You can do the lines and fittings without pulling the cab in about 3 hours. Just drop the catalytic converters and you have all the space you need to get the upper fittings on the back of the heads. If you loosen the three exhaust studs on both turbos it gives you enough clearance to slide the line out, between the turbo ajd engine block.

I actually had to look at a leak on the back of the head. I used my borescope instead of a mirror and it made it alot easier to get back behind the engine and see the actual fitting up close. I chose to use my borescope alot more than a mirror most the time.

@@jloppyhotmail I’m sorry you were duped like the rest of the owners of the eco puke motors!!! I owned a few 4 cylinder engine cars and I had friends who owned 6 cylinder pickup trucks, that being said, I decided long ago that I’d never own another vehicle with less than 8 cylinders unless that was a diesel engine vehicle!!! If you’re gonna build a motor that you plan to put a supercharger or turbocharger on, the first thing you *MUST DO* is build the bottom end to support the extra horsepower and torque you’re going to be pushing out of the motor!!! Not one engine manufacturer is building mass produced motors that have the extra engineering required to support having two turbos added to their engines!!! Planned Obsolescence!!!

I’m bringing my baby to you on Monday 2/15/2024 for multiple leaks (Vacuum pump, valve covers, spark plug tube seals and turbo coolant line leaks) It’s a 2013 F-150 4x4 3.5L with just over 200k on it. I bought this truck brand new so I know it’s history and since I’ve been methodical about fluid maintenance I’m thinking the drivetrain is good and hoping to get another 200k after your finished. I’m not having any manifold issues but I’m afraid it’s just around the corner, so I’d like those checked out too. Only mod ever done to the truck was a weep pole drilled in the intercooler @~100k. It’s got leveling struts in the front with 35’s; other than that it’s 100% stock no tunes or aftermarket add-ons. P.S. I’ve always done all my own maintenance and repairs but this job is just too much for me at my age I can’t do it in my driveway, so I’m trusting you. I like your videos so much, I’m bringing my truck from New Orleans just so “you” can work on it.

@@skullhart Unfortunately, not as good as I’d hoped. During the repair, I was told by my service advisor (also service manager) that the Ford OEM valve covers were on back order, so it was recommended to use the all-aluminum valve covers made by MitZone, as they were readily available. After the MitZone covers were installed, I picked up the truck and drove it home (3 hours from Alabama to Louisiana) These covers were immediately identified as faulty after my 3-hour drive home. When I got home and out the truck, I could smell a faint burning oil smell, I lifted the hood and could see oil spraying out of the VVT solenoid pockets in the new Valve covers. I immediately contacted Johnson Ford and spoke to my service advisor via video-call so he could see the leaks himself. He conferenced in a tech at the shop that acknowledged the MitZone covers were faulty and needed to be replaced. My service advisor advised me he’d order the Ford OEM parts and contact me once the part was in so they could replace, he advised me the truck was safe to drive until then, so I agreed to drive the truck back to Alabama for the repair, which we agreed we’d schedule early one morning so the guys could get on it and have me back on the road home by lunchtime. Now flash forward 2-3 weeks, the OEM covers hadn’t arrived yet and I was pulling my boat (5-6k pounds) and heard and felt a loud pop and noticed lots of smoke coming from the exhaust, the large wrench appeared on the dash and the truck went into limp mode. After shutting it off and finally getting the truck out of imp mode, I drove to the nearest auto repair shop and had them run the DTC’s and was told truck was showing (code P0022 Bank 2 camshaft positioning timing was retarded beyond limits for an extended period of time) I then immediately contacted Johnson Ford and found out the previous service manager I’d been communicating with was no longer with the company. I stopped using the truck at this time, A couple days later a new Service manger contacted me and after being explained the whole story he also conferenced a tech in on the call who advised he didn’t feel the truck should be driven 3-hours to make the necessary repairs, so they agreed to send a tow truck to pick my truck up from Louisiana and bring it back to Alabama. 2-days later a tow truck. Johnson Ford had the truck for another 10-days before they called and said it was ready for pickup. I picked the truck up, drove 3 hours home and everything seemed fine during the drive. It wasn’t until I pulled into my driveway that I heard the knocking noise. I brought the truck to a local Ford Dealership who confirmed, I know had a spun rod bearing on cylinder#6 and also head damaged was likely the cause of the excessive exhaust smoke. On 5/31/24, I immediately contacted the GM of Johnson Ford Ben Odom; with all the findings via email and requested a full refund of the $7,800 since the new long block alone will cost me more than that. Over a week later on 6/12/24, I received this response from Ben Odom: “After reviewing all the info. Our dealership did not do anything to hurt your truck. You have a truck with over 200k on it. We only replaced the parts that you were able to pay for. Sorry, but there’s will not be a refund. Ben Odom” I have filed a complaint with the Alabama BBB for assistance before moving forward with litigation.

