You can book the A350 on various long haul routes including to JFK from Madrid. For a cheaper “long haul” experience, the IB3166 and IB3167 are usually A330 or A340 departures daily. Availability on Avios is usually excellent as the cabins are large and many seats are on sale. Book direct with the airline or via BA depending on where your Avios are hosted.

Not yet. My local Airline SAS is supposed to get a few within the next few years but as of now whenever I'm flying I'm mostly just spotting A320's and A340's at my airport from SAS along with the occasional CRJ, ATR and A330.

Yep.. flew Iberia A350 in November from Madrid to JFK return. usually fly BA but thought in would give them a chance... flew economy on way out... have to say for a plane that was so new.. it was filthy.. rubbish from previous flight still on floor and under seats and the bathroom was beyond filthy.. cabin crew whilst nice were clumsy.. drinks being spilled on loads of people Return was business class.. better service but again seat was filthy.. had what I hope was melted chocolate all over it.. seat was comfy and great IFE.. but agree very plain and boring interior .. back to BA me thinks

A few reasons: 1) I stay in very cheap and unremarkable hotels for the most part, to keep my costs down. 2) This channel takes up nearly all of my time. 3) I don’t have any interest in hotels and wouldn’t watch videos about them myself. Hi Paul, the individual air vents (gaspers) are not standard on newer Airbus and Boeing models. An airline has to select them as an additional option which has a cost.

Hi, I happen to fly a lot to the South of Spain, with Iberia or Swiss (from Geneva). I was never disappointed with the very good service. Smiling people, always at your disposal and very relaxed. I happen to travel business class sometimes as well as economy, and the food service is really good. Comparing to Swiss, I flew Business twice in 2 different months to Malaga recently and got same food on the two flights (it was fine for me, but business man that take this route often told me it's been like this for a while). Both services are really good though and I really love flying with both these aircrafts (well a little pref for the SCeries and Swiss but yeah...) I realised from people that are not used to "Spanish routines" that they often dislike Iberia's service... Maybe "too relaxed, too friendly" and it looks casual (when they are actually really professional).. Being half Spanish I really enjoy flying with them as I love flying with such friendly crews (compared to American airlines for example where I personally really dislike the service). I think there's a big part of "cultural differences" here, this is why I don't usually say "American service is bad". Hope the people complaining about European routes with Iberia will have a better experience. This message is not about transatlantic flights where Iberia would not be my favourite choice though.

I remember when the 787 first came out, airlines such as American used it on shorter haul flights from, for example, Chicago OHare to Dallas-Fort Worth for testing. I have flown route and it was usually on the MD80 series aircraft. Great video!

I agree, if you are trying to sleep, the color of the cabin does not matter. I am sure that grey makes the cabin seem cleaner, you are less likely to notice old stains.

I'm desperate to fly on an A350, I'm booked next Jan to fly on BA 787 between LHR-EWR which just leaves the A350/80 to go!! Loved this video, shame the cabin looked so boring! Have to admit, I do love Madrid airport, such a lovely space! Not flown Iberia in years either, must change that soon!! Good video as always, Paul! i flew the a359 4 times with singapore, and its definitely one of the nicest economy experiences i've had. very roomy, comfy and i was pretty happy with it all :D

@@ecclestonsangel I know! I'm kinda sad about it but at the same time, they weren't doing as well as everyone hoped and I think the A350/B787 will both do much better jobs! I'm planning a trip out to LAX next October or November with BA and they usually use their A380s on that route.. but who knows! If i never get to then... oh well!! It'll just be lost in memory! :)

@@PompeyJimmy I hear ya. I think it was a matter of "bigger isnt always better." I'm rather bummed I'll never have the opportunity to fly a 747, but they're all gone here in the US. We never bought the 380s to begin with, so, won't get to fly either one. I tend to be a loyal Delta flyer, and they just bought a bunch of 320s, 330s, and 350s, I believe. I'll most likely end up on one of those when I go to Vegas. For short hauls, I usual.y fly the RJs: usually start on a 700, and when I connect in Detroit they switch me over to a 900. We don't have propjets anymore in the US, either. They were getting way too old, and they were a lot more crash-prone. The RJs are some of the quietest jets I've ever been on. Very enjoyable, even if they're not widebodies.

