Flooding and wind damage in Lake Jackson from Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl swept into Texas early Monday with heavy rains and powerful winds, knocking out power to 1.5 million homes and businesses and flooding streets with fast-rising waters as first responders raced to rescue stranded residents.

As a former Brazoswood and Brazosport College student, I am very interested in what large buildings you were photographing. Haven’t lived in Lake Jackson since 1973. Difficult to recognize anything.

Same. Left Lake Jackson in 1985. I thought the big building was a high school.

That building is Lake Jackson intermediate School

LJIS is on Oyster Creek Drive and footage also shows around Oak Drive near HEB.

@@shellylister7006 Interesting. I haven't been back to Lack Jackson since the late 90's. I went to A.P. Beutel Elementary back in the day (in the 80's) and thought it must be somewhere right in the vicinity of some the footage here. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

@@a.s.2426 You are probably correct with some of the latter footage being around AP Beutel - I’m not positive. I do know for certain the footage for Lake Jackson Intermediate is on Oyster Creek Drive and it intersects with Oak Drive. There is an HEB across the street from LJIS along with a Wendy’s and a gas station and car wash. There are some other smaller business in the strip center next to HEB. If you have not been in LJ since the 70s or 80s, so much has changed. I moved here in 1989 and the place has just grown and changed so much for the better.
