Micro Lure Fishing for Crappie in Shallow Water (Jerkbaits for Panfish)

In this video, Davis Lenzen demonstrates how to use micro crankbaits (jerkbaits) like the Eurotackle Z-spender to catch crappie in shallow water. These are are mixed between pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn mode. It is mid May in Wisconsin and water temps are in the low 60 degree range. The micro lure causes a reaction bite when it is twitched and then allowed to pause for a short time period. Crappie are notorious for feeding up in the water column, so as this micro lure suspends and slowly rises, it triggers the fish to bite.

you're right! Ive caught crappie on my size 7 xrap before using single hooks but i can see the smaller size 5 being a winner!

I like the mini square bill crank baits by strike king (I think). I catch everything on those. Even ones I don’t want to catch, like long nose gar and bowfin

Fishing east of Chetek, WI for a week around Father's Day. Picked up a Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 and going to temporarily mount it to our rental pontoon to up our catch possibilities as we were traditionally bank/dock reliant or fishing in known areas. Loved your series on how crappie look on 2d. We generally use gulp alive minnows, twister tails, worms and other soft plastics. Any tips to increase our Crappie catches?

Well right now I'm finding crappie in 8-15ft of water along weedlines. Casting small jigs or crankbaits has been working well for me.

I was using 10lb braid in this video, but you could size down with 6lb mono if you were fishing in very clear water.

@@FloppingCrappie Davis I have to give you great praise...I used the micro blue yellow white crank with 6lb Mr. Crappie high viz line and caught my biggest Crappie so far this year 13.5 inches and bout 1.5 pounds!!! Next cast lost the lure lol but released her safely back in water...she looked at little big and didn't wanna chance her not spawned out yet been a weird spring for us here in Central Illinois. Thank you again so very much for your videos and putting me on this lure and showing me the simplest way to tie a loop knot!!!

So many of these videos on this lure, you all are fishing this way too fast. Give it a couple jerks and then pause for a second or two and let it just suspend.
