I was already doing this technique cause I’m a busy full time working mom with a 1yo, 3yo, and 12yo! I barely get a chance to even shower and always at night! I use a foam and a gel! I like to do a quick wet plop while finishing my skincare (also keeps product off my face. I’m acne prone!) and brushing my teeth. Towel scrunch/dry to get the excess out. Then air dry while doing the rest of my evening self care (lotion, last minute picking up around the house or just before bed chores) Then I diffuse but leave the super hard cast to sleep on in a silk/satin bonnet. Scrunch the crunch and fluff in the morning!

I’ve actually been doing this technique since I was a teenager. I’m 40 now. But, I let my hair air dry until about 85 90% and then I go in with my diffuser and scrunch out the crunch while drying the rest of the way. Honestly, I don’t think your hair can ever have a bay day. It’s so beautiful and shiny.

Yeayy!! A technique video!!🎆 Those are the absolutely most valuable for me, thank you!🙏💞 This is almost what I am trying to develope for myself! I am working on a shake-method! I have my hair FLOODED🌊 with water, then start swinging/flipping/shaking around with some force (almost headbanging 360°)! That messy tangle of stuck-to-head clumps after a single flip makes it impossible for my bob short hair to wave up properly! But the gentle swing-force in every direction keeps the clumps separated so they can fall in place for air-drying after I have got the gel in! This method works in my head, but I havn't actually got it to work really really good yet, but I'm working on it! It's an idea!😅 I hope we can see more experimental technique videos in the future! Thank you again, merry christmas!💞💞💞

I think the flip, coat, scrunch styling method must work great in the salon. I've never actually seen a curl specialist at a salon and most of the traditional hair stylists I've seen have noooooo idea how to style my hair really. They do try, and I'm grateful they are willing to, and especially to use a diffuser. I'm glad they aren't just telling me I need a keratin treatment 🤦‍♀️🙄. But I'm so glad I saw this method of styling so I have an idea of how I might get my waves styled in a salon 😊.

Hi Courtney! I normally don’t write on KZbin but just wanted yo say that loved the video and I’m a type 3 curly girl with thick hair and medium to high density; I used to wash my hair upside down as well but being like that too long can really hurt my neck and I started to change it up with upright styling but the results weren’t my fav so I do this very method of washing, conditioning my hair upright and then I style upside down. Is so much quicker and less stressful to the body. Have a merry Christmas 🎄🎁 and Happy new year 🎉 🥳

After being diagnosed with POTS a year ago I had to adapt my upside down wash and style to this same type of style method. I have found it helps to wash out my condioner upside down (or get the leave in placed) then do a quick plop while I get dressed and get my compression stockings on, then go straight into the gel with this same flip application process. I only diffuse my roots when I do diffuse though. That's just a personal preference for me because my arms being up for too long also makes me dizzy 😅 Never knew it had a name! 😂
@ElizabethDohertyThomas

I also have POTS and the curly world and POTS deserves its own channel!! Heat is our enemy, holding hair dryers is our enemy, and we're often red sweaty lobsters post shower needing to sit asap! lol I'm currently also one armed (thanks EDS related wrist surgery) so I'm startled to learn my styling technique with one hand only has altered how my hair looks!! It's actually probably a better technique than I had been doing this past year. Go figure!
@hansenshandmade
@hansenshandmade 2 жыл бұрын
@@ElizabethDohertyThomas yes it does present its own challenges for sure! For a quick wash, I have a lovely 2 in 1 bar that cleans well but isn't too drying that I can pair with a heavier leave in and call it a day. Makes for a good and easy routine for flare days!
@raraavis7782

Oh, another great tool for hair drying without a blow-dryer is an infrared lamp. They're very inexpensive devices, usually used to heat up sore/tense muscles or treat nose/eat infections. As far as hair drying is concerned, it's about as effective as sitting in the sun, I'd say. And it's good for getting thicker strands to dry all the way through without creating frizz, because infrared lamps warm things up like the radiating heat of a fire. It's a different effect than blowing hot air on the hair.

I have a recent POTS diagnosis too! Heat, being upside down, standing for long periods of time...all of these things tend to make the curly routine a little extra exhausting for me. Feels good to know there are others out there 😊

I love Atoya! Flip coat scrunch works best when you start with her hydration method on the hair. It has to do with how you apply conditioner, detangle and rinse to keep the hair hydrated without weighing it down with too much heavy conditioners! One of my hair goals is to someday have an Atoya haircut. Her default is the Ultra Defining Gel from Diva curl, which is tried with her technique and works great!

This styling routine looks right up my alley! After having super short hair most of my life, adjusting to long wavy/curly hair has been a learning curve that takes such a looonngg time! This one routine will cut some time. Now to just figure out how to deal with the mass amount of detangling and shedding (I wash once a week) that happens. I think that takes up the most time!

Same here! I kept my hair really short and blow dried it for *decades* and then the pandemic hit and I was forced to grow it out :/ I also only wash once a week and it looks like an entire sheepdog gets stuck in the drain! Plus I work 10+ hour shifts so when I finally get a day off, the last thing I want to do is spend most of it doing my hair.

This looks good! It is very similar to something I do when I get the best results. I got it from the Cort Report which is one of the first CGM vidoes I watched and it gives me the best results. However there is a lot of gel involved and my crunch doesn't scrunch out to soft like everyone else's but I get good curl definition.
@SwavyCurlyCourtney
@SwavyCurlyCourtney 2 жыл бұрын
Does it work better if you use less gel or one with less hold? Also, (if you haven't already) you can try a couple different techniques to scrunch out the crunch. You can try clapping it out, lightly doing praying hands, using a silk scarf, or a light hair oil!
@Latbirget
@Latbirget 2 жыл бұрын
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Yes I should try a lesser hold gel. I have fine low density high porosity hair and so the gel is probably weighing it down. I will definitely try those other techniques for scrunching out - I haven't heard of them before!

