Great video. I just got a 94 4x4 given to me with a bad shift solenoid box and this was very descriptive yet simple. Thanks! I’m already pretty car savvy but I work on old shit normally so new stuff is alien to me. All seems pretty standard and simple.

Everything I’m finding online states that the accumulator valve body is for the diesel pick up of these years. Any feedback on that? I have a 1996 f150 with the 5.8L and the e40d Tranny. I’m replacing the solenoid pack next week and came across your video. I was considering replacing the accumulator valve body as well but everything seems to be for diesel pickups and not compatible with my pick up.

I went ahead and purchased the valve body recommend for my pick up in your description. I have one other question, how would you explain non pmw like the one recommended and what is the benefit or pros/cons of a pmw vs non pmw?

Will these components cause the dreaded OD light flashing?
@TheFixTech23 күн бұрын
The OD light can be caused by the shown solenoid pack, or a defective speed sensor and or psom. Does the odometer/speedometer work correctly? If not then the Psom is the issue.
@chrislongoria843922 күн бұрын
@ yes sir the speedometer works fine, transmission shifts fine until the light starts to flash. Then it will start to shift erratically.

Thanks, loved the video. Do you know if a bad shift solenoid or valve body could cause a harsh reverse engagement? My 96 Bronco with the 5.8 and E4OD really clunks when I shift from Park or Neutral to Reverse. Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
@TheFixTech6 ай бұрын
The E4OD is know to do that, and a good fluid drain and filter change using mobile 1 synthetic fluid is a good start. Make sure all check engine, abs, flashing O/D light issues are resolved. Your trans may have a shift kit installed, a good hint would be if it engages 2nd gear firmly. The solenoid pack and valve body will definitely help an old transmission.

Where did you buy that solenoid and values body
@alexanderbassett4565 Жыл бұрын
Hey if anyone can help itd be appreciated. No codes for transmission. I have an 04 v10 excursion, and recently my shifting has been weird. First doesn't have as much oomph anymore, and after that the shifting is super smooth, and feels like its slipping. My rpms will stay at say 2k, and the speed would go from 30-45ish before the rpms change at all. I changed about 5qts of fluid, and it was a bit burnt, but no flakes or material, just fluid. Also when coming to a stop, it seems like the torque converter is still engaged. How would i start figuring out where to start? Or should i just replace the vavle body/ shift solenoid and see what that does?
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
Test your torque converter, verify which stall you have. To test the torque converter stall warm up the engine, apply the brake and shift into drive. Slowly rev the engine until rpm’s stop advancing (do not spin the tires) this rpm should match the torque converter stall, if not, the torque converter is bad

My 1994 F150 E4OD has hard upshift ONLY on very warm days, after the trans warms up. The OD light was/is NOT flashing. Winter months, no problems. I changed Vehicle Speed Sensor(in the Diff) with a new Motorcraft part. and the trans fluid and filter, a few hundred miles ago, and added about a QT of Lucas Transmission Fix.. Slight improvement. Any ideas?
@TheFixTech9 ай бұрын
I would say it sounds like the shift solenoid and or valve body, best to replace both while you are in there. Has the transmission been serviced recently? Filter replaced? I like using mobile 1 as the new Ford Mercon fluid is not compatible with these transmissions.
@mikeceli9 ай бұрын
@@TheFixTech The Ford has been in the family since new and it got regular fluid and filter changes, one of which I did, a few hundred miles ago, with no change in shift quality. I used Mercon at that time. Last week I pulled the Aaccumulator valve portion of the (or adjacent to) the valve body. I Installed the Sonnax Line Pressure Modulator Valve (upgrade) Kit, the Sonnax 2-3 Accumulator Control Valve Kit and the Sonnox 1-2 Accumulator Control Valve Kit. In there I located a broken 1-2 accumulator spring, which I replace with a new one. I did not do the EPC Solenoid, or the Solenoid Body, because my OD light is not flashing. I switched over to Mercon V, because both the Ford dealer and the local transmission shop (in business for decades) recommended Mercon V. It now shift just a little firm, not harsh. I might have the local transmission shop test drive it and advise. I know some of the 1980's-90's Ford AT's did shift a bit firm. My 1988 Lincoln Mark VII LSC shifted "firm" from when I bought it at 98,000 miles, till I sold it with 288,000 miles. Thanks.

My e40d is struggling shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I hear the shift valve for those gears gets stuck in the valve body. How can I tell if the shift valve is bad? Great video!
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
If your transmission fluid is dark and in need of a flush, then it is a good opportunity to drop the pan and flush the fluid. Remove the shift solenoid and apply voltage to each solenoid shown in the video, you can test and hear a click when the solenoid receives power. If solenoid is original and has high mileage then it is a good chance it is worn.

The E4od can be a clunky transmission, and still last a long time. Check your trans fluid, it should be a deep red or pink. I use mobil 1 synthetic. Also check your transmission and motor mounts. These transmissions have an average life of 150-250k depending on maintenance history

Thanks for the video! Curious if you know of any reasons why my '95 F-150 with an E4OD might shift roughly (kind of a clunk) from 1st to 2nd. Thinking it might be the 1-2 accumulator spring?
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
Check the transmission mount first, replace if necessary. Also check your mlps sensor (outside transmission), if all is good then shift solenoid would be the culprit. It is possible that previous owner installed a shift kit which would cause harsh shifting.

What year is your truck? The 92-96 have an electronic odometer that is know as a PSOM which can defect causing issues with the electronic controlled transmission. A flashing o/d light is a sign of a failing PSOM and or speed sensor.
