As a mechanic myself I couldn’t agree more. Design engineers out of university couldn’t give a toss about us…….

Have one of these.. 57000kms and a P2002. Diagnosis was a dead DPF due to faulty injectors. Ford covered half the rather large bill. Now I'm thinking about putting it up for sale before it blows up the DPF again. Thankfully the dealership took it in almost immediatly and fixed it in 2 days.

My 17 Kuga pre Adblu will be my last Diesel for this very reason, Anything that falls into 6.2 emissions standards seems to be nothing but overcomplicated trouble.

The dpf will be located closer to the engine so that the dpf can warm up faster but they never thought it through about it being hard to access

Diesels are finished, as you have explained the ludicrous emission control set up is wringing the engines necks. Nothing but severe grief awaits. What a waste.

I suppose it has a broken dpf which is not cheap to replace. Why does it went bad in the first place and how to prevent this?

As a Ford mechanic from Australia, there is a TSB for P2002 on our Ford Endura' s with the exact same engine. The root cause for this issue on the Endura is internal corrosion within the fuel injectors causing premature failure of the DPF/SCR. To rectify this issue, all 4 fuel injectors and DPF/SCR assembly require replacement. Note, the DPF/SCR is not fun to replace, especially if the vehicle is a AWD. REF "TSB 20-2335" This is on Australian PTS. As this is a UK vehicle this may not be the case, but we are using the exact with same engine in Australia in our Endura's so it wouldn't surprise me if this has the same issue.

Just had a P2002 in my Danish S-max. New injectors and DPF - sounds like your TSB even though the dealership insisted there was no TSB on it.

@@larsmadsen8678Same issue on my 2021 s-max here in DK. Ford just blames the way I drive. Higher rpm and longer trips. Drive 60km daily and .. it can’t be that a car is made, so that it can’t be driven in drive without clocking up. Did a static regen my self, and filter cleans nicely.. but the error keeps re-appearing within a day or two

Rant.. Is very much justified !. We buy these cars in good faith. Not such a good deal for us, in the end. A nightmare for the likes of yourself and other independent mechanics. See you in the next one. ✔✔

Having a Euro6 renault 1.5 dci engine with 90K miles watching with interest... Though I go on the Motorway often just to make sure it has its regen

couldnt agrree more with you jimmy, there getting ridiculous with these designs, and each year you have to remove more and more to get to the egr, cooler or the dpf.. even in workshop conditions there a struggle...

Yep i would never buy a brand new diesel for this reason. Ive got all this to come as all our new fleet of vans/ cars fall into this new euro 6 category. I have a focus st tdci euro 6 with the 2.0 PSA peugeot engine fortunately its been a good relaible car that im familiar with but thats as modern as ill go with new diesels. But yeah everything thing is so over engineered and hard to get to now and is designed to break with weeks back order for parts. Not always a fun job anymore

The more time it takes a mechanic to access and the more he has to move to access parts, the more money it costs the owner for these jobs to be done because you paying for more labour time too. People need to stop buying diesels now. I just bought one a month ago for first time in my life and already regretting it. All the codes fly up and they dont know how to diagnose the faults to fix it so its a guessing game. Could be or that! Yeh then its none of those things and you on third fourth attempt with same codes. Whats happening when they design these cars now. Too complex? Lack of fully trained technicians, or bad designs from manufacture?

Mate we have a kuga stuck in the garage its stuck at 300 percent soot content. Like its locked in at that . cant reset noting. Tried absolutely every trick i know . . Dpf been removed and professionally cleaned. And new diesel injector. Pressures are now1 at 0.0 milibar idle and 3 milibar on rev at 3000 rpm . But can not reset even got a ford machine to try no luck . Have u any clue be greatful

Shame really this car would probably be fault free if it was a year older because s max and mondeo up until late 2019 had the old Peugeot 2l diesel which is a bulletproof engine. Can’t understand why they stopped using them because they’re all euro 6 compliant. And they replaced it with this absolute turd of an engine
