Removal of broken/defective side mirror glass and replacement.

I just tried to pry out the mirror from my 2013 MKX, ended up breaking the 4 retainers holding the motor to mirror. I noticed there were tabs that should've been pried up so the motor round bracket could be detached from the back of the mirror.

Do you think these same instructions will work on an MKS..?... My mirror has the same exact problem... I never knew why it faded.. I thought I used bad window cleaner...

Yeah it should work. FORD uses the same company to make the mirrors so they should be built the same. Good luck!

Will this give me access to the thin clear plastic cover for the turn signal on the back side of the mirror (the side opposite the mirror glass)?

Hey MDbran0827, The turn signal lights on the outer shell of the mirror assembly are LED lights. Buried in the owners manual will will find that those LED’s along with the 3 red LED’s on the taillight are built-ins. This would require you to replace the entire mirror assembly if those LED’s are bad. You can find used assembly on EBay or your local junk yard may have as well. Good luck!

@@johnyoung8162 Thanks for the tip. My LEDs arent bad...I just need to get the clear plastic cover off to clean the inside...it got moisture inside which molded.

Hi there. I’m sure this is of no use now, but you can buy just the turn signals on the mirrors instead of the whole assembly. The plastic cover is sealed onto the piece with the LED lights and cannot be removed. You can find a new set of turn signals for $60 online.

With the epoxy it will never be an "easy fix" again.

That's the auto darkening mirror, they are filled with a reactive fluid. Any bit of pulling on a good mirror to remove it will break the seal and render it no good. If you don't care about the heated mirror and tinting.. a regular Ford edge is fine. Looks like what you did.

Hey Turboflush, Your right I think it would be very difficult to remove the glass intact as a whole. In my situation and the reason for replacing the mirror was the automatic dimmer. The dimmer had failed and burned out turning the mirror into opaque glass and I could not see anything. Thanks for watching!

I have 07 edge sel awd with heated mirrors and memory...i saw diagram which showed they can be removed in manner here not exactly as he did in respect to damaging the dimmer function as you indicated..

Hey TurboFlush. I have same problem as JR but was going to buy the mirror glass assembly; very pricey. Just popping the new assembly in should not damage the seal; correct? Thanks
