I can remember their fleet of Alco 636's. Good looking and strong runners too!

Great video! The best part is getting to hear the prime movers at work. So many videos go from one grade crossing to the next and horn blowing dominates the sound. Some people are air horn fans... I'm not one.

sea323 not a lot of grade crossings on these lines. Made the job far easier.

by Canadian Trackside Guide 2009: yes. In 2007 some were active. Arnaud/Wabush RS18s too, but as fmnut wrote mostly for plant switching. I encoutered QNSL SD40-2CLC on southend and Wabush RS18s on northend between Wabush Jct. and the mine (3miles). The Wabush cars were brought from Arnaud Jct. to Wabush at the rear of regular QNSL trains.

Crazy how the weather in that first scene went from blizzard to blue skies in minutes.

We dont use Alcos anymore, they had an air brakes issue and it was done for them. Some are still in the yard and some have got unmounted/scraped for metal.

@iusetano : You are right. I think 77 is Out of Service, but 43 runs pretty good. I believe WNYP has 8 QCM units.

Too bad. Wabush Mines no longer utilizes their RS-18 units. I remember seeing two units on a siding just outside the mine last year, and one unit with the engine removed. Not sure what happened to the two that were on the siding, as Wabush Mines sold the majority of their Alco fleet. I remember seeing Wabush Mines pulling their own ore with the alcos for the longest time. But that was years ago. I have never seen an alco on the mainline for about 7 years now.

It wasn't too long after this video was shot that Wabush started leasing QNSL GP units for the ore hauls. I think they kept a few RS18's for switching at the pellet plant.

Fuck I can see the the "other" one going to scrap. Since it has it's engine and one of it's traction motors removed.