You are my hair goals, your hair is so shiny! Hmm, maybe I'm not using enough gel and that's my problem? (I thought before I was using too much). My hair is straight on the top half, then the bottom half naturally curls into ringlets on its own. After I do all the things I'm supposed to, the second I scrunch out the gel cast, the top of my hair immediately falls flat again and looks like I haven't just spent hours doing my hair.

So will the pump 2 in 1 define and repair cream not work on its own like this, am I supposed to be using a gel? Is the 2 in 1 cream a leave in conditioner lol? I have tried this technique though after seeing your last one over the tub and it worked a lot better for me when applying product right after a shower which I hadn’t tried. I found that my hair should be very damp when I apply this pump cream (I even tried spraying some day 2 right away). But should I try shampoo conditioner and then a gel? Any gel recommendation :)? Thank you for your channel

Creams do not usually create hold. I do have a series on the different types of stylers. But yes, you would use a lo poo, conditioner and gel with this method. A cream can replace a leave in. Especially, for wavys. For some wavys, it can weigh down the hair to do both at the same time. I usually do one or the other.

My hair would be a tangled mess if I didn't at least run a brush through it before applying gel. I tried once and holy yikes I had rat's nests everywhere. Luckily my hair was still wet so I brushed it out & then did my usual glaze and scrunch I almost always do .. but AFTER brushing lol.
@KE-hr4sb
@KE-hr4sb 2 жыл бұрын
Mine was like that before I started the CGM. I used to get these horrible rats nests at the back of my head after sleeping. My hair likes moisture, so I started using a nightly dab of oil before bed and making sure my scalp was nice and conditioned when I washed. My hair now has a lot more slip and doesn't tangle as easily!
@VengefulAngeI
@VengefulAngeI 2 жыл бұрын
@@KE-hr4sb I just can't apply gel to hair that isn't thoroughly detangled. As far as sleeping I just pop it up in a satin scarf & just take it off in the morning & I'm good to go, my curls get extra springy from being piled on top of my head and often look better than they did the night before lol. I don't even refresh. I'm just not the type that can rely solely on finger detangling. If I take a bit of extra time on washday I can easily go to day 4 or 5 with no refresh, and sometimes even go to 7 though I prefer not to go 7 days, because if I do then I will end up with extra tangles. I find washing the 4th or 5th night works best for my curls all around. You know how it is with curls though, each head of curls has it's own unique personality lol

@@VengefulAngeI I've tried sleeping with my hair in a scarf/bun on top of my head, but I toss and turn a lot (which is where the rats nests at the back of my head come from), so scarves fall off when I sleep. I've also noticed if I brush my hair at all (including with conditioner in it), it straightens out my curl pattern and I can't ever quite get it back as good as it was before brushing.
@VengefulAngeI
@VengefulAngeI 2 жыл бұрын
@@KE-hr4sb Yeah I can't do the pineapple thing or my roots get stretched. I played around with the scarf thing until I got it to work for me. I can't even begin to explain how I tie it lol, but I flip my head over and then sort of gather my curls loosely and push them up and in as I go upright again. It's essentially like how people plop wet curls, as far as how they're sitting on my head, although they're a bit more to the front. But I push them up in there sort of accordion style like how people plop, but I'm using my hands so I can make sure it's in right. I sleep on my back though, and stay that way. I think that's due to a neck & back injury I had years ago. My ex used to say I looked like I was in a coffin when I slept lol. I know plenty of people can get away with finger detangling only, and that's awesome since it's better for your hair, as long it's doing the trick! I finger detangle first, as much as I can, while conditioner is in my hair, that way I can find any knots I may have and gently work them out. I mainly get knots at the nape of my neck, and I have to sorta pull each hair out of the knot one strand at a time. But once I'm done finger detangling I run a tangle teezer thru. Then I use it again after leave in & cream. I do find that doing actual brush styling - like brush coils & stuff - can pull my curl out, especially in my less curly section that's on my left side. It's like a 3 inch wide section that's noticeably less curly than everywhere else lol. And if I try to brush style in other areas, it usually over clumps my hair, regardless of which technique I use. It makes it too uniform I think, and each curl family finds it's neighbor and intertwines 😂 So I just like the tangle teezer & just use it to smooth & distribute before using gel

Coating is like glazing. You are lightly coating the hair with flat hands. Praying hands is where you take your hands as if you were going to pray, and run them over your hair. You can use more or less pressure here.

OK my daughter momma to be fav KZbinr! I was thinking about you in the shower the other day (geez, only curly girls think these sentences) and a video request: you seem to be great at feeling the texture of your hair to know products/coverage. Can you think about household items that mimic various textures, so we can better learn what you feel? Some say is seaweed, but I'm a midwestern girl who hates the dirty sand filled with those things, so it's a terribly useless thing for me! haha I can say that I can feel my hair is ridiculously soft, like the softest cat fur.... when wet in the shower. I just have zero clue if that is a good thing? Bad thing? if that should indicate more protein vs moisture products? Or is it none of the above- everyone has super soft hair in that scenario.
@reviled1
@reviled1 2 жыл бұрын
I think that is a GREAT idea for a video. I'm never quite sure if I've got the right texture when I'm styling. Too much water? Not enough? More cream? Less cream? It's hard to tell. I am a physical therapist and often find the using food is a great way to describe the texture of tissue because it's something everyone can relate to. Don't know that the analogy would be applicable to hair though. 🤔
