!