I have DIYed this repair twice. I had to do it a second time because both times I was actually doing exhaust manifolds which requires turbo removal. I had to do it a second time because I used the original manifold design the first time, and they quickly failed again. Anyway, it's a PITA, but it can be done. Great advice for the first gen Ecoboost. My 2012 has been babied with only 118k on it, but it's been a rock solid engine. I do my own spark plugs because they're pretty easy with just a step ladder. Don't think I'll extend that into turbo service.

I'm a 40 year auto shop owner/mechanic i show this video to all my Ford owners so they can see what its going to cost them to keep their truck on the road . Turbos are a waste of money in the name of fuel mileage. When you add these normal cost of repairs to your overall operating costs you can deduct your fuel mileage savings. I only own Toyotas and Hondas drive them 200-300 k without all this horrible engineering.

I dropped my 2016 F150 off at the local dealer a month ago after getting hot readings. 77k miles. The tech could not figure out where the leak was coming from and couldn't replicate the leak after topping off. I took the truck home with no repairs completed. A few weeks later I smelled coolant. Truck is back in the shop. Just got the "email" report that the tech recommends replacing the "thermostat housing gaskets, crossover pipe o-rings, intake manifold gaskets, and water pump assembly" ($1,641.69) in addition to the turbo reseal ($3,763.45). This tells me they did not locate the leak and just want to throw the kitchen sink at it. I may do all of the recommended repairs anyways just to save myself from a future headache. @Flying Wrenches - Can you give me a complete list of what else I should do while the truck is in there? I really appreciate the help. Tempted to trade this in as-is and grab an F250 with the 7.3L which I'll need for a camping trip next summer. $5,500 to I assume $8k in repairs if I add to the list, or throw that at a new vehicle.

Unfortunately I have to work on Ford's almost every day as well. That being said I replace the coolant lines without pulling the cab. The easiest way to achieve that is to remove the wheel wells to reach behind the engine and release the coolant line. I use a long prybar to clip the new lines back in once I get the fittings changed. Sounds like you've got some good advice though. Thumbs up. At least having to work on these all the time we know what NOT to buy. 🤣😂.

Is it possible to update to the newer style lines that bolt in instead of using the quick connect fittings? I am a professional tech and have obviously done several of these. The problem is we have a couple of them that are coming back without months with the quick connect fittings destroyed from what appears to be electrolysis. The only thing I have found to stop this (I think) is coating the threads of the fittings with either the black liquid “form a gasket” or liquid Teflon. Yes we are using all new fittings and pipes aaaaand factory coolant as well.

Ok, I Re Subscribed to the Channel to "TRY" and get some help once in a while from FORD Experts. Here, altho different, I do have a 2022 F-150 3.5 EB. 4600 Miles, and it's at the 3rd Dealership now for an issue I've had and asked about on Many Channels here on youTube. They have Ordered a NEW 10R80 for my Issue (knocking, Noise, Shifting Issues, Clunking and banging). Question is, did my 2022 have any Updated Part's Inside of it from the Build date, 03/2022. No one can give me a 100% definitive answer. So Mayson. Would you happen to know this answer? Thank you.

Oil leaks has plagued my 2015 f150 3.5 ecoboost. I just hit 130k mile mark yesterday and last week when I had my F150 in for routine service, I was told of two new leaks-- the front pan and turbo oil supply line. OMG these engines just love to drain the wallet. Now I am seriously considering to replace the engine to more problems can be avoided as the turbo are near end of their life and cam phasers issue is becoming an issue as well. Question, who provides the best replacement engine? Ford or remanufactured engine from a companies like Fraser?

The First Generation 5.0’s that were in the 2011-2014 F150 were some of the best quality Ford ever produced, as a technician here in OR I mainly see these F150s for maintenance, the only concerns are normally, water pump leak, molded lead frame issue (which is across all 6r80 trans), and the degas bottle hose quick fitting will leak over time. All easy repairs and that truck will last you a life time. My 13 had 220k on it when I finally sold it and was a great truck 👍🏻 hope you find something that will serve you well!

I drive 99-06 Silverado’s only if that helps in anyway lol I agree with @stnrs1 that the early 5.0’s weren’t bad. I’d avoid high mileage turbo engines at all cost. They are kinda a money pit with age.
