Love the heating up and installing a cold freeze plug idea for extra insurance. Nice!

Never had one pop off even when I blew the head gaskets and pressurize the block big time! Sometimes I also place some permatex sealant on it before I push it in!

I'm an old motorcycle mechanic retired. I cannot ride bikes anymore so my new interest is to build a 289 for an old mustang or a 302 for a foxbody! I can't wait to get started!

Excellent video and pertinant information for us Ford guys. At what point do you consider a camshaft radical enough on the street to need the oil feed mods to the front of the lifter galley? I assume my stock block 351W stroker, std oil pump, passageways radiused and deburred with a .660 lift solid roller 250 ish @ .050 doesnt fall under that heading. Thankyou for all you do Ben.
@benalamedaracing276524 күн бұрын
You are safe from your specs you posted I feel the threshold is when you are approaching 8K+ with lifts upwards of .760+. Then I see the scuffing and oil starvation evident on the front lifter bores and lifters.

On the high volume oil pump, many don't realize the 5.0 uses a 1/4" oil pump driveshaft unlike the 5.8L's 5/16". I've pulled a few that looked like a barber shop pole.
@benalamedaracing2765Ай бұрын
I will be doing a full blown oiling system mods specially with what you said here running heavy oil with a HV pump and stock shaft!

I think they have shorter cylinder skirt to give clearance for stroker cranks.
@benalamedaracing276524 күн бұрын
Whatever reasons it is going backwards! Some aftermarket blocks has their clearance cuts on their otherwise shorter skirt to give as much support at BDC.

I noticed the reddish paint on the internals of the blocks. I've used Big Red or Glyptal (electrical transformer epoxy spray paint) to aid in oil drawback, and to a lesser extent to seal in the sand particles that might still be hanging around. What type of paint do you use and why?
@GrandPitoVicАй бұрын
Does the 351W suffer the same problem with the lifters oiling issues as the 302? Also is the 351W casting thing in those same places as the stock 302 block?
@benalamedaracing2765Ай бұрын
Yes they do with radical camshafts and high valve lifts! Both are similarly designed!

What are your thoughts on a block girdle on the 8.2?
@benalamedaracing276524 күн бұрын
Many pros and cons and if I would give advice, make sure it is not made in aluminum because it is a natural shock absorber and is useless for a girdle because it has so much give...

Back when the FRPP & Dart blocks came out I remember an article about a build of one of them & they talking about the cylinders being shorter & having to notch them. I always wondered why they did it but that was pretty much when I was getting out of the scene & never really paid much attention to if they ever addressed it. I don't ever remember seeing a roller cam for a ho with a 1,5 firing order I am guessing this has to be done custom?
@benalamedaracing2765Ай бұрын
There are some cam cores out there that are hydraulic roller but not HO! They are basically useless for me and I avoid them altogether.
@scottosborne8735Ай бұрын
crank twist from torque converter thrust?
@benalamedaracing2765Ай бұрын
Not really just the way the crank is loaded by the firing order sequence specially at high rpms!
