Hi, can I ask why you used oil based stain instead of something like Bona NordicSeal for the white wash look? I'm in the process of re-finishing my floors, they are red oak. My floor company suggested red out, Bona NordicSeal and Bona HD Traffic to look similar as yours. thanks!

Hi Robbie, the advantage of bleaching the floor and water popping the grain means that the oil based stain which is a penetrating oil can seep right down into the grain which not only seals it up but also impregnates the color into it. The method you are speaking of is all film based products which means that the tinted coatings being used are being applied overtop of the grain and not actually changing the grain pattern color, you will have an overall white in your coatings finish. There is a massive difference between these two systems but it also comes down to time, costs and your flooring professionals ability on how to do it. Hope this helps, best of luck with your floor.

@@evolutionabrasivescoatings Thanks for getting back to me I really appreciate it. Do you mind me asking what stains you used and the mix ratio of each to get this color? Is that wood red oak? Can I use Bona Red Out instead of bleach for a similar affect? Lastly, I heard that you can't use waterbase on top of oil, but I think your stain was oil based. Is that ok?

@@bprobbie Hi Robbie, I used Berger-Seidle base oil white 1lt and added 100ml of Berger-Seidle grey to tint it up. The grey is a very strong color so be sure not to over mix. I only had a small area in this instance so I only needed the 1lt or so, larger areas you will need a few liters. The timber is a common Australian species called blackbutt, it is a lighter colored hardwood compared to others here in Australia. Im not overly familiar with Bona red out as this product has not hit our shores yet and I have seen it released in the states some months ago. Do some research or asking a floor guy if it is possible to achieve this look with the red out. Yes you can apply waterbase over top, just you cant apply oil base over waterbase coatings. Hope this helps and thanks for enquiring.

Beautiful, can I ask how much you’d charge per square foot out of curiosity? Also do you buy new socks each time you do this lol😂

Hi, Here in Australia we charge by the square meter and on average we charge around $88 a sqm including taxes. Haha yes the socks do cop a beating and do become multicolored after a few oiled floors! Thank you

I must ask if this is your install. I don't want to hate on your work. The actual finishing is gorgeous but holy shit who ever installed that floor should just retire

Give them a try. The best to work in in some situations.
