Do you realize you saved my life . I was about 5 minutes short of jumping off a bridge when I came across your video . I am not a Mecanic, I’m a carpenter. But I thought changing an alternator in my f150 can’t be that hard . The first problem I had was i broke off both bolts in the bypass that hold that funny little strap over the alternator . I borrowed a trunk load of tools from my friends and also purchased 10 gallons of anti sieze solution . I tried drilling out the bolts and broke a bit in one bolt and ruined the other . Now I have to buy a new coolant bypass tube. Local dealership with taxes , just shy of $1000.00 😭😭. So i decided to get a used one. This is now, 5 days since I started the job. First thing to do is remove the existing piece . I drained the radiator, Made a mess I had to clean up . Sprayed the 4 bolts for 2 days with liquid wrench and finally today I attacked the job. With much patience and perseverance, I got the bolts out and was so happy and pleased with myself until I tried to remove it . I spent half an hour jiggling it back and forth but to no avail . It kept hitting something. I sat down and felt sick to my stomach looking at what I would have to do to get that stupid thing out. So I turned to utube to see if there was a solution to my dilemma. I tried two or three till I came across yours. When I saw what you did , I could here music coming down from the sky. Ten minutes later I was sitting down with that bypass pipe on my lap. Thank you for saving my life 😊😊.

Looked all over the interwebs, and most videos and replacement pics showed the intake together with the coolant crossover tube. Thought I had a LOT of work and hours to get it all done. But then came across your video! Even without your great tip, this video still showed I only need to replace the gaskets on the crossover tube and not even deal with the intake. On a 2004 Town Car 4.6 2V I'm hoping I can pull off the alternator to access a couple small bolts on each side beneath the front of the aluminum cross over of the Ford intake to replace just the 2 crossover gaskets without having to do an entire intake manifold gasket job. The 2 crossover /lower T stat housing gaskets for this 4.6 2V Lincoln Town Car application were 5W7Z-8C387-AA and 5W7Z-8C388-AA
@artgaty8931 Жыл бұрын
..??.. application #'s or do you mean part order #'s...
@1fnjo790 Жыл бұрын
@Art Gaty Those were the part #s , but unfortunately, there are non accessible bolts that cannot be accessed without complete intake manifold removal, and the mating plastic intake beneath the aluminum crossover part was found to be compromised anyhow after removing the intake and checking, so I'm glad I got a new intake manifold from Rock auto before I took the intake manifold off.

great video. did it today, mine was only leaking from the driver side, so once i got it all loose, i realized i had enough room to remove the gasket on the driver side and replace it, fixed my leak and now i know if the passenger side ever leaks what to do. i am saving this video for future reference. do you know that ford wanted $600 for the gasket kit to do this job. that is crazy. i spent $17 at advance auto( part# 35789 ) to do this job. cause i did not know what i was doing it took me alot of time to figure it out, but i could EASILY do this again in 1.5 hours now that i know. a 1/4 ratchet with a short 8mm socket is a MUST to get to the one bolt that is hard to get to. once bolt is loose and turned part of the way out, ratchet must come off, shove phillips screwdriver in back of socket to remove all the way. all bolts are 8 mm or 10 mm. one bolt for alternator is 13mm. thats all you need. dont know about torque settings, just use a 1/4 in. ratchet and tighten it down good.

@@josemedina3469 no bolts underneath, but 2 on top and also a bolt that holds a bracket going over the alternator. if your is JUST leaking from the driver side i would not mess with passenger side gasket. remove thermostat housing, and bolts from both sides on the crossover pipe,(follow my tip for hard bolt to get too on driver side). this will give you enough room to remove driver side gasket. even though i had it all loose i have had NO PROBLEMS with the passenger side gasket leaking so far. hope this helped, let me know if you need any other advice. this was for a 2010 f150 5.4l .

@@DoesItTrack Good afternoon. I have given it a preliminary go at it. In order to see if the bolts that hold the crossover onto the intake manifold can be removed by my hands (with tools); I removed the alternator. I disconnected the thermostat cover because the hose being cleared out of the way will provide a clearer view. ... Bolts on the passenger side: One on top, three on the bottom - one which is highly improbable to be taken off without removing the intake manifold, or breaking off the plastic portion (of the intake manifold) that it goes through. ... Bolts on the driver's side: Two on top - they hold the thermostat cover onto the the thermostat housing & go through (and also hold) the thermostat housing onto the intake manifold. Four are on the bottom - like at every corner of the thermostat housing - and one of those are also highly improbable to be taken off without breaking part of the intake manifold. I believe that a certain temporary fix will be the way - until I can get a new manifold, and also make the time to do the swap. 😭😭😭

@@DoesItTrack The bolts I refer to as being on the bottom: they are facing up - they go from the intake manifold into the (aluminum) coolant crossover.

@@santrece1350 Good to know. Sounds like the underside bolts are the odd-ball. That sucks!

But the bolt comes in from underneath. So how do you get it out?

You have a different model of engine. Is yours older than 2010?

Does it work for the 4.6 ??

I have no clue. I've only owned the 5.4L. If it does work, let me know!

But how did you get the bolt out

Only the older generations had that bolt. Mine is a 2010, what year is yours?

Will this work on a 2003? It has the 5.4 but looks a little different. Ita telling me I have to take the intake off..

I honestly don't know, but if it's similar it should.

That was my question... After several vids on the 2v, I don't think it does. I think the gasket goes into a channel that is part of the plastic intake manifold. I would love to be wrong, and have this fix work.

howd you get the screw out?
@DoesItTrack3 ай бұрын
Which one? If you mean the one that comes in from the bottom that i've heard about, you have a different engine year than I have.

Had my intake gasket set ready and my Clymer manual open. Figured Id watch one more video before I started to tear this colossal piece of shit apart. Barley broke a sweat using your cheat code. I hope you win the God damned Billion dollar power ball brother.

HI, thank you for this. I have a 2003 that is leaking from the passenger side and filling the plug wells with coolant resulting in a terrible miss. After changing out coil after coil, replacing fuel pump and other stuff, we have concluded its this - of all things. Do you know if it has been confirmed the same on the 2003? Most importantly I can't seem to find the gasket for this crossover tube anywhere... Do you by chance have a link? Thank you for taking the time to share!

Mine is the next generation so I'm not really sure. I'd say call your local parts store and see if they can find it. I'd just be guessing on your 2003.
