Seats look good, better to match front and back I'd think. Nice seeing plug leads getting made. Great video Dave.

I imported two Mk 2's off a individual from Ireland. His whole rally team come in 2 containers. Each car had Millington 2.7's. I recently had to order new wires for them..Holy H*ll I wish I could have built my own!

Nice one Dave. I always check the resistance across the leads to check they are contacting properly. You should be looking at a 100 ohm per foot.

Seats look great they look like they belong there to me I’d be happy with them mate ! i have no idea about the coil plug leads but logically thinking as long as there making a good connection to the plug you crimped on it’ll work perfectly I’d have thought ..👍

Great job. Alfa rear seats look cool and match the front. Might be a lot of work to find matching leather and re upholster the original. Capri's of the early seventies had an individual looking 2 seat squab, not unlike how the alfa seats look.

Fords used to mount the coil pack on the block on a few models when that type coil pack came out on early Ford .

Your correct striping back the coating off inner core mate it will give better contact with the coil / plug terminals. Alfa rear seats look perfect, Could make the rear quarter panels mould in to cover the sides all carpeted. Great video Dave

I like the rear seats, being as they match the front it makes it look like a set rather than having odd seats. Just my opinion.

You can get a cheap sparkrite crimper for HT leads for less than a fiver. You could probably make your own version of it quite easily. Could ensure you get good clamping on the lead because pliers seem to squeeze the connector out in the area they don't contact.

Why would you want to have HT system sitting under a couple of potentially leaky carbs when it can be safely sited on the exhaust side of the engine? This is one of the downfalls of the Lotus twin cam as installed in the Elan forced by using the original Ford distributor position when it should have been designed with a distributor driven from the camshaft in the cylinder head.

Yes keep the Alfa rear seats, they fit really nicely so it'd be a shame not to use such nice seats. You could make a trim panel for the back of the seats so you don't have to have a shaped parcel shelf.

Hi Dave, just for curiosity, what's the electrical resistance of those leads? Just to understand if and how much that could change with aging.

5.7ohm per meter according to the fella I bought the kit from

Hi Dave. The Alfa seats look great in your car. In my opinion it's a bad idea to have ignition components and fuel components in close proximity of each other (potential for fire hazard). When I make or repair HT leads I don't trim the lead back, I source some 1mm diameter copper wire from some electrical house wire ( the type they use inside the walls). I cut a piece of the copper wire about 40mm long, sharpen one end and hammer the other end a bit flat, I then bend the wire in a u shape like the size of a paper clip, then push the sharpened end into the lead and crimp the terminal around the lead and copper flattened wire. This I find provides a much better lead to terminal contact inside the crimp connection.

Nice job Dave. Quick question on the HT leads. Is the lead you have bought resistive, or are there resistors in the plug cap? Usually for modern ignition systems the HT leads have a specific resistance as does the spark plug. The resistance of the lead plus the resistance of the plug = the load that the coil pack is designed to operate with. In some cases, too low a resistance will cause coil pack damage. From memory, I think the BMW HT leads are about 5Kohm or a bit more depending on length.

Hi Bob, I've had the following reply: Ok. The ignition lead i use is a fiberglass wire wound performance core and has a 5.7 Ohm per Meter. No need for Resistor Boots its built into the ignition lead and no resistor plugs Any ignition lead that has a 5k Ohm resistor spark plug boot will have copper core lead. I use what they call an empty boot due to the lead i use has it all built in hope this helps
@bobfrankish8883

@@DavesGarageuk Hi Dave, 5.7 ohm per metre is pretty low resistance. I've not studied whether the resistance required is in the wire or the boot, but I know definitely that the lead resistance on a BMW E31 850 needs to be about 6K ohms, and I know if you measure the leads, the longer ones are higher resistance than the shorter ones, suggesting to me that the lead is resistive. Your supplier sounds like he knows what he's about so I'm sure they will be fine. Might be an idea just to check the resistance with a multimeter just to see what they measure.
