I just got my boot today and I’m not brave enough to walk yet but hopefully my body will just do it

I got my walking boot a little over 72 hours ago and was told to start walking as much as my ankle would tolerate. No real instructions other than that. This afternoon I watched this video of how I should be using this walking boot that I didn’t feel like it was helping me walk again at all. And then I asked my husband to hold my hand while I walked 10 steps to the kitchen… I did it! He left me alone to eat my lunch and I was able to make it from one side of my kitchen to the other without help!!!!! And then I had confidence and made it back from the kitchen to the living room by myself!!!! Thank you for sharing this!!!

Thank you! This was very helpful. Sadly, physicians don’t give proper instructions. Also, I have never been given an even-up adapter! My gait always gets wonky and messes up my hip after a week or so. These boots should always come with one.

Excellent, detailed video with NEEDED information. I was just given a tall boot today for an Achilles strain & bone spurs. basically NOTHING was said about how to walk, sit down on the toilet, stairs, fasten, where to place the pads & why. My uninjured (right) leg is already feeling the stress and I honestly haven’t done much. I may need find one of those leveler things. The doctor or tech did not mention those at all. They just said “wear a shoe worn even sole height”. This helped tremendously.

This is fantastic! My doctor did not take the time to show me this, and it will make all the difference. I am wearing a Dansko clog on the other foot, and the clog height has worked well in bringing the left foot up to the same as the boot.

Thank you so much. I had Left Ankle Fusion Surgery plus a rod inserted and screwed to my tibia and talus bones. Six weeks later I had the cast removed and was given a walking boot, but told to not put any weight on it for 4 week. I have a follow up appointment in a week and will be gradually adding weight, a third each week as I begin walking with the boot. After watching your excellent video I'm quite confident I now understand the boot, the extra pads and exactly how the boot will assist me with learning to walk again. Interestingly, I won't have to use the extender for my other shoe, my left leg is shorter than the right and I'll eventually be getting a prothetic lift added to my left footwear.

Thank you very much.Excellent advice and well presented. Wish we had the extra even-up adapter. Good tips. I live in the UK and I wish you were over here. Also wearing a travel sock helps with a fluffy stocking, that's what I found helpful for me. Wish everyone well, horrible time I know, but we will see better days. You have given me the confidence to use this. The hospital here just gives you the boot and off you go. Madness.

Thanks so much for this video! I wasn't given instruction when I got my walking boot, not even about the thingy that raises the uneven foot (I have it now and it makes a world of difference). I was walking flat-footed on the boot and it was hyperextending my knee, rolling the foot like you said to is a big help!

Great video thankyou so much as my doctor gave me no instruction at all after my ankle surgery a couple weeks ago! I researched and bought a knee scooter and borrowed a walker from a friend . i also purchased the extension for my other foot that you showed in your video . thanks again for your help!!!

thank you. i didn’t know how to walk on it before but you’re supposed to use the rounded ness of the bottom of the boot to your advantage.

thank you so much for this, i love my doctor but he gave instructions and seemed somewhat surprised when i said “i know i still need to use the crutches..” and he said oh and then said to only apply how much weight i can tolerate, i put my boot on at home and did not strap it right, watched this, fixed the straps and now it feels so much better and less pain on my ankle

Excellent video! I think I was fastening the Velcro straps in the wrong order, thank you for such a detailed explanation. Would you consider doing a future video on how to properly negotiate stairs with a walking boot?

You are AMAZING Dr. Pruner and thank you so much for sharing this important info with us! I just got my boot today and i was unsure how to correctly operate it and now i know thanks to you. I actually have the same exact one (the smaller one for the foot that you presented) and I love it. Problem though is that due to my heel spur surgery there was alot of bone that had to be removed so walking in my boot heel first is almost impossible. Yet i do look forward to being able to actually "walk" lol in my new walking boot for now using crutches along with my boot will have do. So thanks so much again for your help 👍...subbed
