Foiling {Without a Minc Machine or at home Laser Printer)

Here is my tutorial on how I foil.

*I keep SAYING inkjet but its supposed to be LASER **** I have put in annotations in the video as well. Sorry for the confusion.

Brilliant idea on the black copies...you said inkjet, but it has to be toner from a laser jet printer in order to work. Bring your light cardstock to Staples and ask them to print copies on it, then use your cricut to cut out your designs in cardstock!

@@mytannejung no because an inkjet printer uses ink and the laser printer uses toner and toner is what is needed for the foil to stick to.

Such a cool idea! If u just laminate the whole sheet of gold foil onto the black paper then u can just cut out the words/feathers it would make it more easier :)

I recently purchased the same sheets at Staples, they just printed a black square out for me! Great idea, 11 cents a sheet at Staples! TFS!

You can also print a sheet on your inkjet printer, then go to a store that does photocopies and copy as many as you like.

I was wondering if you could make your own toner sheets. This pretty much answers the question. In Gina K's foil mates video, she uses toner sheets to utilize the "negatives" created by the foiling process. To create two cards from one piece of foil. This makes me pretty sure now that instead of ordering the toner sheets, I can make my own, either using a copy machine or a laser printer at Kinko's or Staples. Thanks for doing this video! It helped me to see I could do my own "foil mates".

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but you're using the laminator wrong in that your foil should be coloured side up when going through, that way you don't have to pass it through as many times. The heating element is on the top of the machine, so you're actually running the paper with more resistance to the heat (if that makes sense). If you run it colour side up when feeding it through, you'll get direct heat and just have to run it through once making your projects come out faster and with less problems of adherence. :)

That has to be the smartest idea I've ever heard!! I have a few print shops around me too. I have a cricut that I might actually start back using now. I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for the m. ink machine. And you can get a laminator at so many different places. My mind is blown and my gears are turning!! Just take a piece of QUALITY, SMOOTH black cardstock to the copy store and have them make "copies" for you from their toner printer. Save your ink from having to 'print' a giant black box.

Hi - wanted to check - not sure if I missed it regarding your words- die cut. Did you cut those on your cameo machine out of the black laser (toner) paper? and what weight is the paper - is it copy weight or heavier?

I loved your video. I saw on Jennifer McGuire yyou tube site that she uses another white piece of cardstock as a shim, so it gets all the foil on it. I thought this might help you, so you won't have to put it in 3x...I am all for fast, and done well. I tried printing a design at Kinkos with their printer but the foil did not stick when I ran it through the laminator. I was told that you need special "smooth" paper to print on. Something else to buy??

This is great, I'm sure you can purchase some laserjet paper somewhere. I really wanted to get the minc, but I'd have to have a laserjet printer, which don't print graphics well (especially if it uses CMY) and is very costly for toner. So I'd rather do what you do. What type of scotch laminator is that? Thanks!

Wonderful idea, love the cheap way to get the printed laser jet. You can use the left over foil to make negatives where the gold has the cut out in it. I've seen these tutorials, does it work with the pure gold/silver leafing foil like from Mona Lisa?

No heat is needed for the Mona Lisa. It is adhesive based not toner based. Love the Mona Lisa foil!

Jim Richman step1. open word document, step2. Insert a text box step3. Drawing tools will come up click shape fill and select black step4. Open up the text box to cover the entire length and with of the page, step5. Lastly adjust the page margin in page layout by clicking margins, custom margins, and changing all margins to 0. That will give you a fully black sheet. Hope that helps

The reason she's running it through multiple times is so that it gets hot enough, not the amount of pressure. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to run anything thicker through a laminator.

This technique needs heat to make the foil stick. So probably not.
