Farm tractor 101: Don't stand in front of the wheels when someone is cranking the engine!

My dad got ran over by a 180 Allis starting it with ether standing beside it. Starter safety switch had been bypassed and it was in gear. He had a metal rod in his leg many years These kids had me scared to death!

When you moved the tires inboard, I think you may have forgotten about the feature with those rims. Chock the wheels, loosen those bolts/nuts holding the outer rim to the hub, and slowly let out the clutch in 1st or reverse to bring the tires further inboard or out. No need to have messed with the hub bolting the thing to the axle.

To transfer propane from the supply tank to the tractor requires that the supply tank be turned upside down so the the liquid propane covers the supply tank valve. The liquid will then be forced to move into the tractor tank. The tractor tank has a small vent valve on it that allows one to move a tube inside the tank up and down. The propane level can be determined by where liquid propane is expelled from the vent. This vent must be open to transfer liquid from the supply tank to the tractor. When mowing the lot you were using propane gas from the supply tank. The tractor was stalling because the hose between the tanks was freezing,
@henkoosterhof594727 күн бұрын
Then why are there 2 valves on the tank? Mostly indicates that there is a liquid (pipe down inside the tank) and a gas (open from top inside the tank) connection.

Back in the dark ages when we used butane and propane to power our equipment, we found that our tractors would lose power over time. There is something about these gasses that causes the valve clearance to close. We would reset the clearance from time to time to maintain max power.

Hello From Central Kentucky. Normally I tend to watch tractor oriented videos and heavy equipment as well as older trucks and I happened upon your video while scrolling regarding the 1957 IH Propane tractor. It was surprising that I didn’t see any of your other video content before now. Here In this area of Kentucky we really don’t see very many LPG tractors unlike the many forklifts from the different factories & facilities that operate from LPG in this area. We had 2 LPG forklifts at the equipment repair facility where I retired from and I know that when everything is working properly they are quite efficient and when you get a hiccup, That’s Not So Good. From my experience, whenever you see the “Frosting” that is a sure sign of a significant leak, Not to mention the usual odor from the propane gas escaping. After watching your great video, I discovered another video of a JI Case tractor being filled with propane which seemed to be a slow process compared to swapping out the forklift style LPG tanks like we used on our forklifts With the forklift propane tanks, There was a rather thick rubber gasket inside the valve where you screw the fitting in for the hose that you had to make sure was not missing. If the thick rubber gasket was somewhat faulty or missing, The propane would spew out profusely and you had to be really careful not to get frostbite because of the very cold temperature of the escaping LPG gas. It is quite amazing how much cleaner that the LPG engines operate compared to the gasoline or diesel engines. The LPG usually delivers around 75% of the power that other fuels would deliver with the same engine. You can read more about this by looking up any of the dual fuel generators such as the Champion generators that you would see at TSC. Hope this little bit of information helps you out.

When filling the propane tank on the tractor, you want to transfer liquid, Turn the white tank upside down, open the bleeder on the tractor tank, open both valves and when you start getting liquid out of the bleeder, close the valves. The bleeder has a dip tube that lets you know when you have filled the tank to 80%. Propane requires 20% of the tank volume to be available for expansion when it gets hot. The white tank has an OPD (Overfill Protection Device) type valve and if you turn the tank over after opening the valve it may shut off the flow of propane. You should open the valve on the white tank slowly to avoid activating the safety device.
@merlepatterson22 күн бұрын
The old belt that was on the water pump might have been the correct size because the water pump has a variable width adjustable split pulley. (I believe you have to spin the outer pulley flange in some to tighten it) Also, the best way to transfer from propane tank to propane tank is to make sure the full tank is upside-down so the liquid propane flows to the empty tank.
