Ford Focus Active X 2019 Review & Road Test

I’ve got the 15 diesel automatic model. I’ve done about 8k miles in the past four months. It’s a bit clattery in the morning. Agricultural in fact, but soon settles down and sounds ok. The high beam gets itself a bit mixed up at times. When it needs it, it doesn’t do it, and when you don’t need it, it does it. The pattern masking system is really good though. The sound system is decent but a couple of the speakers let it down by sounding a bit rattley. The intelligent cruise control is amazing and the lane departure warning system is good. The driving experience isn’t as good as these guys make out though. The front end seems a bit light with a little bit of understeer, but all in all, it’s not too bad. 7 out of 10 for me.

This was brand new when tested, as you’d expect they lose there edge a few years old, not as responsive, handling, steering feels different etc how many miles has yours done?

I like that the estate doesn’t look like a hatch with a big extension on the back. It’s more subtle.

Did you feel or notice any difference with the 30mm extra ride height compared to a standard focus? Did you feel you were sat any higher?

A wonderful car. It really looks great in estate form, with that trim and metallic mushroom colour. I also love the practicality, which I need now a days. Which generation mondei would you say is the same size as this mk4 focus?

I had a 15 plate Mondeo before getting the Active X Estate Auto 1.5 Petrol, same length. Park next to a 5 Series BMW every day, same length.

It was more a rail for the panoramic than full blown roof rails

You mean, why can't they review the model that I want, well, how are they supposed to know that! This is a very affordable model, cheaper than the VW equivalent and certainly cheaper than BMW X2 type of level. If it costs too much then look for another review.

I'm looking at buying this exact car you reviewed, looks great so hopefully when I see it in person I'll like it as much, also as someone else commented I think it does have the adaptive lights doesn't it not just the high beam assist

This is a fantastic car the perfect combo of an SUV and an estate, we’re especially fond of this colour. It’s a strange one adaptive lights should have hb assist incases where dipping is the safer option - e.g. cars approaching on a blind hill, 90 degree corner etc - congrats and keep us posted

@@PlanetautoUK so when cars are on coming do the lights blank out the car but carry on to light the road ahead? I think Ford call it dynamic headlights aren't they? Similar to Mercedes and audi where they shape shift to get the best light on the road

Ryan Mather that’s how it seems to work, we recently drove the 330e and that’s exactly what that did unless it thought it was going to dazzle then it auto dipped, the Ford did similar

I can’t determine whether it has high beam assist, press cars sometimes have options from other markets, the uk spec certainly has adaptive lights which bend etc - best bet double check

The LED lights in this reviewed car are not the adaptive ones. They have different design. The boot size with spare wheel AND B&O is smaller than 608L. Somewhere around 570L. 608L is without B&O and with wheel repair kit.

It stayed on full beam altered the pattern, as well as opening up like a door, similar to BMW Laser lights.

@@PlanetautoUK Thanks. A lot of cars have panoramic roofs these days but not all of them open (e.g. Qashqai, Ceed Sportswagen don’t). I think the focus estate looks great... so hoping it has this feature.
