Maintenance is key. IAC valve shaft needs to be clean. If that's stiff you'll get rough idle. On the 1.8Zetec that's a pain in the @ss just to get out that bloody valve. But it DOES worth every minute you work on it. Another common issue is leaking cracked PCV hose. Tends to crack, cheap weak material. I've changed that hose for a stronger one, a special heat/oil/pressure resistant tube is perfect. (sry 'bout my bad English) Have fun with that Zetec, a great engine!
