It’s quite different in Canada. With two the main airlines being WestJet and Air Canada, and frankly the only ones with a name for themselves. WestJet has Encore and Link, the former being the larger regional and being operated by WestJet, and latter being a lot smaller and operated by Pacific Coastal. Air Canada has Express and Jazz, and I’m not certain on their CRJs, but their ERJ first generation are operated by Sky Regional with their 2nd generation E190s being operated by Air Canada itself. Which is why I bring it up, the qualification are for the most part the same since you are working for a large airliner, just in a smaller plane with lower type ratings. Whereas in the US, the airlines that have regionals are always branded as so, but are operated by the likes of PSA, Wisconsin, Mesa, Compass, Skywest, so on and so on...

Hi Garrett - Recently just subbed and wanted to let you know I like the channel! I graduate with a finance degree this May and have a full time job lined up with an insurance company. The current plan is to use the full time job to help pay for flight school either part time or to save up and then be able to quit the insurance company for full time flight school. With any luck I could lock onto a cadet program once I get my private pilot license or just continue with flight school and hopefully get hooked up with a regional airline. I've never looked into any of this so it's all still brand new to me. Be sure to keep up the great work and great videos. Very motivating. Thanks Garrett!

When you say the regionals don’t have the latest and greatest, do the at least have equipment certification for Cat III ILS approaches? I’d think that’s important to have since you oftentimes deal with IMC and low minimums. I do know most regional airports don’t have those available.
@belugaburritosupreme207
@belugaburritosupreme207 4 жыл бұрын
Most have CAT II procedures/ equipment, but that depends on fleet type and certification. As you said, a lot of that depends on the airport equipment in addition to the aircraft.

Garrett, great videos. Recently, I have been looking at changing careers. I have been a Mortgage Banker for 25 years. I make some good money. But, I have always wanted to fly airplanes. I am 56 yrs old, so making a ton of money is not a priority. However, flying would be really cool. So, at my age, is there room in the Airlines? I would not mind doing the regional airlines. Quick small flights, some overnights. 80k to 90k a year is more than enough for me to live on. My life gets covered with 4000 a month. You advise is greatly appreciated!

@blairkrutch3653

Talking from someone in ROTC you can use the GI bill to get your ratings. If you choose to go to college to be an officer. Then you can receive a pilot slot from the military. From the knowledge I have this is kinda the best route since you get everything paid for and you get a lot of hours, and a lot of majors will hire u after your pilot commitment since you’ll have plenty of hours. But you can’t go from highschool and be a pilot in the Air Force. Hope this helps man I’m in college rn hoping for a pilot slot currently working for my private.
