The Foden recovery vehicle is nothing less than what it should be; a very robust & capable vehicle for towing, lifting & winching operations. It is always interesting & satisfying to watch the Foden accomplish any task with apparent effortlessness!
@stephen757110 ай бұрын
There were a few things I didn’t like about the Foden. The turning circle of 27 metres, the tilt angle of 27 degrees, the slew of the crane, the weight of 27 ton on 3 axles and the underpowered engine. It’s such a pity as otherwise a really really good but of kit.

I had 2 of these Foden recovery trucks in a gold mine in DR Congo central Africa. We did some intersting recovery jobs with them. Would have made a good few you tube videos, but it want the thing back in 2010. The Fodaen never failed on any recovery job. Miss those trucks for sure , the mine closed but the trucks are still there

Impressive as the Foden was, can we talk about those trunks and all the beautiful oak they contain. 05:39 just screams HOUSE to me. So much timber sat there I wasted an hour at work just thinking about it. I really hope the wood goes to good use. 🤞

I imagine it will be sold to a mill and well used. There's probably a decent few hundred thousand pounds worth of quality hard wood on the back of that Foden.

That green cricket roller I believe is an Auto-Roller from the 1960's, I look after several of them and they still outlast the modern equivalents...."They don't build them like they used to" Although the original cork clutch can get a bit sticky but you have plenty of time NOT to panic on one of those things.

There's a excellent book you can get from the Foden society website about their military and special vehicle division. From ww1 steam wagons to these beasts. Quite a story how they managed to win such a big contract, mainly because they designed, cast and manufactured all major components in house. Also interesting how they designed trucks to transport the UK's nuclear warheads!
