Mrs. Heart, a voice of reason and comfort. You are so thoughtful and kind. I've recently lost both my parents within a year and had to sell our two story family home with basement and garage. It was just me and my sister, who is a hoarder, I wanted to thank you for your channel you helped me to be a better sister. The way you explain and share yourself is so greatly appreciated. I can understand and be a better person to my sister its the two of us now and we are closer than we've ever been and I give the credit to you for what you've taught me. THANK YOU and bless you and your family.

My prayers, thoughts and loving energy surround you and your family during your time of loss ❤️🙏🏼❤️ And thank you for sharing your story with us. Your story is my why, why I decided to battle my hurdles of hoarding, be vulnerable and transparent about my emotions in hoarding in hopes of healing others. Whether that’s healing their hoarding or family members who have loved ones who hoard. Thank you my friend, you just made my day so much brighter 🥹🙏🏼❤️

I'm thankful to see this is bringing the two of you into a stronger and more loving relationship. I pray that you will always be there for one another, understanding one anothers tics - good and bad. We all abound in God's Grace ... to get that same Sweet Grace from a "friend" is all the more of a blessing!

Have you ever tried something like a pantry challenge? It's where you don't go grocery shopping for a month and just use up the food you already have. It's mostly popular with the people who can and preserve their own food. But a mini pantry challenge of just a couple days or one week a month could help prevent food being forgotten until its expired.
@tgayer12 ай бұрын
I was thinking of a snack use up challenge, too!
@Xiroi872 ай бұрын
I like to do that the last of the month, so I use up everything getting close to it's expiration date before my usual big monthly grocery shopping at the beginning of the month. Sticking to the ingredients I already have often results in creating new tasty dishes.
@alyssapfluger42362 ай бұрын
I do a less extreme version, where when I notice that something is close to its best buy date I make sure to find a recipe that uses that ingredient. I like incorporating fresh fruit and veg where possible so I don't like only using pantry items, but it is helpful to intentionally meal plan for items that often get overlooked or are stocked for emergencies and should be replaced

With ADHD, I've found that putting my fruits and veggies on the inside of the door helps things not go bad and got lost and forgotten. All condiments and such go in the drawers because i will go there if needed and it won't expire as quickly. I also saw that if you add pictures of the fruits and veggies in the fridge on magnets on the outside, then you'll easily recall what you have and will use it up. You can make them with index cards and draw what the item is too.
@rg-mi5hh2 ай бұрын
We started putting the expiration date on with a sharpie marker on the front of a package or can. That way, at a glance you can see what needs to be used up. That stuff is put on our counter in little stacking baskets. If we had a larger pantry it would go there. This has really saved us time and money and overstocking.
@laurawitt44512 ай бұрын
Yes, we do this too. I also have a basket in the pantry for items we need to use soon!

Every week when I make our my grocery list, I check my pantry. This helps me meal plan by using products that are near the expiration date. I have found that because I do this I rarely throw out food. We also only open one or two snack products - if we open more - something always ends up having to be tossed - too many choices. Shelves half way back on the bottom level, would help you see more of what you have, the baskets are a great idea though.

Such a positive mindset in this chaotic chapter of history we Americans are living through right now. You given me the idea to focus on going through my own pantry, garage and house and reorganize a bit, touch the things I own to remind myself that I own them and I don’t need to panic shop because a terrible situation is happening thousands of miles away from me that I can’t control. I CAN be grateful for the things I have AND donate responsibly to those in crisis, there in the south as well as locally. Thank you for your positive energy, your video really lifted my day. I’m going to turn social media off now and go focus on what I CAN control! ❤️

Oh l remember the panic shopping when COVID first happened, it was terrible, just trying to buy things like flour, sugar, toilet paper. What was the thing with toilet paper, I will never understand. And months later when things settled, people’s pantry were over flowing and eventually had out of date food, so much waste.

One way not to over buy groceries is to use the store's website or app to have the store picker shopper pick out the items you need then you drive up outside the store to pickup the items at your car. While you are choosing items you are at home checking your refrigerator, freezer or pantry the items you already have in stock and you do not over buy items...the same for Holiday decorations.. Most stores are overstimulated with displays which in turn you are overstimulated to buy too many items.
@ahoardersheart2 ай бұрын

