Join me as I go fly fishing again, only this time, I do it in the beautiful Eastern Sierras; more specifically, the Mammoth Lakes area. Not only was it lovely just being out there, but I also finally manage to snag my first fish on a fly rod!
Grab a beer, grab a coffee, grab something nice to sip and enjoy the video.

Yay!!!!! I’m so happy you caught something! That’s awesome for you. I love the way you took care of the little guy while you were trying to unhook him. I thought I was the only that took such care in these things. Great video! As usual 👍

I suggest you visit Slim Potatohead's You Tube channel for some tips on how to keep your belongings from flying around the camper on bumpy roads. He goes into very rough sections of Canada with an Outback travel trailer towed with a Jeep SUV.

Also, be patient when setting the hook. Let the fish take the fly for a little swim. And it's very gentle when setting a hook. Just a very light upward motion once the fish has ot in their mouth.

Fish are pretty resilient, if one ever seems to be a bit sluggish after he's been out of the water too long we just move him back and forth by hand to move some O2 through his gills and after a minute or two they should feel a bit better and swim off. Also you should watch a few fly fishing tips videos to help you get started. Practice makes perfect/better.

I don’t fish, but fish tend to feed in the early morning and late evening. If you’re being chewed up by bugs, you’re likely to catch something. Mom came back from a fishing trip all excited about how great it was, even though her eyes were almost swollen shut from bug bites.

Since you’re new to fly fishing, I’ll give you a pointer, if you can see the fish, they can see you. Try kneeling down by the water and staying back a bit so that the fish can’t see you standing there swinging your line. That’s probably why the fish weren’t biting in that spot towards the end of your video. Tight lines dude! 🎣

Smart Trout!🐟🐟🐟😏Except for a Jr. one(so cute)🐟. He was so adorable!🤗 The Mammoth Lakes area has so much greenery and the snow on the mountains make everything complete!🌄 I am so glad that you caught Jr.🐟(🤭-a little nickname-being kind about it) and that you let him go! 💚💛There will be more fish in the near future that will bite- probably even more with a fishing buddy, as you've mentioned.👍😊I think that would be pretty cool! I'm even sure that your shelf will get fixed, eventually!🔨😁 That dinner looked like it hit the spot🍔🥗🥔🍺! But once you really get settled in, ☕Yeah!

I don’t know if you’ve changed your mindset. But I learned how to fly fish in 1 year of going and every time you go you gotta find an old guy up there while you’re learning to show you the ropes. Try pleasant valley reservoir and stick to the sides. I’d also invest in a pair of waders cuz you’ll never get to all the fish from only the path.

Way to go Jonathan, great technique for only 2nd time fly fishing. Rio products has some great fishing vids. One piece of advice if I may, try mending your line once it’s in the water, presentation is everything, so if the current takes your line- it’ll look unnatural to fish. Fly should be in front of the line! Happy fishing
