I knew we had a sharp young buck on here that could guide us with one of these. 22 year tech here. Pulled many a 250-550 cabs. But did a chain service on a '18 3.5 a while back and was down on my chest a hell of alot longer than I wanted to be. Said the cab was coming up on the next one. I figured It would be right around the same general procedure as the others. Bravo my good sir.

Another Ford dealership technician here. Yanked more than my fair share of cabs on 6.0L diesel trucks back in the day for head gaskets, EGR and oil coolers. You know? The usual 6.0 stuff. I've even yanked cabs on some 6.4 trucks.🤮 Let me tell you, cabs on F-150s are ten times easier to remove than Super Duty truck cabs. But I'm sure you knew that already. These GEN II 3.5 Eco turds with their rattling phasers sure are keeping me extremely busy these last couple of years. I think Mason covered it pretty well in the video there. The only thing I can think of to add, that's worth mentioning, is on ten speed trucks, disconnect the coolant hose on the transmission cooler behind the bellhousing. It's WAY easier to access than the stupid radiator petcock. So on F-150s from 2018 to 2019, there are eight 15mm cab mount nuts and four 18mm cab mount bolts fastening the cab to the frame, along with evap hose to canister, transmission shifter cable and bracket (two 10mm bolts), one electrical connector on the passenger side for the bumper harness and lastly the ground strap (one 8mm bolt) covers everything under the truck to be removed. As far as everything under the hood goes, the passenger side of the engine compartment is the most involved and unpleasant in my opinion. Those heater hose couplings can be a bear to uncouple sometimes, being made of plastic like they are. My biggest pet peeve is disconnecting the A/C line to the condenser. On 2018 and up models, space is extremely tight. So much so, I find myself needing to pull the grill back slightly so I can get my hand and stubby 13mm wrench in there to remove the nut. Also, once you remove the battery, there are four 13mm bolts, one plastic Christmas tree clip securing it to the washer bottle along with one very tiny Torx fastener securing the battery box which I like to remove because you will need to access the main battery positive cable plastic encasement underneath. This encasement is clipped to the body via lock tabs that are best accessed by hand simply reaching between the body and inner fender, and squeezing the tabs to separate the encasement from the body as needed, since it will remain with the engine as the cab is lifted. Lastly, when you open the battery junction box lid, only the first three 10mm nuts are necessary to remove, in order to disconnect the needed cables. Similarly, only one of the two PCM connectors need to be disconnected. If you need further instruction you can call me at (647)763-7198. Yes Mason, you can call me too. As a Canadian, I'm digging your Southern American accent "drawl".

I used to work in a Kawasaki shop at flat rate and tricks like this can really help you make time. I worked on Kawasaki Mules and their V-twin had issues with air pockets in the water pump causing severe overheat. This required replacement of the aluminum heads. The manual said to do it with the engine in the machine. I learned to remove the engine (about 30 min) and could turn an 8 hour job into about 4 hours plus the time it took to R&R the engine. I come out 3 hours ahead on every one. Thanks Mayson! I promise I’m not strapping my cab to a tree limb come-a-long!

Got one coming in next week. Been several years since I've done a set of turbos on one and this method will be way easier. You rock dude. I use this method on the Expeditions and Explorers for most heavy engine work. If you have ever replaced turbos on these trucks with the cab on you will understand why I'm looking for tips and tricks. It takes longer to remove the coolant tubes than it does to remove the cab. You by far have the most clear and concise video on this method. Thank you for this video.

Your a phenomenal educator and mechanic and young enough to still have a passion for what you do. I'm only here because I'm sure this is my trucks future because of the cam phaser rattle. Hopefully my truck doesn't suffer damage from taking the cab off from some rookie mistakes. My buddy had his raptor done and within an hour of taking it home some lights didn't work and it popped off a radiator hose dowsing everything in coolant. Im sure removing front wheels and tilting the truck still makes the job difficult. Hopefully my truck dosen't suffer unnecessary damage getting fixed

I couldn't agree more!!! That's why I rip cabs (and bodies on Expeditions and Navigators) on every one I'm into. Takes me no longer an hour to have it separated from the frame. It takes longer for the A/C machine to do it's thing of evacuating and/or recharging than it does to do all the disconnections.

