You reminded me of the Texas floods a few years ago. There was a BMW M3 owner that managed to save his car from flooding by rasing it up on blocks. Having a lift installed in a garage would be perfect to save a car from rising flood waters.

Flood remediation is a big undertaking. If this garage is positioned such that it takes on 2ft of water in heavy rain, you're not going to fix that with some ditches. Notice how his power points are half way up the wall? This garage was built with an expectation of flooding. My wife designs flood remediation for infrastructure. It's massively expensive to fix a situational problem.

Ben, get those thick tent type of tarps. Lay it down on the ground and drive your car over them then wrap it upwards like a present when you not using it. Never keep valuable items in a *Special Flood Hazard Area*. Make sure the structure is elevated. If not, purchase flood insurance contents coverage for $250,000 which is max available without buying excess flood coverage. Flood insurance is not cheap depending on how many feet the Lowest Adjacent Grade (LAG) is above/below the Base Flood Elevation (BFE). Every foot below the BFE makes the coverage cost go up exponentially.

When our workplace got flooded, something we found out over the course of several months following: even things you think survived and are okay will often have issues and quit, or go bad, a lot of our electronic items we had up on shelves were simply not built for that sort of humidity and temperature put together over an extended period of time. Paperwork in manuals up on shelves, we'd open up and find mold growing inside. We had to get rid of nearly everything that couldn't be cleaned with bleach and water (and survive the cleaning). It was truly depressing.

It's actually not that bad because it's not salt water, it hasn't been exposed to water for long, the water level did not reach the engine and the cars weren't on when they were introduced to water. I would pull out any ECU's, fuse boxes..etc, use some electronics cleaner or 99% isopropyl alcohol, dry them out good. do the same with other affected components like the headlights...etc.. Pressure wash the car, removing any muddy water, then dry the cars well, check gas, coolant, oil...etc, drain and replace if needed. Just don't leave the cars wet for too long as components will become corroded. If you act fast , there should be no issues.

I rather have a platform that can automatically lift my car(s) in the event of a flood and get it's roof dented by the building's roof than coming back to flooded car(s)

As someone who lived in a house that had a basement that flooded every spring for 13 years: High shelving, and if there's a known point of entry for water, pack that area with something absorbent (I used cat litter that starts as a wood pellet, but turns to saw dust when it gets wet - If you need to replace it, you can suck it up with a shop vac when it dries, and it absorbs a decent amount of water). It won't stop water from getting in, but it could be the difference between an inconvenience and a disaster

Good luck! I had a similar thing happen to a vehicle and while it's now running the interior is gone and fate uncertain. Let the electrical dry and rinse off whatever is dirty with distilled water to clean it until it's as clean as you can get them, and let stuff dry for as long as you can and with luck only some minor stuff like fusible links are bad. I'd disconnect every electrical connector and clean them out, they like to trap sediment.

Hate seeing this, man. Learned the hard way the last couple years that water doesn’t care, and will get anywhere it wants to and anywhere you’ll let it. Been fighting it the last couple of years, and luckily our basement hasn’t flooded (have had to ‘save’ the basement last-minute multiple times this year with the storms blowing through the U.S. this season). It IS a silver-lining that it forces you to be a lot cleaner, but it still sucks. Check your home or shop’s grading and gutters ASAP. Make sure water doesn’t flow within a couple (at least 4-5) feet from your house. Water will still get in, but that’s normal. That’s just what water does - but you wanna keep it to a minimum. Hope all is well and you feel better soon and come back even better - both financially, and with a clearer ‘picture’ of what you want, need, and care about!

So sorry man, it’s hard when things like this happen, especially to your babies you’ve been putting your heart and soul into. It is only stuff at the end of the day, it can be fixed and/or replaced. All the best dude!

What a sad story, but will make a great beginning for better things to come. I hope that with a full tear down the cappuccino lives for a few more years, i gues it's not a complex car, and maybe a wiring loom isn't that expensive. The best for you Ben!

Oh no! You seem to be handling it well. On the positive side, your garage will be super clean when finished and you're well practiced at rebuilding cars. Maybe ramps or lifts for future protection? Good luck!

Also, an engine needs to be "de-flooded / de-watered" before attempting to start it. The reason is water cannot be compressed in the cylinders and will destroy / bend all the rods.

That’s so cruel! When in situations like this you just have to knuckle down and get it done. It helps heal the pain and anger. Learn and reset you goals and you maybe surprised by new opportunities. I had a drug and drunk driver crash into my workshop and destroyed three cars and the building. One car was my mr2k20 project only needing fuel lines and a tune.things work out and you grow. For me the shop got fix I have never been so busy and have almost completed and awd k20 eg civic.
