Actually besides a few things to improve safety and cooling parts to prevent long idle hours from damaging the engine Crown Vic Police Interceptors are actually pretty much the same as normal Crown Vics with the exception that they beefed up to be a little faster. 129mph is their top speed. I think the civilian car is like 120mph. Personally I'd rather have the civilian version because they haven't been driven as hard and usually haven't got as many idle hours. I bought my 2011 P7B Police Interceptor with 107k miles a month ago and was too ignorant to check the idle hours which is at 6,400. It's still a good car but I honestly overpaid at $5,000. Hopefully it will last me 200k+ miles before any serious issues but buying used cop cars is a serious gamble. The biggest reason is the wiring getting damaged during disassembly of the police gear/lights. Plus the paint sucks. If you buy one don't overpay like I did and make sure it has less than 2,500 idle hours. The mileage doesn't matter as long as it's under 125k miles. Also don't buy from shady dealers who won't give any warranty. These guys buy them from Gov auctions for dirt cheap, fix whatever is wrong with them and quadruple their investment usually. They can be good cars but realize you can buy one from an auction too and you can fix whatever is wrong with the thing as long as you have it towed to your house. Good luck.
@AreaThirteenThirteen4 жыл бұрын
@@blessedjuggernaut They are good cars overall, probably why the police and taxi fleets used them for years, the taxi versions probably weren't driven too hard but more than likely have a ton of idle hours, it really boils down to whether or not the fluids were changed at the proper intervals but like you said it is a gamble especially not knowing the full history of it so maybe buying a civilian one from an individual who knows the history would be a good bet.
@blessedjuggernaut4 жыл бұрын
@@AreaThirteenThirteen I've heard of people with Crown Vics with 10k-15k idle hours and the cars still run fine. It's just scary when you see the numbers compared to like 300 idle hours. Taxis are good point too. That with the notion of them being cop cars goes to show Crown Vics where definitely built for city mileage like stopping, starting, idling etc. The reason I bought mine was because I looked at several Toyotas and Hondas under advice from KZbinr Scotty Kilmer and my own prejudices and most of them had serious engine problems like shaking motors or severe engine leaks. Probably because of neglectful owners like most Toyota Honda owners who think they're bullet proof and need no basic maintenance. My 2011 P7B doesn't leak/burn any fluid period. The motor and transmission are smooth. It was serviced every 3000 miles. It's like new everywhere. I got lucky but I paid for it. I wouldn't recommend anyone else taking the same gamble without having extensive knowledge of these cars and their actual value.
