Also to add! I have a GCC and he's trained to poop only on his stand or cage! He still has the odd accident but he's REALLY good about it. The way I did it was time how long between poops when he's put with me. Then the next day I started putting him on the stand, saying go poop, and waiting. When he pooped I would instantly reward him by bringing him back onto my shoulder now it's been over a year. He flies to his perch or cage to poop then flies back over! It just takes a bit of paitence and rewarding but they are really smart and get it quickly.

My hack for 32 years of owing a parrot - I hung a curtain rod above and behind my birds cage and hung a sheet from it (with curtain clips) to protect my wall from flung food and watcher splashes. Once a month I hung a new sheet and tossed the old one in the wash. Much easier than trying to wash walks!

My son just got a cockatiel, and I have upcycled an old t-shirt with long sleeves: I have sewn a lot of old, shiny, colourful buttons (saved from old clothes before tossing them out) on it. Now he wears it whenever he takes out his bird, so it protects his other clothes AND the bird loves to climb around on him and nibble around on the buttons. A perfect 2-in-1 use. 😁

Potty Baskets - Potty training is super easy. Put bird on basket handle, reward bird for pooping in the paper lined basket below. Done. No poop anywhere but the basket. Happy birbs, Happy people. They will most likely fly to the basket to get the reward.

I would collect the feathers and donate them to an avian vet for imping procedures. It can save lives! I only keep maybe one or two nice feathers from each bird to remember them by. I don't feel that you need their feathers to remember them... taking photos of them is another great way to keep their memories, as well as keeping them in your heart. :)

I don't use disposable cage liners anymore. I just got a couple of those cheap polar fleece blankets you see on sale in the fall for couches. Polar fleece doesn't really fray so all you do is cut it to the size of the tray. And there ya go! Washable, reusable, whatever pattern you want, ect. Just shake them out over the trash (or, honestly, I just shake the solids off in my yard) and toss it in the wash or rinse in the sink and hang dry.

I recently discovered pressure washing and it’s the greatest thing. Of course it’s not an all the time option but every few months I can take the cages outside one at a time and pressure wash all those little corners that are hard to get with brushes and cloths. It’s just fantastic, definitely recommend.

Daniel had the most incredible sea blue, turquoise eyes!!, much like Danny boy's colocolor!.. My grandfather used to play the piano and sing ," O Danny Boy " to Daniel every time we visited and the name became his .. Danny Boy's favorite song is that!! He bobs, weaves, rocks and whistles .. lol. Adorable.. he brings so much joy to my fractured heart ❤️ 💙 Thank you again for your videos and you!! I have a hack that makes cleaning my 8 cages fast. I bought a 1,000 foot roll of brown paper, 24” wide, and I put that on top of the metal grate. I no longer have to scrub them. I can clean 8 cages in less than 10 minutes. Once a month, I steam clean all the sides and perches and toys. I let poop in the parrot room dry, use a scraper to lift up the drooping, sweep up everything and then wash the floor. I use glass or ceramic ramekins as dishes for all my birds. I have 2 sets of the dishes so I can put the dirty dishes in the sink to clean later and take out the clean ones and lay them on the cart. Then I load up the food and wheel the cart into the bird room. I have a bottled water dispenser in there. I fill each water dish and pair it up with the food dish, then do my stewardess bit by loading up each cage with the appropriate dishes. I have 3 GCCs, 2 Moustache Parakeets, a Quaker, a Brown head and an orange winged Amazon. I make all their toys because the only one they seem to like, sometimes, are the sola kebab pieces. I stopped buying toys when not one of my birds even looked at them. But, put measuring spoons together with the flat parts facing and they go nuts. I use cupcake liners to make pompom balls, paper cups and straws to make foraging toys and I stock up each Easter with shredded paper used in baskets and I buy all I can before it disappears. A paper cup, cut with 4 slits, stuffed with shred, with a nutriberry in it, or a nut, and then punch some holes in the top, one in the bottom and get a zip tie, a bead and go through the bottom hole and through the holes at the top (it’s easier to do this first), and zip it closed. All my birds love this. For conures up, boxes on top of the cage will keep them busy designing their new condo complex. I have a climbing net that covers the ceiling and part of a wall in the bird room. I have a big play stand at one end of the 20’ living room and a smaller one (table top one) near where I sit in the living room. All my birds are flighted.

Baby wipes, though... Really great for cleanup. You can use one baby wipe multiple times over the course of a couple of hours before having to throw it away. Technically using anything that you need to wash to re-use may not end up being more eco friendly than using toilet paper. Water is a precious resource too.

- I have a gaint placemat on my whole desk, so my desk becomes easely cleanable. - A towle on my gamingchair prevents them from pooping on it. - I have made a little playground with a piece of newspaper underneath it next to me, so my birds can sit there while I work. - Also for cables I use empty toilet rolls to put around them so my birds can play with the cardboard in stead of the wire. - I also use cloth handkerchiefs to clean there poop of my desk. You can easely wash them and it is a little bit bigger then the makeup wipes. - My birds tend to have there favorite poop-space. If it is a good spot to make poop-safe with some newspaper, I incurage it, put some newspaper underneath it and even make it more atractive with some toys. If it is not a good spot, I make it less atractive so they can find themselves an other spot.

This won't work for big destructive birdies, but I started pitting plastic cutting boards inside my green cheek's cage so just the back edge up to her bottom perch are covered. She plays a lot more with her toys cuz they roll so much better than on newspaper😃 Also keeps her from losing her previous treats in the bottom tray. I wipe them off during the day and wash them every morning. I also put the cutting boards under my white-eyed conure's cage to protect the stand it's on. I even took 2 cutting boards & hung them by their premade holes (sandwiching the bars between) to cover part of the back of her cage where she doesn't climb but poops. Much easier to wipe those down than the bars 🙂 NOTE: i don't put the cutting boards in the bottom tray as it's metal & will rust if water gets underneath them. There's multiple thicknesses of cutting boards & found the super thin ones worked best for the hanging, while slightly thicker, yet pliable cutting boards were better for the cage floor & stand. Otherwise, the birds cheered them.

would you be able to possibly make a video on how to help start getting your bird out of their cage amd safely fly around without getting hurt? me and my grandma tried letting my budgie out to fly in her bathroom because it was the safest room for him but he was panicking and flying into windows and walls constantly and he was sitting on the bit were you hang up your shower curtains and he wouldn't get down so we would really appreciate some tips on helping him calm down and get used to it.

I have a curtain rod and cloth shower curtain on the wall behind our GCCs cage. Did this when we moved the 2nd time. First time thought about it after the wall was really bad.

I was told the ink on newspaper /ads is bad so I go to our local newspaper office and buy a “end roll” which is a HUGE roll of unprinted newspaper they don’t use. It’s 5$ and one end roll lasts me almost 6mos and that’s with two Conure cages and a large cockatoo cage/play stands etc
