How long did it take them to start eating fresh food. I've had my budgie about 2.5 months and he will only eat a seed mix. I've tried putting in fresh food early in the morning and taking out his seed mix but then he won't eat anything all day until I put his seeds back in later on

@@flamingbridges1649 mine started eating in about 2-3 weeks
@laurenturner35782 жыл бұрын
@@flamingbridges1649 for the moment I only choose vegetables that can be out for a while, like chopped carrots. It is a very slow process and our budgie started with not eating anything except seeds, so I realized we were going to have to have the vegetables available all the time for her to sample a little here or there. I know some people say not to leave chopped food out for longer than an hour because of bacterial issues, but many vegetables are able to be out for hours without growing anything. I mixed very finely chopped vegetables (typically bell pepper, broccoli or cauliflower, zucchini, carrot, radish and some type of green like spinach) with some flax seeds and hemp hearts and sprinkled some of her regular seed blend on top. I leave this out for her all day, with new food daily. I can tell by her droppings that she’s beginning to eat the greens at the very least. We have had her for three months and I began doing this the day we got her. If she gets more fond of the vegetables I will probably start making her a more complicated chopped food and only keep it out for a short while because I know she will eat during that time. But for now this is what I’m doing. I have tried leaving whole lettuce leaves clipped for her and she is not interested yet at all.

Bringing home my high red pineapple green cheek conure on friday been bonding with her/him for about a month now, bought him from a good family that owns a bird shop that actually proved to me they hand feed all their babies. This little dude was the only one out of all the brothers and/or sisters that was even interested in me when I went to take a look at them when they still had no feathers. I picked him up and and he wanted to climb all over me and stare at me and so I just knew it had to be him that I chose. The bonding process over the past month has been amazing, he's fully weaned now however on friday I will be picking him up and I can't wait. I'm super excited to train and super super excited to do recall training with him because all I wanna do is see him fly. Thanks to you and others of course I've been able to learn more and more about these birds and other bird basics so for that I thank you. The goal for me in the future is to own a blue and gold or a scarlet macaw but of course I wanted to start small and learn with other birds and work with other birds first and just learn more and more as I go. The dream that will probably never happen due to the price point would be to own a hyacinth macaw, I have gotten to meet and interact with their hyacinth up at the shop and he is just the most beautiful bird ever. Again thank you for helping us out and excited to continue watching and learning!

@mehere80383 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest a second bird as an addition to that great list. Too many people think that "they" will be the bird's companion, but that self-sufficiency is really important & having 2 of them means they can entertain each other as well & it just makes them MUCH happier if they have a friend to preen & be preened by, like they would in the wild. Parrots are very social & tactile species, they really need that! So many bird "experts" don't even mention it though, or in some cases even advise separate cages for each bird, which really isn't good for them to not have a companion! & reading the comments, my other suggestion is target train, target train, target train. Doesn't seem to matter how many times every bird person on youtube says to do this, far too many people still seem not to do it & then ask questions like how to get their bird out of their cage, which is VERY easily solved with target training. EVERY bird should be target trained as their first training & bonding exercise!

@Axsthetic Bxnny I honestly would have gone with a second cockatiel, since you already had one, rather than a different species. I don't have enough experience with cockatiels & lovebirds to know if they can share a space or not, I can't even visualise the size of both next to each other sorry, so can't really help much on this one I'm afraid

My advice would be to set up a bank account for your bird for vet bills as it can be very expensive. For a birds first wellness check it's over $500.00 in my area. The first visit can include a fecal test , base blood work ( chemistry) and or viral test and examination. Viral testing is important to check for disease that can be contagious to other birds if you have any.

He enjoys freedom of flying and company of my yellow monk. Keep up the vids

Hey to all the people reading this comment!! owning a bird is not just getting a bird, sticking it in a cage and giving it a couple for toys! NOOOO its WAY more that THAT! taking care of birds is a lot of responsibility and u NEEED to have patience and empathy towards ur bird in order to be the best possible owner for your bird!! i have had at least 20 odd birds and they come with their own difficulties! remember birds are like us, each different in personality and character (thats basically the same this right?) so we need to put ourself in our birds shoos so u can understand it! pls remember if u see a bird that seems nice PLS PLS don't just get it think about it first! u have no idea if that bird was newly put in the pet shop and is just getting used to its surroundings, it could have a COMPLETELY different character to what u thought at the pet store! bless u all! stay safe and look after those birbs!!

Don’t be confused-that’s the magic of many Green Cheeks (particularily babies); they bond quickly and easily in a new home (almost like many cockatoos). Whereas an African Grey or other species might takes weeks to get as comfortable as many Green Cheeks will be on the first afternoon in a new home. They are a cuddly and close knit species that wastes very little time becoming close to whomever is offered (bird or human) and willing. It doesn’t surprise me that they are becoming the third most popular pet bird in the United States.

Excellent advice!👍🙏 As a cockatiel momma for 10+ years I'd like to add two things: 1. If you don't have the resources to commit to your pet birds (in form of TIME DAILY, providing healthy food, spacious cage, toys etc), consider getting another type of pet. 2. Keep in mind that most parrots are flock birds so having a single bird is not in line with their natural "circumstances" so to speak. ALWAYS consider getting at least a pair, if not more. Everybody in the household would benefit, especially birds. If you don't want them to have babies, get a pair of the same sex. Perfectly the should be of the same breed but you can also mix and match different breeds BUT RESEARCH which ones work well together.

Birds don't need beds or things like that to sleep! I'm sure your birds will be just fine without, even during winter. If they look cold, just do what you would do if you were cold- turn on the heater! Maybe put a blanket around the back and on the top of their cage, to trap heat. Be careful, you don't want them to get too hot.

She still bites when she’s on my shoulder sometimes and will definitely bite if you try putting her back before she wants to go. She loves me and we are definitely bonding, she will kiss me and chitter in my ear but then if I try to move her she becomes aggressive. My Godmother raised birds so I grew up with many bigger birds some smaller parrots too. I rescued Juno from Petsmart and have had her about 3 weeks. Just a little confused with her body language? Or am I encouraging her behavior somehow? Thanks so much Your videos are awesome- got my husband building a playground out of pvc right now lol