Fun watching this. I was at a dealer a while ago, kind of figuring out the cab-off thing as we went. I got really fast with the F-150 platform after the 2005 models started bending connecting rods. Eventually I got it down to where I could start a short-block replacement and have it running about 10-11 hours later. This process is still like 95% the same, somehow, lol. Jeez that was almost 20 years ago now, good lord....

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I have had Ford vehicles my whole driving life (since 1994). I would never guess that I’d see Ford vehicles become such a terrible nightmare to work on. Absolutely disgraceful how many repairs have to be performed by taking off the cab! I am a “do it yourself” guy; but I will not be attempting to take the cab off anyone’s truck without a lift. No way I’m gonna use a shade tree method. I’ll just do brakes and such on older vehicles and such. Thank you, and God bless!

I've seen this done once on an older Ford Excursion. Engine replacement, if I remember correctly. It's absolutely worth the time to lift the body. Even if you're new to the procedure, and it takes you an couple hours more than it should, you'll easily make up the time having the extra room to work with the body out of your way. Smart design by Ford making this procedure a viable option for major engine repair / replacement.

OMG!!!YES, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO.U recently had to have the timing repaired on my 2011 F150. That was my recently late husband's. And Thankfully I live on the sames street with the repair shop. I seen they had the cab, and bed separated. But thankfully I had checked my fluids before taking it out to drive.the coolant was low, and went to check my oil. And as I pulled the dip stick. The entire casing or whatever term it is. But the tubing with dipstick. Came out with my pull. Went to take to shop. And heard water dripping sounds from dashboard. Found out it was because of low coolant. I was smart enough to say I wanted to go back with my truck. To watch the tech. And as he went to put water from there water hose. I stopped him by asking, aren't you supposed to add coolant?? He's reply was, nah. I can top it off with straight water. Not distilled. But a water hose. So now, unfortunately I'm having to take truck to dealership for them to investigate this while situation. Thankfully I have my car to drive

Is it possible to get those rear coolant fittings without pulling the cab?

If you tag those bolts with a stick welder a couple times, it's like having a 3000 watt induction machine. Stick a dot, knock it off, repeat. Melts that loctite right out.

Do you have a video how to remove rocker arms from 2014 3.5 eco boost f150. My stepfather asked me to look on KZbin.

Ive got an 18 removed everything in video but its yanking the front end up when I'm pulling at. Any other hidden bolts in the front end on the 18s? First time yanking an f150 cab.

@ 11:10 and on regarding cab bolt removal. Can someone explain what he is saying here? Remove the smaller bolts ( i am assuming these are what holds the cage) and NOT the larger cab bolt? Are we at that point raising the cab with the cage still bolted to it via the large cab bolt out of the frame/ from the frame? So in short, remove the little nuts and leave the big bolt, raise cab off frame?

Just had valve seals put in a 2020 F150 for an oil consumption issue. Just read service report that removed cab to replace seals. That’s why I looked up and watched video, have you ran across the issue of the 2020 5.0 using 1 quart of oil per 1k miles, hope the valve seals fix my issue.

I have not but I will say if you figured out that you’re burning 1 quart every 1K miles then you’re checking your oil way to often.

Can anyone tell me if this process is similar to the Expedition? Have a 2017 at my shop that needs an engine and cab removal seems like it will make the process a lot less of a headache.

When I looked up the hrs to do a timing job on an '18 F150 3.5, it said approx 12 hrs. I wonder if that's with or without taking the cab off? My guide doesn't tell me. It just tells me the hrs to charge. But I'm debating lifting the cab since I was told they think the turbos are causing a coolant leak. I've did a few turbo line fittings but haven't had to rebuild or replace a turbo on the 3.5 yet. I just bought this one at a great price knowing it needs a little tlc.
