Happy Christmas, here are some ideas for eating your festive food.
This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.
Disclaimer; We regularly post discussions and debates from guests and colleges. The IAFGG is not responsible for all the opinions, statements or content of the material posted, especially that from guess lecturers.

This channel also acts as a forum to make openly, speculative suggestions, to find common ground with other professionals (in both related and seemingly unrelated fields), educated lay people and members of the public at large, to either support or detract on the information provided, but either way engage in the scientific process. In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.
In general, the videos posted on this web site are not advertisements, and will clearly be labelled as such if necessary. Apart from educational books, the association does not sell anything or encourage anyone to have any form of treatment. It does aim to make people think, consider all options, ask questions and become fully informed.
Much of what is discussed on this site is not available from even the registered members, however a list of members is available on the web site, orthotropics.com.
Orthotropics essential means straight or correct growth. If your faces grows well it tends to work well. The concept is based on the Tropic Premise; www.watkinsdentalsurgery.com....
The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
www.nature.com/bdj/journal/v21...
The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimise the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures.

I was taught to eat this way at home. On a daily basis my Mother, Grandmother and older Sister reminded me as well as rolemodels and through storys like to imagine having a crown on my head that could slip down if I am not sitting and walking straight. I imagined to be a princess and walking like one as a little girl was a fun game. This became a habit and is now my standart. Additionally to keep a straight posture and my mouth closed helped to improve the slight scoliosis I have had. 👸🏻 Thank you so much for your important work, Mr. Senior and Junior Dr Mew! 😊

Hi, Mr. Mew. Just wanting to share a personal experience in my journey of Mewing; in hopes that you might give me feedback on it and that my practices are perhaps of any validity. Mr. Mew, you have greatly inspired me to improve not only my tongue posture but also my overall posture-- you made it clear for us the results that good posture can bring. In my journey of trying to improve overall posture I've come along a few things that I think can be benefit to reach that goal. Here's what they are: Working out. Being at the gym I've noticed that paying attention to my posture will make the tongue become engaged in my workouts. I'll try to set my back and shoulders right, then I focus on the tongue, neck and chin. And I noticed that with some workouts I can feel my tongue pushing with some force against the roof of my mouth. Sleep. I always fail to do this, but when I sleep, I'll try to sleep in the posture suggested by Dr. Mandell from KZbin. Along therewith I consider the tongue and chin posture that you suggest. Simply being in this posture, while relaxing the muscles, I can feel my tongue pushing against the maxilla. Tough meat. Last but not least, I almost forgot to mention this one but it certainly is big in my book. I go to the butcher to buy meats of which I don't even know the name of. Eating this meat can take up to 45 minutes. Nothing else engages my tongue as does chewy red meat. The tongue seems almost a crucial part of the process. Holding the meat inbetween my teeth, then seperating it into two pieces with the help of my tongue, then perhaps into 3 or 4 pieces.. Letting it slide down my throat, then taking it from my throat back into my mouth, and again making it into a mush with help of my teeth and tongue. After I'm done eating, I will feel a pump in my tongue, lol. Mr. Mew, Thank you for what you do.

No sir, sadly enough I have made no progress so far. I've been adding one of the practices as recent as a week ago. I've tried Mewing for around 2 months and got no significant difference yet. I fear for TMJ or TMD but will want to continue with these practices cause of my nature of wanting to deal with problems later (being frank). But perhaps my results will be another guiding light to the future of mewing. If you are willing to take the risk you can try them. Certainly they won't hurt you if you do it for a short time. Would say that the Dr. Mandell sleeping position along with the chin-tuck will certainly be having the most impact given the force and volume (Granted you sleep like that for 8 hrs). Good luck on your journey bro.

