5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4's ace (at the START of the battle)

Fun fact, being the first game to introduce mega evolutions, XY very graciously give the player a whole 6 options to try out during the main story. Before Diantha, the only mega stones you can obtain are the Kanto starter you pick, Aerodactyl, Lucario, Ampharos, Gengar and Abomasnow. So not only do you barely fight any, you dont get many either
