Yeah, I just wish he'd stick to engineering and running his companies. Leave politics alone. Tesla has great products but he's managed to piss off the far right who already hates EV's for some misguided belief system and the Left because of his conservative beliefs. If you get involved in politics, whatever side you pick the other 50 percent of the population will hate you and there's a lot of people that would be driving Tesla's that aren't because of this.

VW announced they will be using NACS as well when the SAE standard is completed. The spec was completed yesterday, so as far as I know that's all manufacturers with an EV presence in North America.

I wish OEMs would all standardize the location of the charge port… would be a good time to make those changes too, and save on cable lengths. I always hated when each gas car we’d buy, the fuel door was on the opposite side of the last car we had 😆

Pretty sure once they switch to NACS, they also relocate the plug

As long as it's driver side rear, or passenger side front, and not driver side front it should be fine. ID4 is fine, but Rivian and the Mach-E will need to change.

Type2 CCS is the EU standard for EV charging and that includes Tesla's. In Ireland, there are only a few Tesla Supercharger available to non Tesla owners at the moment.

I understand US EV manufacturer's and owners are frustrated with their current charging station inability to meet users expectations. I agree with that something needs to be done and adopting a common adapter solution is understandable under the current situation. Sadly more will need to be done such as avoiding a unfair market dominance and abuse, charging station maintenance etc. In Europe and Scandinavia this not a huge problem since the network is far more mature and better maintained, were CCS dominates alongside Tesla.

The main concern I have as a Tesla owner is not that Superchargers will opened up to other manufactures (I support that) but that other EVs sometimes have the charge port in a different location than Tesla and could cause those cars to effectively take up two charger locations. Therefore their impact will be 2X unless charge port locations are standardized or Tesla installs longer cables.

Version 4 supercharger resolves the cable issues.
@teardowndan5364
@teardowndan5364 9 ай бұрын
Tesla has longer cables on v4 chargers that should take care of port location issues in most cases. What it will probably do for v3 and earlier sites is replace the dispensers with longer cable versions when they get damaged and have to be replaced, maybe retrofit v4 dispensers when v3 or earlier sites need repairs and have one less dispenser to replace when they eventually upgrade the whole site to v4.

@@pickelkilla Having driven a Bolt on a little roadtrip myself, I'd say most Bolt owners probably don't drive a Bolt on road trips. At least personally, 1h "fast" charging stops are a royal pain in the ass. Only suitable for at-home and destination charging trips IMO.

If I hear this correctly, it means the cars will need a software update in order to connect. Bear in mind that most GM EVs do NOT have over-the-air updates, so the update would have to happen at a dealer. Who knows how long before that is available, and if they plan to charge for it.

Some of the Tesla superchargers already have magic dock which allows any EV with CCS to charge. I've used one months ago w/ my KIA EV-6 and got 100kW. It is my understanding that Tesla will be rolling out magic docks across the US. Just as J1772 is still around, CCS isn't going away anytime soon and I wish people would stop spreading this FUD about EV's using CCS.

Bad news GM/Chevy will no longer have any EV's you can afford. The next gen Chevy bolt will be more money and the canceling of cheaper affordable trims on the Equinox and Blazer have priced many people out of being able to afford them. I have been a Chevy fan my whole life and my next new car will not be a Chevy/GM vehicle. I kept my 23 Chevy Bolt EUV and sold my 23 Chevy Trax and will be looking in other car brands. My dream is for a single cab short bed small pickup with 4x4.

Looks like the docs from Tesla's website indicate outside of Tesla other manufacturers will not have access to V1 & V2 superchargers. But will have access to all V4 and most V3. A lot of V2s are still out there so if its V2 I doubt if you don't have a Tesla you will be able to use V2 chargers.

I think for a global standard it is good to have one global charging standard. Having sad that I'm happy we have one standard already in Europe. If all charging ports have to be changed/retrofitted that's going to be expensive. As long as automakers will do this for free or provide free adaptors that work without error, I'm fine with that. If new owners that have EVs less than 5 years old have to pay for upgrading CCS in Europe for a new charging standard that users have to pay for I think that is criminal and breaking the contract customers have invested their EVs in and worth a battle court. We are all in EVs. And this early in EV transition of a mere 10 years I think is mere business talking and not support the global society to EV transition and playing around with charging standards. If there is no stable commodity to trust and build upon in the forseeable future but also have to account seperate investment of public charging, paralell to Ev investment, I think constitutes a very very fragile business case for the future, and I'm wondering what we're truly doing and if competition is really a good thing this early in the EV transition of public charging. Not all competition is good in every sector of society.

Nice that they are doing this, but will the GM and FORD EV users use the Tesla charging stations if it costs them more to charge up their EV. Time shall Tell. I only charge my Tesla at home so I will not see if this will impact more vehicles on Tesla charging stations.

I've read that the Tesla V1 and V2 will not work. It must be V3 and above. The easiest way to tell a V2 from a V3 is the V2s have a silver band next to the handle. Also the V2s are only 150 kWh chargers and the V3s and above are 250 kWh+. This will make it easier to identify visually and by an app.

They already do that. I recently charged my Rivian at a Tesla Supercharger with the "Magic Dock" and it cost me $.50/kwh. Regular price for Tesla customers is $.40/kwh. Of course, you can pay a monthly fee of $13/month if you want the Tesla price.

I don’t think the CCS stations are that much of a waste. I’ve already seen one retrofitted with a NACS port at a nearby mall. As time goes on, they will just replace the cables with NACS cables. Eventually those stations will be phased out after their normal life cycle is over.

As long as there's adapters available, which it seems there will be, not being able to charge once CCS becomes obsolete seems unlikely to be a concern. The drivers who are screwed are Leaf drivers, as there are no adapters for Chademo.