From my experience as an ex cabin crew, casseroles and bowls must be unwrapped before serving business class passengers. Every tray must have 2 empty glasses - one for water and the other for wine.

FYI-Minute 2:38, the cross on the side of the mesa. Right at the bottom of the cross is the Cemetery of Paracuellos del Jarama, and in that cemetery lie the graves of approximately 4,500 innocent persons (some as young as 12 years of age) that were murdered, during the course of barely 2 weeks, by the Socialist/Communist government during the Spanish Civil War. Just some FYI.

Hey Paul, That was a very good Trip Report, I would absolutely love to do some flights like that, short haul with a wide body aircraft. Your reviews are particularly useful and nicely made, and it gives a pretty exclusive insight of what it looks like to fly and travel, the premium way. Boring, boring, boring.... not your video Paul, that's great but the cabin colour design or lack of design. Having said this, as a Oneworld Sapphire member who does most of my flying in Premium Economy, if I do get the opportunity and choice to fly business class, I would choose Iberia business class over say British Airways, because I value the privacy and less dense layout in Iberia.... maybe here's a suggestion... comparing airlines within the 3 major alliances, Oneworld, Star Alliance, SkyTeam

The cockpit of the a350 is much different (and better looking I must say) than the one shown in the magazine. The a350 is an amazing plane. I flew it a couple of months ago with Lufthansa from Munich to Chicago and it was flawless.

Maybe they keep the foils on to keep the food warm. My EVA Airways crew did the same when I flew from Heathrow To Taipei via Bankok. I flew a nice B77-300ER in economy.

Hi Paul, and thanks for this video. The reason why they wrap all the dishes in foil and plastic (and I wish ALL airlines on ALL classes would do exactly the same) is called... hygienics : Best way to make sure that no one has sneezed or spit or simply talked over the food (germs travel fast too) before it gets to your seat.

Yes, but they should unwrap it before presenting it to you. It’s basic service standards. You wouldn’t expect to go to a restaurant and be served food with clingfilm on.

Iberia have, for some years now, flown a long haul aircraft on the Madrid - London route on flight IB3166. I've flown it a few times over the last few years, however it's been an Airbus A340-600, that has previously landed from a return flight to Mexico City. For 2020, the A340-600 will run until around the end of March, and then the A350-900 will run throughout the summer, so I'm looking forward to the experience

As for the food being served with foil and plastic wrap still in place..., never-ever in a premium cabin. If the turbulence is such that may cause spillage, the cabin crew should not be performing a service. Therefore, I respectfully disagree with some of the comments of others in this post. As you correctly mention, if you dined at a upscale restaurant and your dinner arrives at the table still "dressed" in kitchen wrap, what impression would that leave? If this is truly the policy, shame on IB. If the crew decided to take a shortcut (or error), then a great learning point. As always, appreciate your videos.

The reason for a A-350 on MAD-LHR is to get crew up to speed on the new aircraft type. I think the need between 45-60 sectors before the get their wings on the new type. You get to earn your wings faster on a 2h flight than on a 8h. flight. My sister flew TG 787 KUL-BKK v.v Normaly it was flown with a 777. Note to Paul. SAS will get their new A-350 later this year. That will for sure fly OSL-ARN v.v. ARN-CPH v.v. and CPH-OSL v.v. For sure also to LHR.

Very interesting video! I have flown Iberia many times between Madrid and South America and have always been frustrated by the blandness of the service and product. They could do so much better with just a little bit more effort. I much prefer Latam if going to South America, planes are in a better condition, food delicious and often the planes are not full so if travelling economy, you can often have a row of 3 seats to yourself :-)

Hey Paul, if you want a suggestion for a rail operator, i recommend izzy. Izzy is owned by thalys and is a budget high speed rail operator in between Brussels and Paris. Some interesting facts about izzy is that you can buy a ticket without a guaranteed seet on a high speed service and they use the old eurostar (class 373) trains.

