There were a lot of parts used in this one - check the video description for product links! On low to mid boost the car is still driving the same, but that's mostly thanks to my Haltech running closed loop O2 control and adjusting the fuel to suit. In the next video I'll do some more testing with it, mostly to make sure the wastegate is holding 12psi (or thereabouts) and then setting up a MAC valve so the boost can be controlled properly.

Given how much carnage that turbo caused when it let go on the Cummins Patrol, that's probably about 5 bullets that you dodged there Sean. Putting the explanation up too was great.

I love your show. I find it very enlightening. The best part for me is that you present things in such a way that I understand it and feel I can replicate what you have done. I am inspired to tackle jobs that in my mind seem out of my comfort zone. Because you are someone who has a natural mechanical aptitude and yet no formal qualification as a mechanic, you inspire me to have a go as I figure if you can do it then so can I. Thanks very much for the knowledge you have given me. You are one of the best mechanical based channels on KZbin.

I love your series on the Magna Ralliart. I consider myself to be competent at performing mechanical work. Since discovering your channel, I realized I was avoiding jobs due to my lack of confidence. You inspire me to take on much more than I would have in the past. I get the impression that the Ralliart isnt your Favorite vehicle. I can relate to this as I also own one. I credit you with bringing back into the spotlight a car that has been overlooked and mostly forgotten. Thanks for doing an excellent job. Love the show.

So glad you got on to the circlip mishap. I watched you do it and was horrified. Circlips have to locate into a groove, that's how they work. I'll bet you won't do that again 😄. The learning experience is so rewarding I think. ✨

Great video. While the turbo was out, you should have used locking tabs when bolting the rear housing to the turbo. Those suckers are notorious for coming loose. Over time, the heat of the turbo will anneal the bolts, then its impossible to keep them tight. It started happening to my fgx turbo sedan at around 70k. Pain in the ass actually

It's been a while for the video Sean. I'm not familiar with turbos & this was simple & easy to watch. My problem on my Holden VY LS1 Ute is that the o2 sensor wiring is playing up somewhere. Can you put the studs in after you put the manifold in place then bolt the turbo on?
@MotoringBoxTV3 ай бұрын
I couldn't, the length of the studs makes it impossible to get the turbo in there - there's just not enough space between the ends of the studs and the side of the engine bay.

@MotoringBoxTV how does it compare to the stock turbo boost wise? Does it come on earlier/later? Looking to get the same housing.
@MotoringBoxTV8 ай бұрын
Boost should come on about the same as before, but the wastegate will be more efficient at controlling boost. I have an aftermarket ECU so I can't say 100%.
@dwayneFO1 Жыл бұрын
Why is your turbo vacuum line from waste gate actuator going to your turbo front housing. There should be 2 vacuum hoses. Both going via your sensor mounted next to your battery.
@MotoringBoxTV Жыл бұрын
It's running off the wastegate alone at the moment because it was tuned that way. The next thing will be running it through a MAC valve and configuring proper boost control via the Haltech.
@farmer3242 Жыл бұрын
@@MotoringBoxTVare you running 12psi boost straight off gate, i think stock was 5-7psi on the ba wssnt it? My fgx is running 19psi of springs in external gate that is plumbed onto turbine housing. But i get 16psi of boost with gt3582r .7 comp housing and it gets full boost at 2500-2600rpm. Im also bypassing stock boost solenoid and running a tube off comp outlet to wastegate. My tuner couldnt get boost control to behave running through ecu, boost was surging really bad.

@MotoringBoxTV10 ай бұрын
They can be stubborn. I've heard of using a mallet, but I decided another way which was a bolt that was the perfect length to wedge down into the space between the front and rear housing. Took it back out and threaded a nut onto it, wedged it in there and then used 2 spanners to hold the bolt/start undoing the nut. Worked a treat! Hope that makes sense.

The vibe with these new style of videos I find is so 'de-identified', for lack of a better word. It feels as if Sean has almost 'gone away' for a while, such that the work itself takes a more focal point in the production, rather than his personality. Intuitively, it seems his intention is to return at some point in the near future, 'reinvigorated' for further, perhaps more advanced automotive exploration. Do not get me wrong, I absolutely adore the new, slick editing style, which lends a much more professional air to the videos. I must also say to Sean if he is reading this - I do not mean to suggest that this is an inappropriate process, because, as you have noted, more important and personal responsibilities have captured your attention, i.e., 'personality' in recent times - I merely am intuiting a future 'explosion' of even greater success with this channel you have so lovingly created. Or maybe this is all just psychoanalytic crap. Keep it up Sean, great work.

As a creator you often can't win. If I spend more time in front of the camera there'll be 10 people saying to shut up and stop wasting their time, or saying how much they hate my voice. So you've gotta experiment with other ideas or styles from time to time. Some of the songs I used in this one were from video games that formed part of my childhood, and again some people don't appreciate that either. The easiest thing to do is just not film anything in the first place. 🤦
@friednly-XcQ Жыл бұрын
@@MotoringBoxTV Yeah man the songs are great - I don't personally have that nostalgia, but as I mentioned, the production style is sleeker these days. However, in a sense I do miss the previous, more vocal content that you mentioned being present in the previous productions, and perhaps that was one aspect I was indirectly pointing to. Anyway, once again, I love the videos, and the trend seems upward, so keep it up.

how do you know its working properly, if you havent done the safety test..... mate, your a danger to society... i want to see you take that care out, smoke the rears OFF the car, and ensure that under max load that turbo is safe, free of oil leaks and not going to cause a fire. i do safety tests all the time in my ute... like filling out a log book every month, i turn the traction controll off, light em up on some loose gravel, flick it round 3 or 4 times. then turn the traction controll back on... have another go, and boom i know if its working, SAFETY FIRST MATE.
