Sally, remember going there just before I got sold and demolished. It was around 2007 or 2008. We used it as our base camp to see Mount Rushmore

At the height, the were once four Flintstones Bedrock City attractions: - The original in Custer, SD, which opened in 1966 - Kelowna, BC, which opened in 1970 - Williams, AZ, which opened in 1972 - Chilliwack BC, which opened in 1975

I worked a few summers in custer from 2020-2023 and actually visited the remains of this place. When i saw it in in 2021 much of this was gone and the little roads had greatly deteriorated and left to be reclaimed by grass, and time. The remains of the little wooden train tracks were still there although also be reclaimed by mother nature. The tall brown/red staircase was still there although it had a sign asking people not to climb it. there was an old building with a stage display and rotted audience chairs, but it was sketchy and covered in graffiti with a sign asking to keep out. If you loo around hard you can find old abandoned pieces of the theme park in the dirt and half covered in grass, all being reclaimed by time. Some of the character statues of the flintstones have been privately bought by locals, sometimes people try to sell them on the custer facebook classifieds. there was talk in 2021 that the custer musuem might buy the statues from those people , restore them and display them.

That really sucks I remember going there as a child and wanted to take my children there. Why all the good stuff have to go away I'll never understand.

There's another theme park called "Storybook Land". I think it's in Aberdeen.

Basically the license agreement expired and Flintstones is not exactly big anymore. The park needed a face lift too but the licence cost alone made it completely undoable. I am a local and a lot of people turned out on the final days trying to save it. Shop was picked clean too Went every labor day as a kid. Miss it

Hell I would have used one of those as an apartment like a tiny house, just for the novelty/conversation starter.

The company that owns the rights said it all must come down, as the somewhat competing park close to it(something like fairy tale island or something) wanted to buy all the "houses" and was told that (warner?) said they must be destroyed.

I visited this small flintstone themed area with my wife and children years ago when it was still open. We rode the train, and walked through each building. I remember that a small drive in theater showed Flintstone episodes! There was even a Flintstone themed Mount Bedrock ala Mt Rushmore.

I visited this place on April 1st this year and pretty much everything is gone except the train (which was under a tarp), the train depot, the little observation building with the stairs seen at 1:13, two small dinosaur statues, and a few other small bits. I was hoping to see the large Dino statue but it was gone.

You didn't look very well, Dino is still up on his hill. He even got a fresh coat of paint this summer.

A friend and I stayed two nights at the buffalo ridge that took its place and came across the remains of the park on accident. The only building that still stands is the theatre playhouse, although it was locked and we couldn't get inside. We had originally seen the little western style façade and followed the tracks to what remained of the place. It's just the playground and the playhouse still around. It was really surreal but awesome as hell. Sad to see most of it gone but I love exploring old ruined places so I enjoyed seeing what it had to offer.

Doesn't look like there was a whole lot to do there. But when I was little I always wanted to go there. I have home movie of my aunt driving one of the Flintstone cars

Damn......first trip to the black hills for me since I was a little boy 40 years ago, and now I can't go here and relive that moment in my life when I was just 7 years old visiting this place with my mom and dad:-(. I even remember going there when I was like 3-4 years old (late 70's) and getting to ride the flintstones car and watching the flintstones in the little theater there, and if memory serves me right.....they had Fred, Barney, Wima, and Betty and Dino walking around (costumes).....which had to be a bitch in 100 degree heat, haha. As long as they have Reptile gardens and the badlands are still there, and the PC crowd hasn't dynamited the presidents off Mount Rushmore by then, all will be good, haha.

After 47 years of fun, it has to go because kids are older and focus more on modern stuff and forget but we will never forget the glourious parks of bedrock city which started over 40 years ago came to an end but we still remember about the great park because of it's charm and likeable characters and all of us, we can't be the same without the park and we love the flintstones too and generations will love the primative prehistoric world that is bedrock city

Found out the new owner paid 1.5 million to buy it. He had to do licensing negotiations, to continue to use the characters guessing it was too expensive So they didn’t do it’ 😔 I feel with this generation coming up on childhood memories nostalgia age, they could’ve made a lot of money Edit: and I see the video mentioned the licensing.. still so sad it’s gone

I wasn't sure if it was also supposed to be a camping resort kind of thing and I believe I heard Bedrock City would be back when remodeling or whatever will happen. I just know kids might not remember The Flintstones but I do and there's still Flintstones vitamins like I used to take as when I was little plus the Pebbles cereals. I believe Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resorts I believe it's what's it called are still operating and kids might not remember Yogi Bear, but I do.

Great. Now how are we going to teach our children how the prehistoric cave men and women lived?
@hexadecimal52365 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, after the next war we'll likely be using sticks and stones anyway. Probably we're living on top of multiple civilizations that have destroyed themselves over and over and over.