Non-Schengen flights also depart from the main Terminal 4 area (T4a). These ones are up to the Airbus A321 fly to say Birmingham (BHX) and London Heathrow (LHR).

Great video as always Paul ! My thoughts on the meal dishes all covered up...sanitary reasons and keeping the hot portion temperature while it’s been transported to your seat ! I actually prefer it that way since planes are full of bacteria and I’m a germaphobe 😂it’s comforting to me that my food hasn’t been touched and is covered. I do agree with you though,that it lacks presentation! Thank you for this review!

At 5.06..its a shame its not 50 Shades of Grey...(sorry bad pun there) ! On a 2 hour flight with take off and descent they probably have a window of about an hour to get meals etc out to Business Class and Economy passengers but I agree get rid of the wrapping!!! The seats and everything else looked pretty good! Great honest review again mate!!

Hi Paul, I fly this route from London to Fuerteventura and back via Madrid every month. The segment from Madrid to Fuerteventura is with Iberia Express. It might surprise you that in business class both airlines serve identical meals (the latter being a Low Cost Model). Lunch and dinner are identical and are served as Lunch or Dinner. The foil is always left on by both carriers usually messing up your hands whilst trying to pull it off. I once got told on the A340-600 that they don't hand out headphones on such short routes and I actually had to ask for a meal and a bottle of water. BA run a wide bodied service once per day to Madrid too, both carriers use the larger planes to move cargo from hub to hub....... What I was told anyway. Iberia could have done so much with the introduction of the A350-900 to really do something special. I mean for the seat not to join the ottoman is just shoddy. An opportunity waisted. Keep up the great videos on KZbin many of us don't have time to follow you live.

Why is it all gray? Knowing how it's done in the corporate world, this decision must have gone through multiple rounds of focus groups and approvals. And this is the end result??? Iberia must really be hurting for money, because penny pinching is the only explanation.

Thanks for this nice video, Paul! I was on the same route in June 2018 on one of Iberia´s A340-600. Nice experience, too! Don´t know if you did that before, too, maybe I missed one of your videos (EDIT: duh, you mentioned it, sry). Keep up the good work and thanks again! Hi Paul, love the videos. It would be great to see you take a flight to Ronaldsway airport in the Isle of Man. It’s an interesting small airport with spectacular views on the approach. The flight only takes about 30 minutes so it’d be a novelty video to watch and there are a number of interesting aircraft at the airport within s close proximity. Keep up the great videos

Iberia do still use their A350 on that route as well as their A330 and A340s sometimes also did you all know that you can also get a boeing 777 on that route with British airways around once per day as well

Their catering on long haul flights is a LOT better. I flew MAD-JFK on their business class last year and the food was truly delicious. Way better than what I expected.

The description of the veal burger looks good 8:23. To fix blandness problems of course your best bet is to add salt and pepper but really you shouldn't have to fix their mistakes.

Delta just purchased a bunch of Airbus craft recently. Not sure about the 350, but maybe. Will probably get to test them out this summer when I head to Vegas, as well as LAX. We shall see.

I love taking the LATAM "secret" flight between MAD and FRA since I have family near FRA, but it's worth noting that the flight is treated as non-Schengen, so it is necessary to clear Immigration on either end. The first time I did it, I was in a horribly long, slow-moving line in FRA as several widebodies had arrived from Asia at the same time, i.e. countries that don't have a visa waiver program.

Hi Paul! I had the "pleasure" to fly Iberia on a longhaul flight in Business Class, even though I had to admit that 52,500 Avios + €80 for taxes and fees are a great deal for a 12h flight to Shanghai. The lunch had no flavour at all and the coffee was just as bad. The blanket and the pillow were great though.
