Ford Transit MK 8 (2017) - Front Brake, removal and refitting- All tools and costs

When my transit MK 8 unexpectedly failed its MOT on rear brake pads , and with an advisory on the front pads, I almost told the garage to get on with the job. When they couldn't fit me in immediately and with the weekend looming I decided to do the job myself. I found the front pads not to be needing a change at all. But nevertheless in this video I show you the jacking points on the Transit MK8, how to remove the calipers and pads with removal and replacement of brake sensors, tools I used including 15mm Spanner, adjustable wrench, rubber mallet, flat head screwdriver, brake cleaner, red grease, and some clamps.
This is ideal if you are a home DIY mechanic, would like to know you've serviced your brakes properly and of course save yourself some money in the process.
This could have quite easily been a £600 job, which in total has cost just over £100 including a new set of caliper winding tools.
Hope you find the video useful. I will shortly be posting a video on the rear pad replacement which includes rewinding the rear pistons, and a special piston winding tool you will need for the job.

If you leave the top bolt in the caliper carrier you can rotate the caliper out of the way without the risk of it falling and damaging the flexi pipe and it make it much easier to retract the pistons. The garage definitely fishing for work. All you can do is not go back and tell them why.

Good job Toni. I changed my front pads, on 1995 honda accord. Almost identical job as yours, except mine was metal against metal. Sounding like a scream... Haha

Those front pads look like they would pass next year's MOT let alone this year's. I'm glad you did the job yourself Toni and didn't give those chancers £80 an hour for the privilege. I wish you had worn gloves to do the job though as dirty hands give me the Willie's.😁

I agree they had plenty of wear left. And yes I also had the gloves out, but had semi started and decided to carry on at that point. It’s going to take a good few weeks of scrubbing to get my hands back to my normal.

No it didn’t. But one of the rear pads was unevenly worn to the metal so I was surprised it didn’t come on.

Totally. You know what happened I got the tools out, hands got a little dirty and then I was like stuff it… next time… on the rears! Gloves on promise
