I can confirm the KFC chicken shortages were in fact a thing in the UK, I remember hearing that exact ‘I had to go to burger king’ 1000 times over that week because it was a story on the news for THAT WHOLE WEEK because the police were being stalled at KFCs as multiple fights were breaking out at car parks and stuff. I briefly worked at domino's in the early 90's.. One of my tasks there was dressing up in a 6 ft tall Noid costume and dance around on the side of the road. It really sucked. One interesting thing about working there was a poster in the breakroom that gave actual lore for the Noid.. It stated that gremlins have plagued mankind since the dawn of time and as time and technology progressed, various gremlins would specialize in messing with various things, like airplanes, cars, etc. Then one day, a "renegade gremlin" named the Noid, decided to take specialization a step further by causing mayhem for pizza delivery, and was highly successful at it, until he went up against his arch nemesis, Domino's. It was a professionally made poster that was provided to the store by Domino's, so I figure it's official Noid canon, but I've never seen a copy of it online, nor have I seen anything anywhere on the internet that states this lore.. It's weird.

Being a manager of a dominoes, the amount of customers I get daily asking for free food because we took 45 minutes to deliver it to them is sometimes unbearable. I know they don't realize just how busy a store can get, as a lot of dominoes tend to be low volume due to the plethura of stores and alternative options, but when you get a high density area, with long drives from the store to the appartment complexes, during an already busy dinner rush, there is practically zero chance of getting your food in 30 minutes or less. For example, from our store to our furthest address we deliver to, it is, without traffic and good traffic light rng, a 18 minute drive. So, for a pizza to reach you in under 30 minutes, we have to stretch, sauce, cheese, top and put it into the oven in less than 2 minutes. Our oven takes appox. 7 minutes, and then add another minute to cut, box and bag the pizza. That would mean, if the driver then checks the deliver out, gets in their car, sets the gps, and leaves in under 2 minutes, they could, in theory, make it to you in exactly 30 minutes. But that's assuming all you got was a single pizza, that there were no other orders being made, that every person between stretch and bagging was doing everything completely optimized, and that there is no traffic whatsoever between the store and the customer. That is just entirely impossible, and yet, multiple decades later, we are still dealing with extremely rude customers, drivers who feel like they have to speed in order to get a decent tip, and pizza makers who are incentivized to instead of focusing on a quality product, focus on the fastest way to make it. Like most fast food places, we have a timer, it's green for 3 minutes, yellow until 6, and red after that. So, in practice, all orders, no matter the size or quality, should take 3 minutes to meet company standard, which fosters an incredibly stressful environment that invites anger, hostility and anxiety. To add to that, we are not provided breaks, instead we are told to eat when we are able, but we can't do that on the makeline, or in front of customers, but there is no designated place to go eat, nor is there any way to stand out of the customers view without going into the management office or bathroom(at least at my store). And this isn't just dominoes, this is most kitchens in general. So at least to me, the thought of corporate being so focused on optimizing the delivery, when the experience for the workers inside hasn't improved in what is likely the history of the company, it feels less like wanting to push technology forward, and more that they simply want to make more money.

I also love how the 30 minutes or its free thing with Domino's got featured as parodies in various tv shows. Only example i can think of off the top of my head was the "Hey Pizza!" Episode from Teen Titans Go. One of the few good episodes imo. Beast Boy and Cyborg challenge themselves to stopping the pizza guy before he gets there in under 30 minutes. Only to end up destroying the restaurant and still fail.

7:00 to be honest im not expecting accidents as driverless cars tend to be far safer than cars with drivers i mean you won't see a driverless car with the AI using the rear mirror to put makeup on while driving (ive actually been a passenger in a car when someone did this) ive also been in a car when the driver a guy this time reached across and started rummaging in the glovebox for something. what i am expecting though is for people to attack the driverless car, i dont know what it is but some people are just so filled with hate when they see a car with an AI driver that they will litraly start attacking the car with whatever they can get there hands on and no this is not a joke go look it up.

Fun fact: the Noid was designed by Will Vinton. If that name sounds familiar, it should: he's one of the most famous American Claymation film-makers, who's well-known for designing the California Raisins as well as for pioneering the Claymation genre of animation. His studio was rebranded to Laika in 2005 - which is so named after the Siberian Husky launched in to space as part of the Soviet Union's space program back in 1957 - which you might remember as being the name behind Coraline, ParaNorman, and Kubo & The Two Strings. Will Vinton, sadly, died in 2018 in Portland, Oregon, but his inspiration is an enduring legend for sure.
