I shiver and shake the warm air cold I'm alone on my own In every mistake I dig this hole Through my skin and bones It's harder starting over Than never to have changed With Blackbirds following me I'm digging out my grave They close in, swallowing me The pain, it comes in waves I'm getting back what I gave I sweat through the sheet as daylight fades As I waste away It traps me inside mistakes I've made That's the price I pay It's harder starting over Than never to have changed With Blackbirds following me I'm digging out my grave They close in, swallowing me The pain, it comes in waves I'm getting back what I gave I drop to the floor like I did before Stop watching I'm coughing I can't be more What I want and what I need are at constant war Like a well full of poison A rotten core The blood goes thin The fever stings And I shake from the hell that the habits bring Let the sick ones down The bells will ring Put pennies on the eyes Let the dead men sing With Blackbirds following me I'm digging out my grave They close in, swallowing me The pain, it comes in waves I'm getting back what I gave I'm getting back what I gave I'm getting back what I gave

God damn it I would’ve KILLED for this to have opened Minutes To Midnight. They could’ve dovetailed the opening moments of “Wake” into the end of “Blackbirds,” led into the rest of, “Wake,” and then, “Given Up.” Not only would it have been powerful and worked tonally, but lyrically, “Blackbirds,” is PERFECT in front of, “Given Up.”

@@bradenheeres9941 it was fetured on A Thousand Suns as a bonus song after it was first released as an unlockable prize after completing their 8-bit rebellion game. But the song was one of the 5 songs that was ultimately cut from the original 17 song tracklist of Minutes To Midnight. So i for one really hope they do a 20th anniversary edition for Minutes To Midnight in 2027. It's the album that had the most songs made for it. We have already gotten the complete versions of No Roads Left and Across The Line on spotify with the 15th anniversary edition. So really hope we get the last 3 aswell and more even. Including Blackbirds in the best quality. :)
@MrJoekun3 ай бұрын
I've just done it but in a simpler way thanks to a app called Mp3 cutter. I've basically just had to put the song "Wake" at the end of "Blackbirds" so it's has becomes a one full track (4:36 long). Of course I've made it the very first track of the album just before "Given Up" and it's sounds great.

So a a flock of crows is called "A murder" and legend has it crows carry the souls of who has passed to the land of the dead / after life. Whenever he says "Black birds following me" I take it as death is always following him around ready to close in on. most likely was an expression of depression feeling like death is around every corner, waiting for us while the clock ticks.

I forget exactly what was said I want to say that Mike touched upon this part of the lyrics but that fall line references, an old tradition across multiple cultures, but I think this particular variation that Mike was talking about it was from the American wild west where they would put coins on a dead person’s eyes to essentially help keep the eyelids closed because I guess through some sort of physiological process. Sometimes the body would spasm post-mortem, and the eyelids would end up popping open so the coins were put on their eyelids to prevent that from happening.

While artists like to use raven as a bad omen, the symbol of darkness, it is very far from truth about these birds behaviour. Raven can be one of the best animal-friend to human.
