Flipping my control arms to correct ball joint angle on my lowered 4x4 Chevy

The ball joint angle on my lowered 4x4 Silverado is atrocious, so I’m going to flip the control arm to correct the angle!
It’s easy! You just need to remove the ball joint, install it in the other end, and re-install the control arm upside down.

Iv done an upper control arm flip on a gmc envoy that I lifted 3in to help correct the ball joint angle, by far the most satisfying mod I made to that car. I didn't feel right selling the car as it was and considering taking the lift off but within an hr of work it was so much better and the new owner loves it.

I’ve never dropped a torsion bar suspension before. Cool that you can flip them like that. The angle of the ball joint looked wayyyyy better

This is actually my first time lowering a truck (except the rat rod, which I don’t really know how to explain lol) and i love it so far. Ball joint angle was way too scary to leave it as-is

Also iv always had vehicles with modified ride height weather lowered or lifted and iv gotten pretty good and accomplishing them cheaply or free. Iv had the same issue u have now just a few years ago, but i wanted the truck to use stock parts so they could easily be changed in the future.... so this might seem bad but it works.. First i took off the oem guides that make it so u can simply turn the bolt to adjust it, then u r left with some simple slotted bolt holes for the bushings so it's possible to simply make those slots longer and use normal washers instead of the oem guides. I don't know if it was necessary but I made my slots overly long to insure the alignment guy had a lot of adjustments, this left very little metal left around the slot so I welded in some steel to basically make the brackets a little longer.

This was done to my daily driver at the time, it was a lowered single cab short bed that also got used for towing cars and at one point it got a little air born off road, all Detroit Axle suspension parts and it still has no suspension issues to this day

That’s wicked. I had to notch the lower control arm mounts on the frame, just about 1/4”. It helped big time

Wouldn't flipping the control arm like that affect the center line of the ball joint? I thought the control arms were side specific and flipping them moves the ball joint off center?

They’re the same part number for left and right control arms, so the ball joint is centered. Some vehicles have left and right specific arms, but I would think if you flipped the left arm and installed it on the right it should be in the correct location.
