I was very very lucky. My sunflower seedlings actually survived two 29 degree nights. I covered them heavily and gently with pine needles at night, and took them off in the morning when temperature rose. It was a huge job, since I had so many little seedlings....but it was totally worth it. I can't wait to try Steve 's seeds!!!!

The sunflowers I had planted in the ground came up, 6/7 ain't bad. One of my plants though have been chewed on though, my suspicion is that it was earwigs. I may pull it to give the other plants more of a chance, they are the mammoth sunflowers. Axel was amusing, your daughter was adorable in her cameo, and I was fascinated by not only the tilling and planting of Sunflower Steve, but amused by his cats too. Thank you for a wonderful video. Cheers!

Nicole!!!! I had my mouth open the whole time watching you pull out those decimated trays. OMG I'm so sorry about that, my sincere condolences - those damn chipmunks are maniacs!!! I myself have only been growing one single Sunflower this season. It was as a happy accident from the bird seed I use and I was tptally devastated when the growing bud on top of the three foot stalk got chomped off by a squirrel. ( I live on a balcony and so the bud was at the perfect munching height for a squirrel to scurry right up to it goddamnit) That being said... The sunflower is giving me two NEW buds this time around at leaves further down the stem!! Nature is amazing and I'm glad I didn't chop the mutilated stalk down straight away. I had no idea sunflowers could come back from having their heads bitten off!! Absolutely love your videos and content and thanks to Mr. Sunflower Steve as well! I hope your re-plantings go well and happy growing! :)

I really love sunflower Steve🌻 , I love that you have him on your channel. Thank you for him.. I planted sunflowers over 7 years ago now they come up wild alllllll over the garden, I allow them to grow where ever they want due them being so beneficial to the bees in summer and the birds in the fall. I had some very unique ones grow last year and I did save seed from them. I might have to plant some to see if the uniqueness comes back in the second generation. 🌻👨🏼🌾❤️🌈🌅👩🏻🌾🍅🤩👍🏼🎈

Super exciting, beautiful sunflowers. I’m curious though, what does sunflower Steve do to put nutrients back into the soil?
@sunflowersteve39403 жыл бұрын
All of the leaves and stalks from the sunflowers get tilled back in for organic matter. I also spread 10-10-10 granular fertilizer on the whole field in the fall and spring. And then, every 4 or 5 years, I idle the field and plant a cover crop of clover that gets tilled back in the following year.
