I really like examples with pictures in games (especially in tile laying games or such). Because sometimes no matter how clear is the text in the rules, you still have questions and the sample of a turn is very helpful.

Many times the rules are like an oral tradition, it's really important to have clear rules to avoid misunderstandings and specially not to play the game in a wrong way (as happens more than often). Another great video.

This was GREAT. I really hope you guys keep doing these, do you have a back catalog of more of these that were not on the dice tower? The timing is absolutely perfect. I am revisiting a game and rewriting rules for a game that I have abandoned for a year. (Never made a game officially, but have several games nearing second or third draft prototypes and am just about to let other people see one of them). Regarding suggestions for a show, you mentioned components and knowing when you have too many. The game of mine that is almost done is VERY dice centric and uses a whopping 72 dice (12 D6 in six different colors). Because of this I doubt the game will ever be made even if it turns out to be super fun, but some games HAVE been made with similar dice counts (quarriors, dice masters, etc...). It seems to really depend on who the publisher is as far as what components they can source cheaply. Your input on this kind of thing would be very enlightening.

"You" is second person, not first.

You are right

Actually what this is called is like a “narrative” voice, “you roll the dice” is first person because you are still telling the player to do it, it’s an instruction. Second person would be like a text based RPG where the story and your actions are being dictated to you, like “you wake up and find yourself in a room” that isn’t an instruction, you are the character that is being spoken about. So no, this is first person rather than second person. Manuals should be first person, and written like you were instructing the player verbally like “pick up a card” “move your token” rather than “a card is picked up by you”

@@gusmcbean9474 "Pick up a card" has an implied "you", as in, "(You) pick up a card.." Second person.

A great resource for rulemaking, got some good nuggets, especially on creating a combo of aides + rules to more succinctly explain the game's mechanics. Good shout out on using thegamecrafter.com for Sanity test, very cheap considering what you get for it.

This is a classic example of why you should not get into board game dev.... 22 min guide on writing game rules sounds like fun! XD

Personally, I would rather spend a dollar or two more on a game that has more, useful documents (reference sheets, longer rulebook, FAQs and clarifications). The rage brought on by incomplete and vague rules is going to lower my rating and recommendations.