I only just recently heard about any of this, and I find it quite fascinating. Many of these practices are things that I've been doing for as long as I can remember, albeit not to a rigid extreme. I've always rested my tongue against the roof of my mouth, though it doesn't press up firmly against it. I'm terrible about spills however, so while I do bring my food to my mouth, when it's soup or cereal+milk/whatever, I cheat and hold the bowl like right under my chin . . . Anyway, great stuff! To any of the people saying it looks weird, I agree. But I think it needs to be said that this is a demonstration. If he were eating in a restaurant or something, I'm sure he'd look much more natural, because he isn't making a point to show an audience proper form.

I started mewing not because I wanted to have a model's face, that's not gonna happen, but because whenever I saw myself in the mirror my chin was recessed and overall posture looked bad, I didn't like it at all. It's been around three months doing this and my posture looks so much better, it definitely improved my profile. My tongue got used to being on the roof of the mouth and feels like it's in the right place. The only thing I haven't been doing much is eating the way is shown in this video, but eventually expect to include it in my everyday life. You could never be 100% sure but I think this doctor's work is legit.

This is a challenge. Everytime I chew the food slides down and I'm somewhat forced to swallow. Pausing is a bit rough Maybe it's the amount of food that I put into my mouth?

I am a chinese. You remind me in the older days before chinese population adopted western cutlery, they were using bowls and chop sticks to eat. The bowl are brought are to the mouth and the chopsticks are used to move the food from the bowl to the mouth. Both the bowl and the chopsticks were designed for this. Western plates are much larger, heavier and hence harder to handle.

I do my chewing exercises when I am at the gym. I Bite down hard and push my Tongue hard on to the roof of my mouth when I lift weights. It actually helps me Squeeze a few more reps out and and don’t feel light headed after lifting heavy weights as I am not holding my breath as much.

Back in China when I practiced calligraphy the teacher used to book a light book on my head and we can't allow it to fall. This is to help maintain proper airflow, allowing for greater control and strength of brushstrokes.

Instead of ridiculing him or his various techniques into orthotropics, why don’t you select that one hour a day to do these exercises when you’re on your own. This way you don’t feel uncomfortable, you don’t make others feel uncomfortable (not that you should care), but it’s a win-win situation. This is brilliant information. I have been looking for something like this for the longest time. Here’s to mewing❣️🤗😬

merry christmas to all of you ! I commented this before but since doing these exercises for some months (palatte one mainly) atleast 5 people have come up to me and said I had a more squarish face. It really works. Any remarks on talking during eating ? I personally dislike it but 99% of people find it rude not to.

May I add from my experience : be aware of how hands and fingers hold things, using chopsticks or holding tea cups can be an example. Also distance height of seat and table can be a factor that makes posture unstable. In this case, muscles and joints might be active and used in an unhealthy way. Many more to mention... I think it's harder to maintain a balance and straight posture while sitting than standing, and vary depends on different body structures (like torso and legs). Btw: I don't think many can relate and understand this because it requires awareness, long period of keen observation on one's daily activities, in order to get a hang of the deep underlying. Please keep doing the good works.

Thank you for your videos!! You have helped me understand the mouth and all its muscles and functions. I have a daughter whose nice chin was disappearing (she often was congested and mouth breathing). I taught her where her tongue should be and remind her to close her mouth and also to sit up straight and chew with her mouth closed. I am seeing some changes as her chin is no longer getting smaller and her breathing has improved. I cannot afford braces so I need to make sure she has enough room for all her teeth. I also eat a diet to remineralize teeth (see Cure Tooth Decay by Ramiel Nagel) as well as my kids. I also come from a family that has good large teeth whose teeth actually fit in our mouths, but my kid’s father’s family has impacted teeth and buck teeth. Can you talk about how to fix buck teeth? My son’s front baby teeth came out as buck teeth (two front teeth protrude out). He didn’t suck his thumb, nor did I give him a pacifier? Is there anything I can do to make sure my son’s new front teeth don’t come out protruding out (ie. Buck teeth). My son is almost at the age where he’ll lose his front baby teeth.
