Great video. Your videos are without a doubt some of the best instructional videos I've come across trying to learn how to fish in the Pacific Northwest. I'm planning on trying this float method this summer for steelhead on a couple rivers (Wilson, McKenzie). I have a couple questions. How do you know the presentation is in the right depth in the river? Also, do you have a video like this but for drift fishing for Steelhead? I'm curios in that method too. 1 Question about that method, how dow the weight that bounces off the bottom not scare the fish? Thanks!

The good old pilings run, pulled many a Steelhead out of that water. Sadly it has since moved away from that area. Constant digging of gravel and leaving lake pools after, causes drastic changes.

Any good how-to videos you know of? Been out 4 times now and still no luck. I’m fishing the Salmon River in New York. New to float fishing, using a 9’6” Okuma rod with a spinning reel. I am not new to trout fishing but new to float fishing. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Not sure if it’s my drift, depth or what. Any info would be great. Just trying to put some chrome on my line.

try 3-4 feet distance between your float and hook. Seems to be the most effective, as the strike zone is about 30 degrees above the head of the fish.

Hey Rod, I was wondering if during late december until mid january hitting spots mid river and upper river would be worth it for steelhead? Or should efforts that early be put lower river? Thank you
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 3 жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on the river level. If it is high, then you're likely to find fish further upstream. If it is low, focus in the lower river.

Why use procured eggs if youre just going to release the fish?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 8 жыл бұрын
Shaun, the Chilliwack/Vedder River's winter steelhead fishery is not a strictly catch and release fishery. Among these steelhead there are hatchery fish which you are allowed to retain if you wish. As you can see in this video, most of the fish that the gentlemen caught were wild fish so had to be released. If I remember correctly there was one hatchery fish among the catches but it was not that fresh so it was best to release it.
