Here in Brazil, some garages in São Paulo insulate the doors like dam gates, and also insulate the walls, because if the water rises, it stays outside the building. In the absence of an option to change addresses, it may be an option. Sorry for the losses.

Ben, get those thick tent type of tarps. Lay it down on the ground and drive your car over them then wrap it upwards like a present when you not using it. You can double layer it too and those are pretty good water resistant. We do that to our cars here during floods and it keeps the car bone dry.. Hope this little bit of advice helps you and anyone else facing this issue :)

To add to this, any water that DOES get in will be miniscule and actually due to the opening being oriented towards the sky, moisture that builds up from heat will be venturied-out through the top as well. sort of like a steam pot.

sadly flash floods and overland flooding will become much more common. to protect your home and your garage, perhaps see whether there are landscape consultant or whether diversion drains may reduce how water may enter your home and its surrounding. all the best to you, Ben and your crew. you guys make amazing videos.

You reminded me of the Texas floods a few years ago. There was a BMW M3 owner that managed to save his car from flooding by rasing it up on blocks. Having a lift installed in a garage would be perfect to save a car from rising flood waters.

Flood remediation is a big undertaking. If this garage is positioned such that it takes on 2ft of water in heavy rain, you're not going to fix that with some ditches. Notice how his power points are half way up the wall? This garage was built with an expectation of flooding. My wife designs flood remediation for infrastructure. It's massively expensive to fix a situational problem.

When our workplace got flooded, something we found out over the course of several months following: even things you think survived and are okay will often have issues and quit, or go bad, a lot of our electronic items we had up on shelves were simply not built for that sort of humidity and temperature put together over an extended period of time. Paperwork in manuals up on shelves, we'd open up and find mold growing inside. We had to get rid of nearly everything that couldn't be cleaned with bleach and water (and survive the cleaning). It was truly depressing.

Look at Louisiana and how its actually washing the states landmass away. Not in a small way either, Since the 1930s, Louisiana has lost over 2,000 square miles of land, an area roughly the size of State of Delaware. Some researchers estimate that the state is losing a land mass equivalent to 30 football fields every day...

As someone who lived in a house that had a basement that flooded every spring for 13 years: High shelving, and if there's a known point of entry for water, pack that area with something absorbent (I used cat litter that starts as a wood pellet, but turns to saw dust when it gets wet - If you need to replace it, you can suck it up with a shop vac when it dries, and it absorbs a decent amount of water). It won't stop water from getting in, but it could be the difference between an inconvenience and a disaster

What a sad story, but will make a great beginning for better things to come. I hope that with a full tear down the cappuccino lives for a few more years, i gues it's not a complex car, and maybe a wiring loom isn't that expensive. The best for you Ben!

Put a lotus engine (the toyota v6 one) in the little car. For your floor, find the low point, make a good-sized hole there, then install a pump to automatically pump out the water when it's submerged. Me and my dad did this in our basement in two spots and it fixed all of our flooding issues.

Almost got me tearing up when you showed about the Evo... That's my dream car, and the build on Laanaaa just makes me dream even more about Evos.. Seeing your sadness knowing all the work that just added up to the existing list made me feel so bad Project Cars are a pain when everything goes wrong, but they give us so much good things when they're running, I wish you'll be able to make Laanaaa great again asap, to enjoy it again

a few weeks ago we got 11 inches in 12 hours and i got 17 inches of water in my shop took out my plasma cutter, welder, new riding mower, powder coating oven, saws and various other tools. I also had stuff to sell, use, or give away that i had to throw away, it indeed made a decision easier I could never seem to make before.

Please make the cappuccino into a build series. Weirdly enough I know most cars in this situation are a write off but I think I speak for everyone when I say we want to know what exactly to do in the event our lifelong cars end up in this situation. Sorry you had to go through this but that just makes the comeback that much more sweeter.

So sorry this happened to you bro! Unfortunately this has happened to my family’s garage here in Washington more than once. Which means a lot of my stuff has been ruined by water damage. They now have a bandaid fix which was easy to install and keeps flooding almost completely at bay. There is a drop in grated gutter that drains any water from entering the garage and drops off each side into two large dug in drums that have sump pumps in them that kick on with a specific water level. Really not fancy or expensive, and lets you not sleep in fear. I’m sure you guys are much smarter and creative than I am but if you have any questions about it I’d love to help. Please keep up the awesome positive attitudes in spite of hard times and great content. You guys rock 👍

So sorry man, it’s hard when things like this happen, especially to your babies you’ve been putting your heart and soul into. It is only stuff at the end of the day, it can be fixed and/or replaced. All the best dude!
