a tip I read in my manual was a small dab of rtv gasket sealer applied where timing chain cover meets the head as you look down on the timing chain sprocket you will see a hairline crack between the block & timing chain cover, that where the rtv goes on, once applied you have 5 minutes to attach your valve cover with gasket on, it's insurance of a possible leak in that area. you may have done this, I didn't see it on your video. hope this helps, orv

Great video. I change these all the time with out touching the brake booster or the air box. It is super tight, but you can for sure do it... Definitely clean the top of the engine super good first.... 09:00 remove those two old globs of RTV where the timing cover touches the heads on the top of the engine. Those old globs of RTV can easily fall down into the engine and help to clog the oil pump pickup screen.. RTV gets old and brittle after 10-12 years.

Several notes. You do not have to remove the entire airbox. You can unclip the box lid and remove it with the intake hose. Second, those washers where the rocker cover bolts go through are technical called isolators. Lastly, on both banks the cam gear cover and head are two separate parts. You will see a slight assembly line where the two meat. Factory shop manual says to apply gasket sealant where the part meets then install the rocket cover with the gasket. If you don't, you will eventually get an oil leak at that point and get to do it again.

The front side cover around the chain requires the sealant or it will tend to leak depending on the temperament of the engine lol Basically every vehicle has a personality depending on how it was raised lol

Only if you remove the front cover, otherwise the join lines and little gap are still sealed from when the engine was first put together.

If you can't find it, I always start from the middle and then work either right or left but start in middle work all the way to left, then back to middle and work to your right! You get the idea. Kinda like putting a decal on you work from the middle out to push the air outwards and get an even seal.

You have a 2006, don't you. You can get the valve covers off without removing the brake booster or the evap box ... I use a 1/4" u-joint with 1/4" drive 8mm to get to those tough bolts. The biggest thing is 'threading' the cover past the wiring harnesses. I've found that by disconnecting the coils and injectors, you will have a much easier time of this.

Jelly Belly depends how bad it is. I was getting a small bit of white smoke from time to time from the oil burning off the exhaust manifold. It can definitely be a fire hazard if enough oil sweeps through but overall it’s not a hard job to do

@@garagedenali I ended up taking my 2000 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L in and it turned out to be a worn gasket where the plastic intake manifold meets the head. And $956 later I have a new one and gaskets. There was a class action lawsuit Ford settled on cracking manifolds. A replacement one was designed with some aluminum to prevent cracking. Mine hadn't cracked, but the new one was the only one available so I had it installed now to avoid tearing it all apart later if the old one did crack. :D

@garagedenali
@garagedenali 3 жыл бұрын
A bad gasket may be responsible for oil on spark plugs but it is not the only possibility
@silicon212
@silicon212 2 жыл бұрын
Oil on the plugs won't cause a misfire, as it is dielectric (an insulator). If you have a misfire and have what I'll call an 'oil like substance', there is a very strong possibility you have a coolant leak from your intake manifold and will need to replace it. The coolant looks like old oil when it gets down in the plug holes.

This procedure was done on a 2006 CVPI which I believe is the same for model years around this time. I think the job is harder on early CVPIs from the 90s because of engine layout.

It's more or less the same engine but between 1998 and 2011 I believe the layout under the hood was changed 2 times. You also have to factor in the shape of the body/trim as well. In the video, the valve cover was easily accessible. On the passenger side, I had to remove ignition coils and hold a hose out of the way in order to have enough clearance for the valve cover to come out

I did get mine off was a struggle for about 20 minutes 11 town car passenger side literally 1 minute to pull out after all bolts are removedand and all wires disconnected and out of the way including coils trust me it can be done! Just stop and concentrate and get a picture in your head of what will be getting in the way and I think its the top where you don't have enough room where the wiper motor is located that's what's getting in the way the most that bulge! if it was literally 1/4 of an inch less bulged it would come out in no time it takes twists in different directions and gently pulling it while lifting it up at the same time! Good luck! If I've done it anybody else can too it's not a magic trick lol. or anything like that!
