Another great video thanks 👍 Think when I did this mod on my ST I clamped the water hoses to save having to drop all of the coolant. And bear in mind you won’t necessarily see lower oil temperatures on the gauge as the ST/XR5 uses an algorithm to calculate oil temp rather than it coming from an actual sensor.

That is what how we tend to do it too but trying to keep tooling to a minimum for people doing at home in these videos.

@@OEMDeniedPerformance I think that early ST models (pre-face) can’t have RS / facelift oil cooler because of hoses. Pre-facelift ST have bit different orientation of the coolant hoses or I’m missing something?
@OEMDeniedPerformance
@OEMDeniedPerformance 2 жыл бұрын
@@Palikesxx yes the super early pre facelift (2005) have 2 straight outlets on the oil cooler rather than 1 straight and 1 90 degree. If you have a super early one you will need to change the drivers side coolant hose to complete the install. There are 2 versions of the pre face lift, UK doesnt distinguish between them but Australia does. We call the earliest on a LS, next one an LT then the facelift is a LV but there was under 1000 of the LS model sold here so its not often we seem them any more

Great video! However I wonder why you prefere the o-rings to be dry? From my experince, it is mostly good to have them lubricated to prevent leakage? At least all 5 fuel injectors were leaking when i mounted them, but with some rubber safe grease on the o-rings they did get seal perfectly :)
@OEMDeniedPerformance
@OEMDeniedPerformance 2 жыл бұрын
In short it comes down to the scenario: Because an injector also has to be inserted into a hole in the manifold & fuel rail there is a risk of it snagging and causing a small tear or rolling on itself which would cause it to leak so they should be lubricated to avoid that. (Ford advise to use some clean engine oil to do so but rubber grease will do just fine too as you have done so long as its not enough to contaminate the fuel system) In the case of the oil cooler the O ring is being squished between essentially 2 flat surfaces just like a composite gasket so it is fitted dry to ensure that the rubber takes up any space that is created by imperfections between the 2 surfaces. If its fitted wet there is a risk that the space is taken up by the lube. If that lube then runs out with heat you can end up with slow leaks via that imperfection so in some scenarios yes you want to lube seals to aid install, in some you want them to be totally dry. Another scenario where you would want to lube would be a dipstick or turbo oil drain pipe O ring where they go into the sump, there is a risk of snagging during install so its lubricated. Another scenario where you want it to be dry would be a CV boot, if there is any grease between the boot and joint mating surfaces it will leak CV grease over time. As a general rule of thumb always reference workshop manual. If it doesn't make a point of stating to lubricate a seal eg injector O rings, it is intended to be installed dry just like a gasket eg oil pan O rings.

Very interesting video👍🏾What is the benefit of fitting this to a st225?
@OEMDeniedPerformance
@OEMDeniedPerformance 3 жыл бұрын
as you modify the engine for higher performance the oil temps rise as a result. If oil gets too hot it starts to break down, loses its lubrication properties and leaving deposits. That is why the RS mk2 has the larger oil cooler than the ST225 because it runs more boost, has higher power and torque outputs in stock form. As its a straight swap, its a good upgrade. Alternatively you can fit a remote oil to air cooler in the grill. However these only work when in motion as airflow is required so good on a track/race car, not so great on a road vehicle as when stationary no cooling is occurring.

Hello, I have read that you have to use the seal with the part number 1371335 (6M5G-6L621-AA) and also the seal 1371340 (6M5G-6L621-BA). Is that right? Only gasket 1371335 is used in the video.

Use part number 6M5G-6L621-AA for the oil cooler. 6M5G-6L621-BA is a different seal (its for the sump from memory)

Looking at doing this on my st225, I've forgotten the stress of doing the coolant system now. Do I need to upgrade my oil breather kit? hoses and radiator? I'm running 322bhp and 492 NM torque and oil temps have been let's say slightly warmer after the remap
@OEMDeniedPerformance
@OEMDeniedPerformance 3 жыл бұрын
oil temps are calculated by the ECU based on coolant, temp, load and run time so you wont see a difference in gauge after doing an RS oil cooler. The coolant system is the same on the RS and you should have no issues so long as there are no pinhole leaks. Lots of people are unaware of minor leaks as they tend not to drip but need to be rectified. If in doubt pressure test the coolant system at 21psi. If drops at all theres a leak somewhere so need to locate it

@@OEMDeniedPerformance I've just upgraded the coolant system to silicone hoses in January so il check the work i did. Thanks for your input, that saves a later question after I fit the oil cooler and temps still rise 🙌

Hello sir! This is a great and very informative tutorial video! I have one major question that I need your help. I own a Ford Kuga MK1 (2009) 2.5T 4x4 Titanium model with 55.000 kilometers, and I know that these engines (B5254T3) tend to overheat during the summer, even when stock, especially when loaded with passengers and cargo. Mine does not, but I am afraid for the future. I am searching for a proven (and bulletproof) solution to increase the cooling of the engine and its peripherals to the maximum level, mostly in fear of cracking the cylinder, as you may already know. The car is bone stock. I am considering starting with the largest direct replacement unit that my car can accommodate based on its fittings. What is your suggestion? What is the biggest original (not aftermarket) oil cooler from Ford or Volvo that fits the B5254T3 engine for maximum cooling effect? I am considering adding another external (air) oil cooler via the oil filter port for extra oil cooling. What is your opinion on that? I know at this point that I must also upgrade the water radiator and the intercooler, but that is an exercise for another day. Thank you in advance for your time and effort! Have a nice day!

most people that have overheating issues its due to a small ignored coolant leak. Coolant will boil at 100c just like water does unless the system is pressurised and holding the pressure. Id be doing a coolant pressure test before doing anything else. (wont think twice about heading to the track when weather is 38c or higher)

no need to drain all the engine oil ?
@OEMDeniedPerformance
@OEMDeniedPerformance 2 жыл бұрын
No, you can leave the engine full of oil. The oil cooler is fed oil from the oil pump so the only oil that will come out is what's in the cooler itself and the internal pipework that travels through the sump.

Is there any difference between the RS and XR5 oil cooler?
@OEMDeniedPerformance
@OEMDeniedPerformance 2 жыл бұрын
yes, RS unit is thicker so has better heat exchange. The vehicle shown in video is an XR5 so if you count the ribs on the cooler there is 9, whereas RS has 13 so RS cooler is roughly 44% larger