You could easily fix the junk food drawer with implementing a family rule of not opening more than 2 bags of chips at a time (considering the amount of them you keep). If you keep only 2 bags of chips, make the rule only have 1 bag of chips open at a time. Chips can go stale fast after the opening and usually are stale before their expiration date. And, though its unrelated, with the kids candy you could have a plastic cereal container on the counter and whatever fits in it stays. Holiday or not, not buying more until that candy is gone. The container stays on the dining room table or on the counter where there is high traffic so its not forgotten and stashed away. If you have a crockpot, use that for dump meals. You can easily throw food into it within a few minutes and let it cook for 8 hours unattended and it stays on the warm setting for 2 hours before an auto shut-off. You can easily have dinner made without being there if you're always busy and use up foods close to expiration dates this way. Anything from soups to lasagna to casseroles and more. Your options are endless. It helps a lot with a busy schedule and is quick for meal prep. Recommend making time for meal planning. You can come up with a menu of meals you want to make with what you have for the month and stick to that. You can look on the list and see your options available. Make a section for longer meals for less busy days and a section of quick meals for the busy days. All it will take whenever you open up is a few seconds and you can pick out something from the list, grab what you know you already have, and be done with it. Also, I noticed the dried fruits, granola, nuts, and seeds. Have you thought about getting a plastic cereal container, throw it all together, mix it, and just scoop out a serving? Thats instant trail mix and you wouldnt have to have a bin. A grab and go type of thing.

None of us can drink milk. I can make a big pot of soup out of the items we have. We donate to 4 food pantries regularly. Near Chicago, Tina, Al's wife

I get frustrated with the panic buying because every time without fail, I just so happen to actually need to restock some of the items people panic buy. For some reason, where I live before big storms, people buy bread, milk, and eggs. You know what I’m going to be out of at home? Bread, milk, and eggs 😂 same with the toilet paper, I was down to a single partial roll during covid panic buying and had the worst time finding more.

handy tip: mark the top of cans w the expiry dates, I sometimes mark packages as well so I can see it better. bad eyesight and saves time looking for tiny writing on each package. yup we are bad for forgetting things and sadly toss some of it. IDK we were better at keeping things current while living in my hometown bc for the Oktoberfest parade they had a food drive it was a tradition to do and donate there. so we always checked more than yrly for things to donate. also lived near places to donate. love the perfectly organized cabinet and labels :)

Do many people have food cabinets where they live? WNY has a few. They are just like the little neighborhood libraries where it's a little cupboard and a door with a window but instead of books people put shdlf stable items in there and then other people who need food can go in and take what they need.

Re: Helene & Ashville: I'm disabled and on a tight budget, so I do my weekly shopping in small bits, using sales and circulars to plan my meals. My mom did the same thing through the 70-80s raising us ... along with S&H and coupons' too! I'm showing my age! I buy my freezer and canned goods in bulk each quarter. That allows me to use everything up pretty much just in time before the next quarter. Needing some bucks, I had sold a few items I had been hanging on ... not wanting to sell them! But, the 5th Sunday threw me off' so I went ahead and gathered the money to buy my next three months earlier. Anyway ... Helene hit! I'm in Upstate SC' and we still have over 1000 trees down all over! My neighbors tree fell on my house! I moved in with my mother, and I still do not have power. Today I went over and threw away easily about $800 out of the fridge and freezer! I was in tears! I guess ill be a bit more careful not to stock up so much. Maybe go to every other month. I'm working on not only getting the house fixed, but the food stores refilled as well! Thing is, the damages were not all that bad, remarkably! I've got to get contractors on soon, but things could have been so much worse! I was trapped for two days, and finally called city didpatch. Thet sent the fire department to cut me out of my house ... literally! I could not get out' as every door and window was covered in massive limbs. But, I was safe and unharmed. And, I knew there were life saving emergencies out there. It was unnerving' though. And' once out, I could check on my Mom. Now, all that said, and a little warning about buying too much to have on hand ... honesty, this is nothing compared to Asheville' NC, a city so dear to my heart! Please continue praying for all of them! If anyone in your area wants to help; they need warm clothes, blankets, diapers, toiletries, razors, and oh so much more! Their animals need hay, feed, meds, and so on. I volunteered at the airport today filling a plane with mostly only livestock needs. They lost everything! They are a humble and kind people. Strong and resilient. But, this is beyond all comprehension! Anyway, thought I would give my insight! Always love seeing you and your love and strength! The garage is gonna look great!

Great message as always. I just have a couple of tips, food with a best before date is fine to eat ages after, (eg canned and packet food) it wont make you ill, just may eventually affect the flavour. I know you were ill in the past but that was probably a use by date, which is on fresh meat and dairy type foods. With your spring onions, did you know they keep well and even grow if you keep them in water in your windowsill? Just cut off leaves as you need them x

I hadn't considered that point. Thank you! It makes sense that giving deprives scarcity mindset! Thank you! 😁 I've been putting together care boxes for others. I'm shifting how I do things and it will stretch the dollar farther (home canning). Besides, it helps eliminate garbage in food that I don't really enjoy from the store. During COVID I never went for toilet paper. I had plenty. One bunch from a bulk store lasted a long time. I just said a prayer that I would have what I need when I need it. It worked! And it was quality paper! Like manna from heaven, take what you need and pass it on. Like 5 loaves and 2 fishes. There is enough!
